Specifically I have an IS-3 with the best gun on it.  Is that gun a "Derp" gun?  It doesn't have HEAT rounds.

Thanks!

Anything with a big boom, lots of damage and a long reload is officially considered a "derp". A common example of this would be the M4 and PzIV's 105 mm gun.

Derp= Lower ROF, higher damage output, larger caliber (at least for their tiers) KV-1 with 122 is "derpy" KV-2 with 152 is Derp. At least that's how I'd describe it.

think of it like this ..  Derp gun = Death star
usually low ROF, stupid high damage and low accuracy.

also im not sure on this one but i think derp guns usually work better with HE.

A derp gun is a stubby, high-caliber (at least for the tier) gun with low accuracy and ludicrous damage.

The KV-2's 152mm gun is a derp gun.
The KV-2's 107mm gun is not a derp gun.

If you had full HP and you suddenly died from shot of same tier tank, then it had derp.

Isn't it basically any tank-mounted (non-arty) howitzer? Using primarily HE and HEAT?

Everone is right about the Derp gun it started I think with the HE fireing 152mm gun on the KV(before the KV-1). I know there has been a lot of My little pony stuff used in this game(god knows why). So just watch this i am sure it tell you all LoL.

As said above, low reloading guns with VERY powerful HE shells and no pen at all.

They are nicknamed DERP for two reasons:

- Derp driver: Even people with very low IQ can do wonders on derp tanks. With autoaim, skipping the weakspots, etc...  just aiming and firing, the driver will ALWAYS do damage, no matter what. So yeah, even derps can do something.

- Derp Target: Derp drivers will always use HE. You must be either REALLY unlucky, or being even a bigger derp than the driver to show your rear armor and/or your lowest armor part, to allow the derp tank to pen the HE and dealing full HE damage with you. Doesn't really count if the enemy use HEAT, that is.

A derp gun is an overpowered gun. For example the KV-2's 152mm gun for its regualr battles with tier V and IVs.

Derp gun; usually a howitzer that fires a shell with a low velocity.  Generally they have very low penetration for their AP.

Not really. Some 'howitzers', or HE guns lack the damage output to be considered a Derp. The main requirement of a Derp is to have a really high alpha to allow him deal a fair amount of damage even when hitting enemies frontal armor 1-2 tiers above his own.

The "Original" Derp:  KV-2 152mm.
The "Mini" Derp:  M5 Stuart 75mm.

The 152mm can deal 100-200 dmg on enemies up to Tier 8 hitting them anywhere and not piercing. Exception are the T-29 and T-32 heavies. If the shot hit the gun mantle there is high chances the damage will be absorved by its armor (i.e. 0 dmg hit). Even more if he's using the Spall Liner.

Hi, I have been asking around and can not seem to get a sensible explanation of what the term D.E.R.P. stands for.
NOT the explanation of what it is as people have entered above, some of which dont make sense related to some guns.

WIKI definition = STUPID Remark

PLEASE answer question as asked - NOT another explanation - U derps

D =
E =
R =
P =

Basically, a derp is a gun that fires low velocity high explosive rounds. In reality they are morters, and in actual warfare are not used on armoured targets, they are for anti-personell duties, and also used for demolishing buildings that enemy soldiers are hiding in.
You can tell in the game if the gun is a derp or not, mainly by the length of the barrell, but mostly by the shell flight going slowly in a high arc. The best use for this is tanks hiding behind low walls, the high arc can actually lob a shell over the wall, even though you dont have direct line of sight (sort of like arty) Get ready for the cries of hacker if you do this.

It stands for what your face does when it hits you.
