Why is KV-1 the best tier 5 tank or at least the best tier 5 heavy?

It's just cause it has a good selection of guns, good HP, armor etc... Good tier 5 starter tank, had a lot of fun with it.

KV-1 is an awesome vehicle but there are other vehicles near its tier that are its equal. I like my Churchill III and when slinging gold love taking apart KV-1s. But the KV-1 has a good balance of guns, armor and when upgraded decent but sluggish speed. In a city or map with scattered rocks or what not it can brawl a bit and still cover its rear. If it gets flanked by a T-50 or other lighter scout it is possible to take it apart with almost no issue... but with 1-2 flankers assisting it to cover weak spots it can be the center point of a tier V battle.
All the tier 4 lights, (except the luchs with it's crappy autocannon) fail to pen it 3/4s of the time.

Light tank is not supposed to pen ht easily, especially one tier above.

Also, my T-50 rapes KV-1 easily just by circling and tracking with only AP(shoot flat rear armour).

And that is what I do with my T-50 as well. My Leopard does the same thing with its gun. When you start looking at some of the match making scouts get into it pays to start paying attention to weakspots and then to occassionally bring 10-20 rounds of gold for those hard to fight opponents, especially since you can buy some with silver.

go one on one with a KV1 and you're a deadman in most situations.

i have seen T-34 mediums circle KV-1s to death many times because the traverse of the turret isnt anything to smile about

Not even D2-5T can reliably kill 450/460hp mediums in one shot.

me using D2-5T gun fires at M6 tier six heavy at a range of 372M 870 damage NO ammo rack or engine fire and through the frontal armour.

the KV1 only has one glaring weakspot and thats the weird vent thing at the back and stuff above the tracks in that rear area. Everything else is pretty solid and able to bounce most guns with less then 100pen easily

I was never particularly impressed with mine, and I had it back when it had the 107mm, as the armour is cheese if people know how to aim and it's blind but if you can position it correctly it can eat a lot more punishment while dealing a lot more than its competition. I'd honestly say that on T5 the T-34 and M4 Sherman are probably overall a lot better than a KV-1 but they can do a lot more than the KV can, as it's just kind of a damage sponge and dealer; while the mediums can still actually move around the battlefield while dealing damage, spotting etc.

But for T5 heavies it's the top of the pile really.
