Two tier 9's, one of which is a heavy flanker, the other is long range support, although both can do OK up front in a pinch.

The IS8's superiority over the M103:
-Better top speed
-Better view range
-40 more alpha damage
-Faster hull traverse
-Pike nose - pro or con?
-Less chance of fire
-Better side armor (but still only 81mm with a tiny bit of spaced armor)
-Lower profile
-Higher reverse speed
-Better camo while still and firing

The M103's advantages:
-50 more hitpoints
-Better power/weight ratio
-Slightly better penetration
-Better accuracy
-Better turret traverse
-Better gun depression
-Better aim time
-Much better aim time
-Better accuracy while moving
-Pivots in place
-Better camo while moving
-Generally superior frontal armor (weak spots are pretty small, and if you don't need to aim for weakspots, you certainly won't on the IS8)

Which wins out in your mind? Personally, I'm thinking of selling my IS8, because there isn't much an M103 can't do. But they're both pretty all good all round tanks. If you had the choice, which would you take?

I'd have to say the M103, and I say that as a past IS-8 owner. It is not a bad tank, however, is difficult to play. It's main downside is that its armor is utter crap.

And to be honest, the speed isn't what people make it out to be. It's faster than all the others, but its acceleration rate is very poor.

All rounder... M103 for sure.

IS-8 is better because it doesn't get stupidly bad BL-10 dispersion.

Please rethink your M103 carefully.

M103 is the better all rounder. It can fill holes in team composition better than IS-8 can.

My M58 almost always hits the sides of the reticle on the M103. My IS-8 hits the centre most often. The shell dispersion is really bad on the M103 but its accuracy is good.

I personally do not get too scared against the m103. I find it easier to take on than the IS8 which I pen all day long for 0 damage.

I hated the IS-8 when I had it. The M103 is a better tank.

This. I sold my elite IS-8 even before researching the final gun on M103.

M103 is better all rounder I mis-cast vote on that  but IS-8 totally better assaulter.

M103 can do it all in a pinch but is best as sniper which with its gun and design of turret it can do very well.  but Assault is definitely something it doesn't want to do can do it but not best bet, side of hull and turret might as well be wide open if enemy can get a shot on them.  Add on closer it gets easier it is for enemy to aim at weak spots  Slgihtly angeld using wedge turret and accurate gun from distance it should pick enemy apart while letting its armor (especially on turret at such extreme angles) ricochet rounds as enemy can't really pick out weak spots at range.

IS8 from pointed front to low turret and slopes on everything all around, was designed for and around assaulting straight on, angling ehhh its built into the prow actually turning you hull to angle yourself weakens the angles on your prow.  IS8 like any tank can Snipe, just not where it is best armor boosted as weakness harder to aim at but it was set to walk up knock on door and upper cut ya.

Personally both tanks can be dealt with not to hard.  Prefer to face a M103 as most people don't play it right and try to assault taking away its advantage of range allowing me to get to sides and rip it up where as if at range that much harder to flank it.

IS8 are rather bouncey and the prow is a love/hate thing.  Being abel to rush in head first without having to go side to side but means people jsut off to sides hitting prow on side can pen me pretty easy.  Also Arty has a stable moving target to aim at.   1 on 1 its a monster thought or with some good support.

I enjoy both tanks alot.

Biggest reason I'm not scared of the IS-8 compared to the M103, is that the IS-8 has armor seemingly less than the old IS-3 - if his hull is exposed, it's easy, and if not, there's turret weakspots; whereas the M103 has about the best sloped armor around (but is still fairly thin, I've had odd occasions of tanks like my Black Prince punching through its nose with regular AP...), and has a laser pointer cannon.

had both ... M103 all the way!

Armor:
both have little, but the M103 can at least bounce once in a while, its usually maneuverable enough to keep up with the angling

Gun:
the M103 seems to hits at random edges of the aiming recticle more often, buts thats an issue with all american guns for me (105 on the patton and T29 and 120 on the T34 have the same problem) while the IS8 gun is more reliable for sniping. dps wise the M103 is a bit stronger while the IS8 has slightly more alpha. penetration and caliber is basically the same.

Engine:
the IS8 is faster on paper, but its acceleration is bad. the M103 is fast enough for what it needs to do.

Allround Performance:
Neither are strongly armored, so both rely on their ability to apply damage. The M103 has faster aimtime, better accuracy on the move (shortens aimtime further when stop&go), and better gun depression, so its generally easier to get your gun on the target. Also the IS8 doesnt have pivot turning, making it harder to maneuver well.
After having both elite, i immediately sold the IS8 (i also call it the EXP-Pinata - shitty high tiers give good damage multipliers - since its one of the few tanks im not overly afraid of even if i meet him in a T7/8) and im still driving my M103.
In comparison the IS8 only beats the M103 at sniping .. and thats usually not what you looking for if driving either of those.

IS-8 is not an allrounder. IS-8 is a super-medium.

M103, as I'm aware, is the only all-purpose heavy in tier 9.

E-75 would be, but it's just so slow.

M103 at all times.
The gun depression and maneuverability are its strongest points.

The M103 is the superior all-rounder, but really neither is the best in that department. That award belongs to the E-75 w/ or w/o gold.

agreed,
i sell my is8 and kept my is3, because is8 more like super medium :) and play as t9 (t9 mean more responsible)
with M103 u more independent (less dependable with team mate)

i miss IS4 t9 :)
