To be completely honest I hate the idea of sheriffs. People go all out just to get the rewards and completely disregard their team. And people who platoon with sheriffs use them to lure players and kill them while they are attacking the sheriff.

One of the reasons why I like the idea of defending the sheriff instead of going on a witch hunt for him. It promotes teamwork and cooperation

The problem is that it seems--at least from feedback--that this completely changes the reason a person plays a battle. This is not good.

To give an example that I mentioned in my AMA, we came up with the idea of a Lumberjack epic achivement--rewarded for knocking down trees. At the time knocking down a tree was of no benefit, so the idea was shot down because it would encourage play that is against the spirit of the game.

We might have to review this event for that reason as well. We'll keep a close eye on data from the January event.

Well, I've been playing video games a long long time and when the concept of MMO was first raised one of the first things alot of designers discussed was the "what if" factor....What if we do XYZ, what will happen?  The general conclusion was that people will ALWAYS do something completely stupid in a punishment-free environment.

Now, with the sherrif events team killing if the sherrif is on your side is punished, ergo I've not seen anybody do it.  I know that is HAS but its a good discouraging factor.

i think what I'm getting at is that the gripes and complaints voiced here are what we like to call the "vocal minority".  You hear about how bad the events are and how they ruin the game and blah blah blah, but the truth is there are a relatively small percentage of people acting the fool when the complaints are formed.  You have just as much a chance of entering a match with some idiot that wants to drown himself, or roadblock his team, or team kill or act like a jackass in chat as you do someone dropping everything and trying to score an in-game reward.

I want to see mroe events, events are fricken FUN!  Anybody remember the "blood plague" in World of Warcraft?  Holy hell, it was hilarious!  There were panic in teh streets, bodies everywhere, some jerks were running around spreading it, some were working ot heal those affected, some stayed away from hot zones while others just didnt play for a while.

Events are interesting social experiments, dont just stop doing them because you're afraid of humans acting like retarded monkeys....we ARE retarded monkeys.

But why do they do this? Often its because they don't want the other team to get the rewards. After that battle they'll probably just go into pubbie mode again. If only all battles had good teamwork and cooperation...

GD, please ignore the voices of the few people who whine about Sheriff events and listen to the voices of the silent majority who enjoy them.  I ran sheriff accounts the last couple times they have been active and I had an absolute blast.  95% of the feedback from the players in game was positive.  The opportunity to get gold for people who otherwise wouldn't have it is awesome.  Run the numbers.  How many battles did the sheriffs run during the last 3 events?  How many total battles were played by the general player base?  Does it really matter that a few games were played differently?  Please ignore the forum trolls.

I personally like having the Sheriff on my side (at least in lower tiers). Usually enough of the enemy will go as you say, full retard, in order to try and kill the sheriff, and get killed themselves. Leaving their own team at a neumerical dissadvantage. Works for me.

And this is why it was said it is being abused by clans. They would all plattoon with sheriffs, and scoop up free wins, and kills against the retards trying to shoot sheriif, while ignoring them.

You misunderstand. Im in favor of a different kind of sheriff event where the team with the sheriff on its side is rewarded for protecting him instead of the usual "Lets all run off a cliff and chase him into the lake" mentality of the current parameters.

Thank you for specifying, I did indeed misunderstand you the first time. This would be more interesting than just "durrr free gold if I kill this guy".

Just for grins and ha ha's I'd love to see a giagantic, raid type tank EVERYBODY had to shoot to kill.  Think about it, an M3 the size of a school gym that could crush you, forcing you to team up with the other side to survive.  A real "encounter" battle   :Smile_glasses:

2500 games, only 4 with Sheriffs. I think it's a fun change of pace, and rare/pleasant enough that even if it changes gameplay, it's good.

Change of pace can start looking awfully good on your 100th El Halluf battle of the week...

:)

They sort of did that with the White Tiger boss event on the RU server, and promised we might get something along those lines too.

1) the bad players who rush in are going to do something equally as useless anyway, what does it matter if it's a straight suicide run or not?

2) sheriffs who platoon...so what?

3) you're bad.

Nice!   :Smile_great:
I like variety, its what keeps me coming back to this game.  *cough* rockets, lasers, custom tank mods (ie for speed, armor, firepower, ect)*cough*
Rocket artillery would be nice too.
Historically accurate will always have its place but theres something to be said for free-form customizations too.

The 500 Gold mostly likely that people have won in the past were used for Free XP conversion anyway.

I used mine on garage slots and barracks when they was on sale.

These accounts are essentially representing Wargaming during the event, so we take the behavior very seriously.

If you find out you have more info on this incident, feel free to send me a PM.

The only time I have ever seen a sheriff say anything was to issue a warning to a player on our team that started spamming the map clicks as soon as the game started and by spamming I mean the guy clicked the map about 20 times in a row. The Sheriff said something along the lines of "Are you really going to spam knowing I am on your team?" or something to that effect and the spammer stopped after that.

Other than that I can't recall the a sheriff ever saying a word.

What do you guys think of us getting rid of the chat announcement? Good idea? Bad idea? Burn it in the fire place before anyone can see it?

Sadly i think you need it cause it list the rules. I think with out it you would see someone on their own team shoot the sheriff and then proclaim they didn't know it was against the rules. I would be willing to bet large sums of cash it would happen.

To a point I agree it does change it. Typically from my own personal experience is, if someone see's a sheriff and another tank they shoot the sheriff. Occasionally you see someone go crazy and drive into enemy fire and die trying to kill the sheriff but since I see that in games anyways that is not a big issue either.

The biggest problem I have seen if when a sheriff gets spotted to often a few players will move from the other flank to the one with the sheriff, which leaves the old flank weak.

Me personally if I see a sheriff and I can get a shot on him I take it, otherwise i don't worry about it.

Don't worry, I'm not looking to get rid of the sheriff events. Part of our philosophy is to design events like this. We have to make money as a business, but we're also going to stick to our guns that the game is free to play, and that means giving away gold as a reward for events. 500 gold as it was before this particular sheriff event is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Like I mentioned in a recent thread about removing the countdown--not everyone can afford to upgrade their computer at the drop of a hat, and not everyone can afford to pull out their wallet every time a purchase in-game is involved. We realize that, and we respect it.

At the end of the day, even if you can't spend the most money on your block, you're still contributing to the game. This is a player versus player game after all, so everyone counts. Without the player base as a whole, there are a lot less tanks driving around, which results in potentially longer queues and a weaker experience once you're in a battle.

So we're going to continue designing these kinds of events, because it gives someone an opportunity to pick up a garage slot, or some free experience, or to retrain a crew. You might even be able to pick up some premium time, purchase some camouflage or top off the gold needed to buy a premium vehicle. We're fine with that.
