Why is KV-1 the best tier 5 tank or at least the best tier 5 heavy?

The KV 1 receives great credits even in a tera bad game. It helped support my IS and IS 3 grind.

For the record, I managed to bounce a Tiger's shot in my KV-1.

Just saying.

How can you go wrong with the 57mm, BIA/vENTS/RAMMER  and it gives you a 1.86 sec reload, that's faster than any auto loader in the game.

Im gona get the kv1, but first i want to know why do alot of people say its the best tier 5 tank or tier 5 heavy? What makes it so good, what are its pros? What does it have that other tanks dont, etc.

Because while it has crappy maneuverability, skilled play can offset this.

Meanwhile you can't get very good Tier 5 level armor and a 122mm derper (made overpowered with gold rounds) except by picking the KV-5.

That said, in the current gold-derp environment, the maneuverability of the Panzer IV and Sherman do eclipse the KV somewhat as the king of Tier 5. The 105mm derp of both these meds fire a little faster and their gold rounds can penetrate and kill KVs with a fair level of consistency.

the gold derps on the panzer IV and Sherman are total BS, lol, if their pen was realistic like on the totally screwed over 3.7" howitzers *cough* *cough*, they'd bounce so often their owners would switch to HE in no time. As is the KV1 is virtually undamageable by its own tier when angled right or presenting the tracks. Its turret is hyper bouncy and the mobility never seemed like a problem while the firepower is very well balanced, with the ability to be a meat chopper with the 57mm or 122 and the ability to be a jack of all trades with the 85mm.

Personally the KV-1 is a very friendly tank to use, as has been said many times its armours thick, its guns are flexible depending on what you want (personal choice is the 85mm).  It does not have any major flaws like the BDR which has an amazing (if slow aiming) gun but trades that for being VERY squishy, whilst the Churchills gun is good but its armour is not and it does less damage thanks to its weedy 77mm gun, the KV is generally well protected, its guns will hurt anything it faces, even T-29s and Tigers can't ignore a well crewed and commanded KV-1.

In one battle at that russian beach map, one with the big arse mansion on it I came across a Tiger at 100% health. My KV was at 100% and he moved to engage me.  First shot bounced off my turret whilst I put one into his tracks and dropped back down a slope.  I put three shots into him before he repaired and came after me.  Nose to nose after he rammed me I just pumped shots into his cupola before a KV-1S came along and 122mm'ed him in the side and blew him to kingdom come.  I was at about 50% health, he for some reason kept firing at my turret and kept bouncing and yes, he did have the long 88.

Essentially it's because the KV-1 is "the complete package".  It is bad at nothing, and good enough at everything. It has good guns, good armor, decent mobility, etc. It isn't invulnerable or overpowered, but strong. This isn't to say that other tier 5 heavies don't have their advantages, or that the others are bad tanks. Simply, though, none of the other tier 5 heavies are as good in every single category.

I've had, and still have, quite a few good tanks.  But this result in the KV-1 speaks for itself (on a standard account):

And notice that the crew is at 76%, and I'm not using any equipment or consumables.

122 has higher alpha indeed.

However, KV-1 has piss-poor speed and agility.  Which makes alpha less useful(because faster tank can land two 105mm on Kv-1 and get behind cover for one 122mm).

Certain tier V medium tanks were only balanced against KV-1 when silver purchased 105mm HEAT became available.
Fact is, if on my KV-1 I'm grinding credits (not easy in higher tiers later on without premium account), I see that M4 or Pz. IV coming and I angle my hull and turn my gun, which I can accomplish before he manage to flank me normally, HE'S DEAD WITH THAT ONE SHOT, before he even gets a chance to fire! Anyways, the derp gun is only meant for short-medium range slug battles, if you know where to go and how to play, then you can almost always survive, until you get raped by Tier VII's.

the KV-1 is probably one of my most reliable warmachines in the garage; awesome thing, with a good selection of guns (an autocannon (57), a sniper (85) and a howitzer (122)), decent mobility, surprisingly durable armor for its tier (angling it makes it surprisingly bouncy) and it just feels right somehow. Then again I'm a heavy specialist so that may be a bit of a bias in my case.

I love my KV-1 when I angle most tier 7's bounce the first 3 shots or so unless they are using a.p.r.c. ammo.

I think a good player can take it because the reload time is very long.

KV-1 is an awesome vehicle but there are other vehicles near its tier that are its equal. I like my Churchill III and when slinging gold love taking apart KV-1s. But the KV-1 has a good balance of guns, armor and when upgraded decent but sluggish speed. In a city or map with scattered rocks or what not it can brawl a bit and still cover its rear. If it gets flanked by a T-50 or other lighter scout it is possible to take it apart with almost no issue... but with 1-2 flankers assisting it to cover weak spots it can be the center point of a tier V battle.
