This happens when you finish a battle (from earlier, probably when you died) while the resupply window for another tank is open. When the battle results pops up, the box reverts to gold, and most people click Accept or Close after switching out what (either saves the setting) and then end up spending gold until they realise this has been changed. It also happens if you change guns equipped on the tank, even if the old gun and the new gun use the same ammo.
Being extremely careful can get you around this, but seriously - denying it's a bug and blaming user error is dumb.
You can replicate these conditions easily, and then get off your high horses.

You have no proof, and I will prove you WRONG:
1. This is my 50-2, as you can see, its set to SILVER resupply AUTO.
Spoiler
2. This is my Type 59, it is set to resupply automatically GOLDSpoiler
3. I went into a solo game just to test this out.Spoiler
4. I fired a single shot of gold ammunitionSpoiler
5. I got destroyed in battle and I exited soon after.Spoiler
6. This is my tank, still in battle.Spoiler
7. I open my type 59's resupply, WITH the gold resupply still clickedSpoiler
8. My 50-2 returns, but wait whats that? NO GOLD LOST? Shocking.Spoiler
9. screenshot of my 50-2's resupply AFTER auto resupply, no changes.Spoiler
The only way you could have spent gold is when you switch guns and dont check your payment option. Gold IS the default for gold rounds. Until there is reproducible proof, its user error.

edited my last post to provide evidence
Again, totally agree.
also, that was a lot of work,
When you switch guns, I have seen the rounds displayed in a wierd configuration.
Thats what happens, tho, when you dont check your loadout.
IF YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH CREDITS, IT WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY when auto supply is checked.

I'm sorry but I think you're wrong. As i stated earlier, I believe it happened when I couldn't afford the resupply with credits, and it paid with gold instead.

and why would I be making this up? I'm not asking anyone for money. I'm just asking for a small change.

It is YOUR job to check your loadout. NOT WoT.
You could make this argument for a billion things in games across all genres. You can say, "you don't need an after battle report telling you how much credits and experience you earned, it's your responsibility to pay attention to the details". Or you could say that "you don't need red outlines for enemies and green outlines for allies in game, it's the player's responsibility to pay closer attention to what he's shooting at". Or you could say "you don't need the minimap to tell you where you are specifically, in relation to everyone and everything else, you should be able to recognize your surroundings". I'm not saying the game is unplayable without this feature, I'm saying that it simply makes the game more user friendly, which is what all developers aim for. That's why they revamped their tech tree, and created a more in depth after battle report. Not because it was necessary, but because they thought it would make things easier to follow.
