I can't help but notice how many light tank drivers (Including myself...) fall victim to an Attentive arty player in close quarters. So here are A few tips I have learned after many games in my T-50.

Your Mission

As a Light tank Driver, you are often expected to do one of two things, scout out enemy positions or destroy enemy artillery.

Your Objective

Now when you're after enemy arty, there is a step by step set of guidelines I follow. They are as Follows:
  • Pick a path - Know how you're getting there and know where all the cover between you and your destination is, you may need it.
  • Check your path - Know who's between you and your objective, be it team mates or enemies.
  • Get going - Get moving, that enemy arty is already beating on your team mates.
  • Control yourself - This is important while driving, panicking while driving a fast, extremely light tank that can drift can and will lead to errors in driving which more often than not get you destroyed long before you even spot the enemy arty. This includes but is not limited to: Turning too fast in a T-50 or other tank that can drift easily and sliding to a halt with an enemy aiming at you. I speak from experience.
  • Know where your target might be - There is little more important to seeking and destroying arty than knowing where they MIGHT be. Remeber you are an EASY oneshot and if Arty sees you coming you may already be dead. Know where your enemy might be and be ready for him. Use cover if it is available.
  • (Optional but Reccomended) Don't get Spotted on your way to Destroy your Target - This is important; if the enemy team never sees you coming, they never have time to warn their artillery who in turn doesn't know to prepare for you, leaving them helpless when that arty is in orbital-death-cannon-mode and doesn't see you on the minimap until it's too late.
  • (If you're spotted) Spotted - You made it past the enemies that were between you and your target unscathed, but you know they saw you, which means the enemy arty more than likely knows you're coming. You need to know how to put up with this arty.
  • (If you're Spotted) The enemy Arty is Ready for you - You see them, and they see you. There are two things that happen now, a fake out or Counter Battery. Know which way the enemy arty's gun is facing, watch him, do not let him peek out and shoot you. Wait him out so your artillery can take him out. However, there is a much more dangerous approach if your arty happens to be dead already, you can fake out the enemy arty into firing a shell so you have a window to attack, but this requires you to peek out and get him to shoot; whereas, if the shell does land near you, you may simply die from the explosion, or worse, the arty doesn't miss. However if and when he does miss, take advantage of it.
  • WATCH FOR INCOMING HELP - Your target is afraid, know it. He has called for help knowing you're there and it may be on the way. Once you eliminate your target, repeat steps 1 + 3.

The Finish

Success - the enemy Artillery is eliminated and you can get on spotting enemies for your team.
Partial Success - You destroyed the Target but died shortly afterwards, it's okay, you got rid of the arty, your team thanks you.

OR

Defeat - the enemy Artillery destroyed you in your feeble attempt to eliminate
Epic Fail - You died on the way to your target. You Didn't read the steps did you.

Hope I can pass on this knowledge to future and current light tank drivers who are hellbent on destroying helpless arty.

Lots of nice tips, you could drive my tanks if you wanted to ;)

The only one i wouldn't immediately agree with is number 6. As other enemy tanks spot you there will almost always be at least one who will try to kill you/pursue. Which can give a great advantage to your team.
E.G. you rush the hill down on the east of Westfield, enemy tanks in the southern part of village which might be pushing/surrounding your team in the village might focus on you (they have no chance of hitting due to your speed + distance). And in the meantime your arty/team in village/support on east might snipe them in the back, so even if you don't manage to get to their arty, you might have caused a push on one flank.

Most of these points are, while standing alone, pretty obvious to me, but seeing them all together in a neat package with possible outcomes and what it means for your team kinda does help. Thanks.

Most of this is common sense. And besides, the people who should be reading never go on the forums.

Wheres the step that says: Stop right in front of the enemy arty to aim for that perfect shot!

I see a lot of scouts doing that so it must be a great idea!

Also, drive in straight line. You want to get to arty as quick as possible. Zig zagging, just wastes precious time.

and if you get tracked while under fire, never use a repair kit.  It's a waste of 3K credits or 50 gold.

Using hard cover where possible is the whimpy way to do it too. And if you do pick up kling-on, one of those anti-scout enemies, FGS don't hide behind the enemy arty like a little girly-man; get out there and hammer at both of them!

If you do manage to get alongside my su14, be sure to drive complete circles around me.  After all, it's dangerous to stop.
