So i have been using the IS and recently i have noticed with the 122mm D-2-5T and the 122mm D-25T is that i seem to do ALOT more damage when i pen with the D-2-5T then the D-25T against the same tank. For example i shot a panther 2 right in the front where the machine gun is at with the D-2-5T and did 457 dmg the i switched guns after that match to the D-25T waiting till i got a game with a panther 2 again, shot in the same spot and only did 124! The thing that upsets me is the D-25T is "suppose" to be the better gun.
Please Help!
Thank you!

I hate it when it goes we hit them hard and its like no or 50hp damage like come on my shells cost 1000 a price really

The damage ratings are "average damage". I've hit anywhere between 300-500 with 122mm guns, it just depends on armor thickness and RNG.

If you did less than 293 (minimum damage) with the D-25T and you didn't kill him, you are using HE. No other way, now go and load AP in that

When Is It a good idea to use HE on a non arty? I only find it good when Im shooting HE at arty, maybe not even that,

when you need to reset the cap asap and you know te enemy on cap are too heavily armored to be penned easily and you know you will get killed if you take time to aim the weakspot

When ennemies have 1 hp left and you don't want to bounce.

It could be that the shell encountered a module and had part of the damage roll applied to the module before the rest of the damage roll was transferred to the "core" hit point pool.

HE is good for interrupting cap since its not important to do a lot of damage, and is more likely to do some damage to reduce their cap points. Also, if you're running something with a "derp" gun (like the 105 on the Sherman or PZ 4), their primary shell is the HE (or premium rounds, which add a lot more pen at a price).

Oh ye of little game mechanics understanding. Your shell hit a module, which ate some of the damage. Modules have health, just like tanks, and if you hit a module your shell must first destroy the module before moving on and doing damage to the actual tank.

Oh, you mean these mechanics?
Quote
The potential for module and crew damage is balanced individually for each shell - generally speaking low tier guns can cause more critical damage than armour damage, whereas the inverse is true for high tier guns. The reason is that low tier tanks have considerably more module hitpoints - another hidden property of your tank - than they have armour hitpoints. At high tiers the opposite is true.
