After getting some positive feedback on the 59-16 guide and noticing questions popping up on the WZ-131 I have decided to write up another quick guide.

For starters, the 131 is a much better tank than the 59-16.  Like the 59-16 though it has some gun options and two competing styles of play that hing on which gun you take (I am seeing this trend along the light/med lines).

Gun Rundown:

You start with the infamous 76auto and should be accustomed to your preference on that weapon now.  However, you do not have any other choice for first gun, you must grind through or free xp past.  Not a huge problem when you consider the 131 actually seems to have BETTER matchmaking than the 59-16  :Smile_veryhappy: .  The two tier VI and the tier VII 85mm guns are capable right from the start and employ the strat you would tend to use with the 57mm from the 59-16.  The 85s offer mediocre pen with great rof and dpm respectively.  When it comes down to it though you really only have two gun choices, the tier VIII 85 mm 64-85T or the tier VIII 100 mm 59-100T.

85 mm 64-85T - Hard hitting 85 (I call it "T-Bone" because of the muzzle brake)
+Light weight
+GREAT rof and dpm
+260 pen on gold....
+Accurate
+Accurate on the move
+Fast aim time
+High HE damage, same philosophy as the 76auto when applicable.
+Cheaper to operate (=Profits!)
-Lower alpha (on by 50 though)

100 mm 59-100T - The Type 59s cannon (but with lower fire rate)
+Higher Alpha
+Higher pen (with AP, less with gold)
+Surprise factor "Holy shitballz Batman, a light tank just hit us for 300 dmg!!!!"
-Heavier
-Lower rof

Armor:

Don't get hit. The speed of a mongoose and cat like reflexes are your friend.

Mobility:

Great mobility when fully upgraded.  Handles like the Type 62 but with more cajones, so you do skid around a bit.
+Decent climber
+Even better terrain crossing ability than 59-16.
+Holds speed better while turning (quick acceleration)

Other:

+Decent view range at 390m with top turret
+/- Ram selection.  Russian and French lights, YES! Anything else? Take evasive action!
-Chinese gun depression (although feels better than most Chinese tanks)

Equip:

I am not much of a passive scouter so I go rammer, vstab, and vents.  Yes! This tank can fit a vstab and it is super!  Although optics/binos, net, etc are also good choice.

Which type of crew skills and equipment would you recommend?

I almost always, on every tank regardless get Brothers in Arms first.  However, sixth sense is invaluble on this guy so...yeah.  The camo skill is also a good second or third choice.  I went for crew specific skills first.  Commander = sixth sense! Clutch braking and off road driving are good choices, as well as smooth ride for the driver.  The gunner would benefit from snap shot or dead-eye (hehe break stuff) first. Loader would be safe stoage, although he is also responsible for the radio...situational awareness perhaps (but after stowage). Also, it's a light tank and repair is good to have later on.

I generally use the standard three (repair, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher) although oil and/or a speed governor are at times fun.  This guy does not light on fire quite as easy as most Chines tanks, however, I wouldn't risk it  :Smile-hiding: .

How I play/tactics:

Based on gun completely.  While I use both, I prefer the 85mm.  Just feels right for me.  I employ very aggressive drive byes and confusion runs with this to great effect.  Although when I do stand still, I find a nice warm bush and unleash that dpm.  This gun makes you a huge threat to lights and medium tanks.  While I can't take on a Type 59 or T-54 head to head, I can easily track him and either get away or flank and start punching him in the kidneys.  This gun loves side shots.  Works well when you flank engaged enemies.  Quick enough to get there, get more than one shot off and then get out if you need to.  Excels at anti scout.

The 100mm for me turns the 131 into a mobile gun platform that shines when supporting bigger teammates.  Can rain down shots from med ranges or drive in, smack an ass, and then run like hell.  Its higher AP pen means you can start hitting many targets reliably in the face, i.e. lower glacius and sometimes even turrets. Know thy foe.

Also in comparison to the Type 62, people say "Why bother, they are the same dang tank?!"  Well, yes they are..but the 131 has better engines and guns.  These two factors make all the difference.  I find 131 far superior than the Type 62 in all tasks because of this.

Gotta go for now, will finish this soon.

Good question Leon.  I briefly addressed it.  Let me know if that is helpful enough.  I didn't really say why, but that is how I have mine set up.

I couldn't agree more.  I like my Type 62.  I love my WZ-131.

I'm loving the WZ-131.  With the top 85mm it's a highly mobile dps machine spitting out 200 damage every 4.6 seconds.  I'm running mine with a full camo load out atm.

For active or passive scouting it does a great job at remaining undetected.

It's great for counter scouting and plenty fast enough to run for the arty.

The gold rounds are awesome but generally not needed because this tank is made to be used as an aggressive speed flanker.  Hit em in the side or rear and move on...or circle strafe when the opportunity presents itself.

It's also a cool looking tank.

I typically see Tier 9 matches with the occasional Tier 8 or 10 battle.

I've just started playing the 131 and it seems to me that the best 85mm cannon has better accuracy and DPM than the 100mm cannon.  The 100 has a bit more pen which makes it tempting, but I can carry a few premium rounds for difficult situation.  The RoF & DPM make me consider the 85mm and the extra accuracy kinda clinches the deal for me.

So far the WZ-131 seems like a pretty capable scout with a very usable gun, this should be an enjoyable grind!
