I was looking at the Ob'yekt 430 and I think it would make a good candidate for a second Soviet Tier 10 medium tank, particularly if used in the Ob'yekt 430U form

Specifications are here.

The Ob'yekt 430 is the ancestor of the T-64, but it's nowhere near as overpowered. The 430 had 120 mm hull frontal armour and up to 248 mm on the turret front, but very thin hull and turret sides and rear. It used the same gun as the T-62A, the 100 mm D-54TS, and carried 50 rounds. It had a 600 hp 5TD engine, and could reach 55 km/h. It fits the time period (design began in 1953, three prototypes built in 1957).

The Ob'yekt 430U had increased armour (160 mm hull frontal armour), and was armed with an improved version of the D-25T, the D-25TS, the same gun that armed the T-10A heavy tank (upgraded IS-8). The gun's performance stats can be found here.

What do you guys think? I apologise if this has been brought up before, I haven't found a similar thread yet through search.

Object 430U with 122 mm gun will be similar to 121 Chinese medium tank IMO, only with better hull armor.
It will be funny if devs will introduce Object 430U with 160 mm upper hull glacis - Soviet tier 10 MT will have better frontal armor than tier 10 heavy (IS-4 have 140 mm at almost same angle)  :Smile_veryhappy:

That would be funny. I have seen some claims that there were plans to test the 130 mm gun on the 430U, although I can't confirm that. In any case, the 430 (and probably 430U) have rubbish side and rear armour. Those cheeks at the front are also only 40 mm thick on the 430, and could be very prominent weakspots.

You mean hull cheeks? They are angled so well that i'm not sure about them being "weakspot".

Well, many of the guns at Tier 10 are 120 mm+, which means they don't autobounce (3 x 40 mm), if I am not mistaken, so they should punch through easily.

I totally agree with this too, but I think the Obj. 907 is going to cap off that medium line (not the 430U, unfortunately D:).

Yep.

"Later modified version of that gun [M-65 130mm cannon] with combustible cases and firing APDS competed vs 125mm smoothbore (mounted on Obj.430U), so gun had potential for development."

APDS would have somewhat more penetration than IS-7's gold ammo, in all likelihood.  HEAT would be godly.

No for 430U because,

Quote

Arms T-10 - 122-mm tank gun D-25TA with a barrel length of 48 calibres, and paired it with a 12.7-mm machine gun DShKM were installed in the cast mask. The gun had a two-chamber muzzle brake and automatic horizontal wedge bolt. The initial velocity armor-piercing projectile was 795 m / s

Also the 430 mounted the U-8TS, like the T-62a, the D-54TS was only mounted on the Obj. 140 and 142. Both had the same ballistics.

With a wave of SerB's fingers, a D-25 can become an M-62. Or he can give it fancy post-war ammo.

Wouldn't mind a 430U with an M-62, wouldn't surprise me if it was historical.

Screw that, I want the 430U with the bagged-case M-65 that Bojan mentioned.

Also, I want a custom vehicle inscription that says "Russian Bias" in Cyrillic for it in big red letters next to a portrait of Glorious Leader SerB.
