It's the only thing that requires a player to be alive, and to be helping the team by hurting enemies. Obviously the more damage you do, the better you are at getting positioning and placing good shots on target.

Why punish people who play scouts, people grinding through tech lines instead of unlocking them with $ xp etc.?

Yeah, I've seen a lot of scout players or tier <6 players who are far better than the guy wandering around in his t8 premium, but that guy has more damage done due to the gun.  Not a reliable metric.  Possibly damage done/average tier?

WR is the best measure of skill.

The more damage you do (or damage upon spotting for scouts), the more you are helping your team to win.

Normalized (for premium vs standard) XP is the best metric for skill, as it accounts for wins, damage, spots, spotting damage, cap, defense, and proximity to battle.

HOWEVER, WG has not seen fit to make this available.

In the case of scouting, obviously you substitute damage done for damage scouted.

Lower tier is irrelevant as any "good" low tiers are just people in elited tanks rocking camo and equipment with skilled crew against pubbies that probably have 50% crew.

I've seen enough people camp base until they are the last tank alive and then do 2k damage before they're killed for the loss to disagree with damage being a good lone indicator of skill.

win % really is the best measure.  The more you affect your team positively the more you'll win.

XP doesn't paint a clear picture either. I can get 500 - 900 XP a game in a loss, and I can get 300 XP in a win. There are way too many factors that weigh in for skill that one metric isn't enough, but if I had to pick one, it has to be WR. This game is about team work and winning... nothing else and WR reflects that.

1.5x tier HP pool is good for tanks and TD's.  Scouts and SPG's are a beast of a different matter....

IE:  Tanks:   TIer 5 (rough ave HP for tier 5: 500), 750 dmg/game is a good start.

I believe the metric should only count for the last 1k battles in a rolling avg. This would help to differentiate our present eff rating from the full historical when we all pretty much sucked as we began the game. Once someone starts to understand tactics and teamwork involved it gets much better. My last 1k battles dont even compare to how horribad i was in the beginning. All due to too much face hugging and taking too many chances.

Hit Ratio and Win Ratio are good indicators combined to give a somewhat accurate picture of what a tanker is capable of.

win rate is an absolutely awful metric. It is not my fault that my team all dies in 3 minutes and I am unable to do anything to make up for the loss of 5 tanks and an entire side nor could anyone short of unicorns or something ridiculous.

damage ratio is a good way to account for differences in tiers.

Yes, but over 100, 1000, and 10,000 battles if you are a decent player you should be able to win 4-8% more of the time than the Average Pubbie, no?  (all pub matches, no TC or CW or Unicorn Troll platoons)

The more damage you cause, the more you help your team. If you aren't causing damage, then the enemy has more ability to kill your team.

Cause more damage, get more kills, and less of your teammates will die. WR is the best metric for skill, because it shows how much you influence your team to victory.

I can pad damage done very easily.  You know how?   Use my GWE.  All I need are two good hits per game and I can increase my current 1k average per game greatly.  And it's very likely I'll get more than 2 good hits a game......

Damage done not necessary leads to winning. I played T-62A game yesterday with 6500ish damage done and 5 kills, we still lost 7-13...

My Pz IV sits at almost twice its HP in damage done. Obviously, I'm an incredibly skilled player in it, right? Or, I'm spamming HEAT and clubbing baby seals.

There is no single be-all-end-all stat for 'skill', but all stats together paint a picture.
