Replay Compatibility Pack

RCpack - the thing that lets you use WoT 8.4 to watch

replays from older versions with minimal overweight.

Old thread

Read it. Read it now or go away.

I will not bother with answering any question already existing in original thread.

Seriously. Go read it. That's why I put link to it.

Glossary:

RCP - Replay Compatibility Pack

RCV - Replay Compatibility Version

RCC - Replay Compatibility Changes

For rest use external knowledge source.

Thread policy

Screenshot or it did not happen.

I will not take serious any claims without a proof and/or documentation.

Only exception is rare case of you having my trust.

If you will post:

a) stupid content

b) boring content

c) repetitive content

I will ignore said content and probably any content you will ever post in this thread.

If you want welfare, go beg under a church.

If you will post:

a) intelligent content

b) interesting content

c) new content

Then I may respond, if I will fell like doing so.

Added compatibility with 8.1 and 8.0.

Attempted to fix several issues.

Do not ask how to download, unpack or install.

If you can not do it on your own, then RCP is to hard for you to use.

In future I may be bored enough to make newbie friendly interface.

Installation

Place RCPack in root directory of the game.

If something is named "read me" or in any similar manner, then read it.

And go read previous thread.

DISCLAIMER

If you screwed anything, its all your fault.

I hate you by default.

Whatever will happen, you deserve it.

Downloading files from unknown source is plainly stupid. Don't do it.

Note to moderators:

I would like to ask you to not edit or merge my posts.

Separated messages will be made intentionally, just like in older threads of RCP.

--KNOWN ISSUES--

2013-03-09 14:50 UTC: minor issue in RCV 8.2: in file paths.xml part "/RCpack/RCV/8.3/res_mods" should be replaced to "/RCpack/RCV/8.2/res_mods" - issue will create problems only when trying to put mods into RCV and will be corrected with release of new version.

2013-03-12 22:50 UTC: confirmed issue with RCV 8.2 resulting in critical failure for certain combinations of maps and tanks. Probably side effect of minimizing package size. Will be corrected in next release.

--GAME MODIFICATIONS--

Game modifications (mods) are strongly version dependent.

RCP disables current game version modifications in order to run smoothly.

However it is possible to use game modifications in RCP:

Every RCV contains its own res_mods directory.

You may freely use it just like normal res_mods aside from one difference:

It does not contain directory with game version, just put mods straight into res_mods of RCV.

Thank you!  :Smile_Default:

Edit: Actually I just had a problem  :Smile_sceptic:

The game is stuck on the loading screen with an incomplete roster (it is a random battle)...

Diary

I am still alive. RCP for 8.5 will come shortly after 8.5 release for NA server (I am to lazy to work with RU version).

RCV's for 7.x are postponed. Priority is being put on achieving full 8.x compatibility and correcting few minor issues.

So first release of RCV 8.5 will contain only 8.x compatibility - including 8.4 - as current system of cascading RCC's require top to bottom compatibility (no 8.4, no older versions).

No, this system is not bad, instead it is very good. Thanks to it I only need to create RCV for new release and add just few lines to paths.xml files instead of making every RCV form stratches yet again. Another advantage is lower size of RCV's as there is much lower amount of repeating data betwen them. This, however, seamingly creates disadvantage as it looks like you need every RCV to watch oldest replays. That is not true. What you really need is sum of RCC's between current and targeted version. You would need that data anyway, but now it is just neatly stored so you can easily select what you need (if you want to limit yourself to one version).

So yeah, RCP 8.4 was using experimental architecture, and it is now official that it was successful one. It works and it will stay.

For 8.5 I have another experiment planned. Tho it won't be in first release, instead it will happen together with 7.x compatibility (yea, I need that experiment to make 7.x RCV's)

Note: I hate you by default too.

I am trying to view even older than 8.0. I have been browsing the interwebs with minimal success, found one German program that looked promising but no. Suggestions?

No progress, not enough time to do it. There are two major factors why RCP releases are done randomly:
1. I do not need RCP, I have all WoT versions supporting replays installed so I can watch old replays without problems.
2. No one pays me for doing RCP, so I have little motivation to do it.

There is high chance that RCP for 8.6 will be released as in following months I should have some time to do it.
