I have a serious question dilema here guys, and it portains to  my purchasing of the Ami heavy tank T29.
but before I ask some questions, I'll talk a little bit about my playstyle to give some reference as to whether this is a good choice or not.

-I love to snipe at mid-long ranges, but I know how to brawl with just about every tank I own (dickermax and marder II are the exceptions)

-I love my Tiger I but want something with more frontal armor and a higher alpha gun.

-I can't really do consistently well with the IS or other brawl heavy tanks that suck at range.

- My ideal tank is one that

a. Has decent speed an maneuverability

b. Has good armor and guns for the tier

c. Can either snipe, brawl, or be a mid line support vehicle, or something in between all of those.

d. Is not screwed over with one frontal shot killing the engine.

So, is the T29 a good 50% off buy? I have the cash, the garage slot, and the free xp and I'm looking for some sacred middle ground between the Tiger and IS tanks.

so what do?

It has a engine in the back, like all US tanks, so no worries about that. It's more of a mid-range defensive vehicle than an aggressive rusher IMO, but if you can find it a great hull down position, well, I just pity your enemies. As for speed, I have the stock engine so I can't judge. Unfortunately  it has bad hull armor, but if you only show your 279mm turret, you'll be fine.

Ive killed the damn thing countless times in pretty much every tank I own, culminating in my solo-ing a fully upgraded one at 70% in my panzer III.

The only thin I'm entirely worried about is the paper side and rear armor, It'l be a pain to get used to after all that time spent angeling my Tiger...

If they can't hit your turret, you'll be fine. Even some Tier 10 guns can't pen it. Go with allies to prevent being flanked. You won't need to angle your turret, since it will bounce almost any gun you're up against. Just remember: hide your hull at all costs.

bro, the tiger IS paper, my 90mm on my m6 goes through that thing like butter (with the help of a few teammates obviously), and no, the t29 aint no paper tank, that thing is the god of tank warfare. just remember hull down, and angle, like any other good ole 'murican tank

"It'l be a pain to get used to after all that time spent angeling my Tiger..."

as for this, the t29 does way better at this, can hardly pen the thing with the previously stated 90mm

t29 is the best of best tier 7 tank. The only one thing that I like to share to you is the gun's accuracy. If you snipe from long range, you need to aim a little bit higher. Once you found how to aim and this tank can take sniper spot but not as great as lowe.

Your hull might be able to bounce a few hits from tier 6 and below, but it is paper to tiers above that. What is really good, though, is your turret armor. I once held off 3 tier 9 tanks for a whole 5 minutes just by going into a hull down position. Believe me, you're invincible if you can find a good hull down position. It is also quite maneuverable, about on par with the tiger, and the gun is GREAT. 105mm of sheer pain. It can rip apart any tier 6 tanks. With it, you can three-shot a VK3601H, and one-shot a T-50. The gun's a little inaccurate, but only a little. It can snipe well at ranges of 200-600 meters. Brawling is a no-no with this tank, unless it is with tanks below your tier. If I need to directly engage an enemy, I find a hull-down spot, and keep pounding 105mm shells into their lower glacies, while they ricochet shots off me, and give me the Steel Wall achievement!

So, is the T29 a good 50% off buy? I have the cash, the garage slot, and the free xp and I'm looking for some sacred middle ground between the Tiger and IS tanks.

so what do?

a. Check. It's not exactly fast for a heavy tank, but it's certainly no slouch either (I'm looking at you, Brits). Decent top speed, decent hull/turret traverse.

b. Armor - half-check? Great turret armor, mediocre hull armor. Protect the hull and you're golden. An entrenched T29 can be a very difficult obstacle to move. Gun - Double-check. This gun can easily contend with the tier 9s you'll occasionally face. I even had decent results with it back when we still had to fight tier 10s. The only drawbacks on the gun are the aim time is just a bit on the slow side, and ammo is expensive. But this gun is what makes this tank so popular.

c. Check. Better sniper than brawler, but capable in a pinch.

d. Check. Rear engine; you'll take track damage far more often than engine damage.

This tank is a steal at 50% off. Get it, upgrade it, love it. And if you don't, hey, sell it back after the special is over and you've basically only lost time.

It's great fully upgraded. I've solo'd a VK4502(P) with nothing but some HE ammo and a dead KV-1s (for a hull-down position).

Sorry but I have to disagree with a lot of folks here.  It's armor is soft, but the T29 is a monster brawler.  Wiggle the tank or angle the armor as necessary and you will bounce more than you expect.  Hull down of course it's a beast, but getting hull down with Orbital Bombardment Cheat Mode out there it's not always easy to do.  The 90mm is a damn good gun if you feel like spamming sprem rounds (barely over 6 second reload time, pinpoint accuracy, same pen as the 105mm, 67% of the damage).  In fact some unicums prefer this gun for the fire rate.  My I prefer the 105 just because it fits my style better, and I don't seem to have a huge issue with hitting targets at range.  But make no mistake, this tank can brawl and brawl well.

I loved my T29 and will probably buy it back some day.  My play style is normally pick your shot sniper, but in this tank I brawled unless I was bottom tier.  Even at bottom tier the gun was effective, I was just reeaallyyy careful not to stick my nose out.  Occasionally you'll get a match where's only 1-2 tier 7s and you can roflstomp the most of the other team if you play it smart.  In those matches I played like a school playground bully.  Rolling down a hill to ram/crush a t-50-2 is soooooooooooo much fun.

I played the T29 as an aggressive front-lines tank, I died a lot but damn it could take the beating, I say go for it, besides, 50% off is a good thing!

Forget what people say about the t29 being the best tier 7 heavy, It's only the best when its hull down but the hull has a very large weak spot which is just paper, if you fight anyone that has any kind of sense youll get chewed up. The 29 is good but not the best

The Tiger P, Is the best tier 7 heavy without a doubt, 200mm of hull armour with up to 220mm in the drivers spot i believe, 120mm of turret armour, If your looking to brawl upclose that is the biggest weak spot besides the commanders hatch,

After you fire point your gun up and turn your turret side to side, since the mantlet is connected to the gun and its flat, it will likely deflect shots if u angle, mid to long range its almost impossible to pen especially if your angling...the gun is decent, nice rate of fire, and great pen and accuracy its german after all. The Tiger P would be a great tier 8 heavy so in tier 7 if you learn it. very op...Heres an example dont mind the FPS

Do yourself a favor and read up on the WoT wiki about the T29, and then go watch a few of the videos on how the T29 performs in battle on youtube, with that you will get a pretty good idea on whether or not the T29 meets your expectations and needs or not...........
