TENTATIVELY Sunday, Jan. 27 at 7 PM EST

Hi, looking to get a historical battle together and trying to gauge interest. It would be based on the historical battle of Alam el Halfa, in the North Africa campaign, in Aug-Sept. 1942. As this is rather early period for WoT, there aren't any tanks over Tier 5. I have put together a list of what I think looks balanced as well as fun, with a slight numerical advantage to Germany. Positional advantage will be British. This will be on the El Halluf map with the British defending the high ground at the southeast end of the canyon. Here's my tentative roster:

Germans v. British

8 v. 6

Germans:

1 StuG III stock
2 PzIV, one stock, one with KwK 40 L/43, otherwise stock
3 PzIII , with 5cm L/42
2 PzII fully upgraded

British:

2 M3 Lee with M3L/37 cannon
1 Matilda, upgraded turret
2 Crusader, upgraded tracks/engine/turret
1 Valentine, upgraded engine/tracks

- 50% crew, no skills
- no gold ammo
- no equipment unless it can't be removed without gold
- no consumables
- no base cap

Let me know if this looks balanced, as I'm a bit tired right now. I would also like to assign myself the Matilda spot. I do have a Mumble server available if we can't use the TeamSpeak, but it is limited to ten slots.

ROSTER:

Germans:

StuG III: Nukeknockout
PzIV L/43: Ultraaim
PzIV:
PzIII: blue_oktyabr
PzIII: Shards
PzIII: hihilow56
PzII: knightofdread
PzII: been15

British:

M3 Lee: rivit
M3 Lee: Certified_Taco_Tank
Matilda: ForbiddenEwe
Crusader: Wulfburk
Crusader: SovereignZuul
Valentine: US_Rifle_Cal_30_M1

The actual battle was a 6:4 numbers advantage for the Germans, at least in divisional strength. I can adjust the numbers if it seems unbalanced.

i thought rommel was basically dried up and destroyed by the time the americans jumped into the fight. They had just fought a withdrawal all the way across North africa with numbers and equipment dropping and falling apart the whole way. I forget exactly but didnt they just loose at the marerth line and were basically like "were done. lets get the hell outta here''.Then the Amis  hit their western flank. The only thing they had going for them was a few new tigers which were  huge new game changers. and the fact that the africakorps  was a unit with tones of experience and that this was the first time americans got to attack the germans in a real battle.

The Americans didn't take part in this battle, the M3 Grants and Lees were Lend-Lease. But yeah, Rommel was basically on the run by late 1942.

So are you two interested in participating? Just to clear it up, the numerical difference is offset by the fact that the Germans will be attacking uphill against dug in tanks, as in the real battle. The power of the teams was adjusted pretty well to compensate for that.

sounds fun. i like the idea of real battles more than a bunch of vehicles that never saw each other in a shoot out

I can be Stug, PzIV, Matilda, and possibly Crusader depending on how much I can put up with the A13 over the weekend.

Updated the roster. Brit team is looking a bit sparse so far  :Smile_mellow:

major_smartass, looking forward to your participation, hope the grind to Tier III-V treats you well.

To be determined. Definitely after the holidays, but I'm waiting to get more tentative participants. I know some people won't be able to make it once the date and time is settled so I want to have as many as we can before I commit to a time.
