Is the 122mm gun the best option for this tank of just stick with the 85 mm gun?

pros 122 mm gun higher penetration and damage and the expense of reload time

pros 85 mm gun slightly lower penetration, significantly lower damage with much higher relaod time

What do you guys think?

122mm all the way.

I don't ever remember any clan m8s using the 85mm.

Just be patient with the 122 and try to have platoon or company support.

when i had had it i stuck with the 85mm cause it's a good gun for a tier 6 and the 85mm gets the KV-1s into better battles while the 122mm gets the KV-1s into tier 8 and 9 battles alot

I could have sworn that this was covered already in this very section of the forums.  Maybe it disappeared or Aliens took the posts

The 122 (top not U-11) is the only one on 1S that matters. Playing anything else when you don't have to is pure insanity.

The modules on the tank have absolutely nothing to do with how the MM treats it.

Nothing to think about. 122 mm.

85 mm was good on T-28, "ok" on KV-1. It is seriously lacking on a T6 tank.

Apparently KV-1S gun is OP while KV-2 is not OP when it can simply one-shot just about anything at-tier, from front...

One time I actually derped a Tiger II from front, not sure how it happened but damage plugin(separate every shot's value) said 960.

~800 damage(can be done consistently on french tanks...etc.) is NOT OP while merely 390 average damage IS op?(it can also bounce)

The excuse kicked around is that the KV-2 has enough downsides to offset the 152. I'm not sure I agree, because the exact same carnage can be wreaked with a platoon of derp KV-2 tanks as can with a platoon of KV-1S tanks. Sure, the KV-2 is slow and big, but that can also be mitigated by smart play and positioning.

What we don't need is more tanks being nerfed in the mid-tiers while power creep continues to plague the upper tiers. Personally, I don't find anything wrong with either the KV-2 or KV-1S. I do fine playing both and I do fine going up against both.

What do you guys think?

As a tier 6, do you fear the Tiger (H)?

If so, go for the long 122mm D-2-5T, as it can punch that Tiger (H) up front and you will sooner or later think of it as a little kitten.

If not, go for the long 122mm D-2-5T anyway... just for the trolling.

No.

122mm all the way on this tank. Long reload, but aim and your damage will make even the largest of enemies cower in fear.

the 85mm will cause you to be out of cover trying to cause damage. the 1s armor isnt good enough to do that. use the final 122mm and the speed of the 1s to fire, hide and reload.

Without question, use only the 122mm
It can penetrate 175mm of armor... more than enough to penetrate the Tiger and Tiger (P) frontally, and just about anything in the sides

The KV-1S is not a frontline tank like the later Russian heavies, its hull is effectively the same as the KV-1
With relatively weak armor, you will be taking damage if you expose yourself for longer periods when using any of the other guns

Hang back at the start of battle, let your teammates get the attention of the enemy before moving out.

When making an attack, do not run next to/behind your allies, because the enemy will see you and they have most likely turned their heavy front armor towards you.
Instead, move to a separate location that can provide cover and concealment.

Chances are that the enemy is facing somewhere else as they are preoccupied with fighting your allies, exposing their sides. Take ample time to aim and hide immediately after firing. At medium-long range your round should penetrate any side armor easily, and 390 damage is often more than enough to finish the victim if he took damage previously.

O with the 122, but be very aware of that reload time...it can be excruciating.

KV2 doesn't have mobility, a practically autobounce (at tier 6-7) turret, or a fast reload. (I heard the KV1S can get 14 seconds!)
I even think it has less sloped armor.

My KV-1S has a 13.5 sec reload

Amazingly so.   Perhaps the most ridiculous gun at it's tier in the game.  Not sure how this could be overlooked even by the most inexperienced players?
