So I'm looking for some help getting started creating my own mods for the game. There are thousands of mods out there that do tens of thousands of things but sometimes I just want something that's done a certain way just for me. I think it would fun to be able to create my own mods and then maybe even share them with other people, but I don't have any idea where to begin.

If maybe I could get some advice from some of the more seasoned mod creators out there about if there are any external programs I'd need and what sort of programming languages I can expect to work with. It would be great if anyone could respond here or shoot me a PM to set up a more convenient email correspondence.

Thanks,
Blit_Wizbok

Your question is so general, that you will not get the help you want. Please specify what kind of mod you want to make, then we can help you.

For starters, I was thinking of displaying the turret and hull armor of the tank you're currently looking at near the crosshairs. And then maybe coloring them based on the chance of your current gun being able to penetrate.

Spoiler

this contour mod is the one i use, theres updated versions of each type. i personally use color max fsr, and if set up right it'll show up above the enemy tank when you hit alt.

Well, the point was to learn to create my own mods. I know very well that there are mods out there that can do what I want to do myself. But then I wouldn't be doing them myself :)

I myself would like to learn how these mods are being created. Especially ones such as XVM.

I did notice that alot of mods use flash files. is there an API out there some where. I tried searching but wasnt getting anywhere.

Your idea seems to be poorly described. If i am correct you want a mod that displays the armor value of the hull and turret of the tanking you are looking at.
IE
You're aiming at a t30, so the armor value of the hull and turret appear near your crosshair.

You then said you'd change the color. Do you mean the color of the cross hair, or the color of the hull/turret?

Well my undergrad was in game development. I have a strong coding background. Decent at art. I more or less want to be able to pull out all the stats data for my own use. I know that some sites use the dossier file, not sure how XVM is working. It would be nice if there was an api to query a playersID/name through a web service and it return every tracked stat and battle report.

I meant the color of the numbers that represent the armor amount, but that's not important. I was really more concerned with how to display the armor values.

I've made contour mods before. It's fun but quite time consuming.

I would be extraordinarily interested in a tutorial on this. I have a general knowledge of Photoshop (which is likely essential). I would love to see what this requires and try to create one that I can do myself as well. Thanks!

I would be interested in being able to create my own fire mod, that would be as obvious as possible.

There is actually a mod that already does something similar besides the changing of the colors http://forum.worldof...лы-для-wot-080/ use google translater since its russian, I know though you wanted to learn how to do it.... so I will ask if you know anything about flash and how to break down and rebuild flash associated archives? Using this knowledge and kind of reverse engineering the above mentioned mod would make learning much faster... as for the color coding, this could be handled with XVM by another means if you know anything about that as well. Let me know where you stand in these two area as it is a good place to start and I will help where I can

XVM isnt really constructed in the same manner as most other files, its basically a background app that feeds the game info from the server as you go, it can be more then that though.... there is actually a very intuitive program used to custom tailor your own XVM configurations as well, here is a very detailed post on how to use it, all the definitions of each setting and a link to the actual program http://forum.worldof...mples-requests/

I will be actually uploading my own XVM config tonight hopefully.

Here is also a really cool program to make custom tank icons\contours http://forum.worldof...ank-icon-maker/ again you will need google translator as it is russian, You can build the icons using predefined templates or make them from scratch, fairly easy to use.

the idea is not impossible.... just time consuming.

Again you would need to learn how to build with flash and de-compile to reverse engineer making a faster learning experience...

Well, I hope I have been somewhat helpful, PM me for any questions.

Please see http://forum.worldof...us#entry3384141

It slaps you in the face with "Tank Fire!"
My son did not develop the mod, so he did not publish it anywhere.
He modded the mod to his liking and easy instructions are in the post.
Although you might need to download the "damage panel" for 8.3.

EDIT: Now availlable on Curse.com.
