... Something I've bounced off the metaphorical wall: Would Artillery be more tolerable if it had a shallower firing arch and hence couldn't strike targets that were behind some sort of cover? Yes, Time to Target becomes faster in most cases, but it loses its ability to strike behind rocks or hills, and for the most part would have to risk itself more in order to get results as opposed to being able to hang back. It could still hit targets on the other side of the map, and could possibly bypass houses and hills, but the flatter trajectory would also mean it wasn't hitting the thin armor on top of the tank, but instead the (generally) tougher side or front armor.

By no means would this shut EVERYONE up - this is an internet forum, it exists for complaints - but I'm just seeking opinions.

Artillery plays like a mortar and not artillery and is unrealistic as represented in its gameplay.

Bottom line.

lets just see what everything will look like after they balance tier 8 arty as tier 10's. May be not all that bad.

I got a t92. I don't mind losing the "arty mode view" for a fire will angles setting and 5x the splash.  lol

Sadly the true arty hater's response would be as follows.

"Wah wah wah. They have the finger of god targetting (Though with direct line of site I can one shot the hell out of them). Wah wah wah. Their big slow loading gun does massive damage (Though my gun has a chance to potentially do more damage cause it loads quicker). Wah wah wah. They are so damn accurate (Though i am crazy enough to stay where I was already hit by arty.) Wah wah wah. It is so unfair. (Though arty had been used in the war. and with it it oh my god makes you have to actually think before you act.)

Weird I see a trend. Course I wont say what the trend is cause that would be flaming. lol

Without arty, people wouldn't be able to be so relieved to have a game without arty.  Come on, they're doing you a favour :)

THe question was about the firing arch, not removing artillery.

Suggest you educate yourself on why Mortars have been developed.

why arty are snipers is the real problems, we have TDs for that and tanks as well. ww2 arty would never dream of hitting a moving tank on purpose back then. So they saturated an area intensly do deny movement and make pay those who didn't get away from the barrage.

so adding arty snipers (with god mode view and mortar steep arcs to shoot behind things) into a ww2 tanks game is ridiculous at best.

The artillery I shot for 10 years (we called it a 5-inch, it's approx 127mm) has an initial velocity of around 2700 FPS and has a trajectory like a rifle shot. Max ordinate was low as hell, even at 11 nm. You could still kill seagulls with it throwing a round out 22,000 yards.

We actually couldn't bloop a shot without loading low velocity powder cans (less than half the boom).

The arc in game is not high enough for mortar fire. It's somewhere in between.

Not a WWII tank game for one, and not a simulation for two.

If you want arty to be realistic, lets do the same for tank, if you are penned once, you are dead, since that is what happens 80% of the time.

I actually enjoy how arty works in game.

It's like squaring off in a bar fight with a big Marine in my face and my buddy, the 130 pound Sonar Tech, comes out from behind the juke box and nails him across the back of the head with a pool cue.

Sure, the Marine doesn't appreciate it but the only fair fight is the one you lose.

Mortars are the grunt equivelant of arty for when no such asset is available or is inadvisable due to terrain concerns. (civilan population collateral damage etc)

LOL, and single-handedly remove the Russian SPG trees forte? I think you overestimate Belarus in their moment of triumph.

Bottom line.

It has to be, because realisticly arty would be 5-6 maps away, and not half as close to fight as  they are now.
