Is there a benefit to locking the hull on a tank destroyer? When I first started playing TD's I locked hull to help driving yet I was wondering if locking hull
helps during stationary sniping/firing.

It keeps you from accidentally aiming past your gun's traverse limit and traversing the hull (which causes considerable reticle bloom). In something with a wide traverse arc, it's pretty helpful.

There is no particular benefit to locking the hull on a TD, SPG maybe. The only way it helps is if you want to peak around a corner or look behind you without turning your whole tank. In fact, I'd say don't use it when on the front lines, if you come across a fast moving vehicle, that split second will make all the difference.

If you pivot the hull you negate the camo value for your stationary TD also. Pivoting in place = moving as far as camo is concerned.

Yes, once you move your hull you lose your a large percentage of significant camo value. Locking hull prevents this

Another Benefit Locking the Hull has is that your Camo net and Binocs don't get deactivated due to Hull travers.

Locked hull setting will be over ridden if you hit your turning key on the keyboard when NOT in sniper mode.  It stops letting the mouse turn your vehicle automatically when you are stationary when you are NOT in sniper mode.

When in sniper mode, the hull locks automatically.  You can manually rotate your hull using the keyboard while in sniper mode.

If you want to look around without moving your hull, hold the right mouse button down.  Return to your original aiming pont before releasing the mouse.  If you do not, the hull will rotate to align the gun arc to be within the current sight line.  (Unless you have the hull locked).

The locking hull mode is one of the most important things to a SPG player

I'm not sure what you mean by locking the hull while driving.   But when stationary in a turretless TD, I recommend that you make it a habit to lock the hull with the x key.   Primary reason is to ensure that you do not break camo except when you want to.  You can also hold down the right mouse button but that gets tiring after a while and it's easy to screw it up and let the hull move.  Not the end of the world and often makes no difference but it can end in your death if you are spotted when you move your hull or if someone approaches while your binocs are down.

It does, if you want to look at targets that you could shoot, and you're hiding in a bush, you don't want to traverse to turn the camera, because that will give your position away more easily, since you're moving.

I'll do it on my Hummel, but for TD's I just right click to look around. Just like in tanks.
