T28 Prot worth the grind?

The most you'll get here are the opinions of other players based on their experience, or more laughably common, bullshit from people who can't help but comment on tanks they don't even play... I've done well in tanks that other players have bitched about in the forums, and poorly in some tanks other players like. You'll have to find out for yourself mate.
One thing you could do is take note of how tough an opponent the T28 prot is when you encounter it in battle. I tend to start grinding towards the tanks that piss me off the most in battle.

M8A1/T49/M18/T25/2 all have: great speed, great fast-firing gun, shitty armor, great gun depression
T28Prot has: terrible speed, slow firing-rate, quite good armor, .....still great gun depression, actually.
It's tough because you're going to grind through 4 tanks and learn a specific play style that won't be useful in the T28Prot. If you realize this ahead-of-time, it won't be too bad. Hell, you might love it, I know enough people who do.
T30 and T110E4 regain most of the speed and lose the armor again, but keep the terrible firing rate in exchange for a great pen/damage/accuracy gun. Although the T110E4 suddenly takes it from great depression damn-near no depression. The only USA tank with worse depression is the T95.

All though there are some good comments in this thread, you might want to do a search first as you would have found a thread with almost exactly the same title as your own found here..... http://forum.worldof...d/#entry2994252
Not trying to be a jerk here, just simply pointing it out is all.
On to the subject, from the link above I think you will come to the same conclusion as myself. That is that the tank does not really come alive until you get the top gun. Now I can not comment on the tank as I do not have it yet, I do see my live in this tank a bit easier with the fact that I have also done the other line of American TD's up to the M36. Though the Slugger is not as slow as the Prot. I will be playing the Prot. the same way as the Slugger simply because, outside of the Prot. tech line where you can rely on the speed of the tanks. The Slugger side of things you have to rely on finding a good place and just sit and shoot. I would suggest to maybe help out in the learning curve, to get into the Slugger and get a feel for what you are about to deal with in the Prot. I think it has prepared me for the Prot. and I look forward to the small challenges I face soon with it.

Right now, after 9000 battles in various tanks in all tech trees, T28 proto is my favourite tank by far. Little example of how most of my battles looks like:

The T28 proto. is faster than the t95, and the open top is only an issue with arty and tanks on higher ground.
Compared to the m18 and the T25/2, the play style changes completely. Instead of driving all over the map, you focus on getting to a sniping position or support. Instead of running away from fights, you face your heavy armor towards the threat and weather the storm while firing hard hitting rounds.
