So, I've been sitting on my crew for awhile since the T21 (Didn't know the best place for this so I picked the seeming more popular forum) wondering what crew skills would be best for this line. I do intend to go all the way to Tier X on this, I've just never done a tree that goes Medium -> Light -> Medium -> Heavy with the crew total going from 5 to 4 along the way. So yeah I'm looking for opinions on the best way and in what order to teach my crew their skills since what would most benefit the T71 might not be best for the T57, at least that's my thoughts.

I was considering the typical skill format, 6th Sense/Snapshot/Deadeye/Repairs and BIA later for the second set.

Also, how often does this line get ammo racked. Compared to others anyways. Thanks.

Reload time is the biggest problem as you move up in tier.
Reload time increases and clip size decreases.
Total damage also goes up (if all shots penetrate).
You need to hide after firing your clip.

I have the T69 now and it seems to me that I get ammo racked a lot.

Train the crew for the T71.  Once fully researched, start over with new crew.  Never sell the T71, it's a keeper.

I've still only played about 100 games, but I don't find the T71 gets ammo racked much.  Like most of the lights with little armour in high tier games, it dies really easily so the trick is not to get hit at all......

Agreed. I still have my T71 even though I'm halfway through the t69 (which I'll also be keeping, and I don't keep tanks very often). My skills look like this:

Commander: Sixth sense, camo, 65% recon (if i switch him to the hoped-for M41 walker bulldog I can't have any radio man skills)
Gunner: Deadeye, Designated target, 65% camo (15% increased chance to light someone on fire with a drum + increased spotting. I like to stay versatile with my T71)
Driver: Smooth Ride, Camo, Off road king (it turns fast enough. I just wanted to increase it's overall mobility instead of it's turning radius)

I'm not too sure smooth ride's that great a skill, but I'm not made of gold so it's just gonna stay what it is

I nearing the completion of my second skill.  Once I do, I plan to respec to:

Commander: Sixth, BIA, Camo
Gunner: Deadeye, BIA, Camo
Driver: Camo, BIA, Smooth Ride

I'm going to miss camo until I can get it trained up as a third skill.  I'm tempted to skip deadeye on the gunner in favor of Camo, but I do spend a ton of time shooting the rear engine compartment on tanks so having an additional chance to light them up sound good.

I would keep the T71 and get a M22 Locust so the crew can pull double duty and get experience faster. The M22 Locust is also very fun to play and strategies that work for the T71 will serve you well on this tank as well.

I took camo skills on all three crew members. I also grabbed sixth sense for the commander, snap shot for the gunner, and smooth ride for the driver. I felt the smooth ride and snap shot work well with a Vert. Stab. and allow me to shoot alot more effectively on the move. I will definitely take BIA, but I felt these first six skills/perks worked best for me in the first two skill slots.

That's also what I've done. I also have the T69 (also a keeper) and T57 Heavy (a bigger, meaner T69).

One problem OP may not have considered is that the T71 only has a crew of 3 anyway....

T21 - 5 crew members
Chaffee - 5 crew members
T71 - 3 crew members
T69 and further down the branch - 4 crew members

maybe research on Chaffee if you're interested, and switch the crews from T21 to chaffee? I started with a new set of crew on T71 and maybe will do the same for T69 (currently having no interest to acquire it myself though), maybe you'd like to do the same.

For the skill training, I wouldn't suggest you to go fully medium-ish as your current set. Yes T71 could fill in the role of a medium tank but it only happens when you're in a match with tier 8s at the top. However MM will also often match you with tier 9s and 10s, and in such kinda match you will more likely have to play scout-wise. Therefore imo skills/perks such as 6th sense and camo, or even recon and so on shouldn't be completely disregarded. Usually a hybrid combination of skills for both scouting and medium purpose would help well in pub. The proportion, however, depends all on your major play style :)

For the ammo-racking issue...I seldom get hit in my ammo rack, even it's located at the front-right part of the tank. However expect track damage and engine damage if you must take a shot from the enemies.

The ammo rack definitely felt weak to me. Enough so that I immediately retrained to Safe Stowage for my T69 loader. I felt the T71 was better served with perks/skills other than Safe Stowage so I will just save a repair kit for the ammo rack.... if it doesn't blow.

The T71 and T69 are my first two autoloader tanks and I have really enjoyed them so far.

confirmed. ran some test with with my buddy and found the rack was actually quite vulnerable.

now i think the reason i seldom get ammo racked is because i basically try not to get hit in a light tank...and if i get hit, it often takes only 2 ~ 3 shots to get me killed in a high tier match, even more reduce the chance of module damage compared with those heavy tanks with much more hit-points, able to much more shots before death and thus with more often module damage.

I don't found it ammo rack being weak, rather I have engine stall a few times.

Exactly why I didn't worry about Safe Stowage on my T71, but immediately got it on my T69. I know I am going to take hits when driving the T69, but I try like heck to avoid taking any hits with the T71.

I haven't had enough engines issues that I can recall it being a problem, but, coming from German tanks and tds, I always tend to grab Preventive Maintenance. So this helps me mitigate catastrophic engine hits.... I hate fires. My T69 crew came from Super Pershing so they had rather good damage control skills/perks.
