Hey guys. I'm mostly interested in a sniper style of game play - ideally I'd like a long range line that does good damage/pen at long ranges. I've been going German Heavy tanks, but I'm relatively unimpressed with the Tiger - damage feels anemic, penetration feels weak. I know the long 88 solves that problem at least somewhat, but I'm wondering if that's really the best option for what I want. I don't really care for the "armor" aspect of the heavy tank, I'd gladly trade armor value or HP for a gun that feels more powerful at range, and/or some better camo.

I'm thinking what I really want is a Tank Destroyer line, but looking at the German ones I seem to have all the same guns as I have on the Tiger (and thus will have the same problems). Is there a better sniper line out there?

um no they dont, what u want is either the british TDs 2-9 (10 is very inaccurate)
or the future leopard 1 line or E-50 ausf M (panther line)

Just for your information, this is wrong. The Tiger's stock gun, 75 L/70, is top gun on the tier V STuG III. The 88 L/56 is top gun on the Jagdpanzer, and the Jagdpanther at Tier VII has the 105 L/52, which is the Tiger II's top gun, and a great gun. So...not the same.

If you want to stay German the E-50m has one of the most accurate guns in game but the German TD line doesn't end with a accurate sniper.

Russia has a lot of kick and good camo, America has versatility, British has a bigger derp then Germany, and France has a auto-loading TD that's just death if it catches you right.

So what are you looking for?

I'm not 100% on this, but I think that the TDs get slightly better versions of the guns that other tanks use.

German TD's is a little different where American and British TD's often have the same gun at a lower tier with slightly different specs.
German TD's kinda fly off the rocker at higher tier's and really have their own guns's no other tank has a 170mm gun(British do the same at Tier 10 with the 183mm as well).

German TD's are generally the most accurate from the StuG III all the way through the JPE-100. They are similar to the guns used on the Heavy Branches, but fire faster and more accurately

Honestly, I'd like to do better at long ranges. Maybe it's that my crew isn't maxed out but I feel like I get the worst of both worlds with the tiger - close in I'm not a brawler, so in city maps I'm slightly disadvantaged, and far out I'm not enough of a... TD I guess? for the sniping I like to do. Even at medium ranges where miss chance isn't much of a factor I don't know where to shoot tanks to do enough damage to make up for the fact that my shots feel weaker. Honestly it's just accuracy (I want to hit what I'm pointing at), pen (not bounce off of it), damage (and make it sad). I guess at the moment I feel like I have too much accuracy, okay pen (with the long 88), and not enough damage. I could care less about being part of a line or spearheading a charge - I'd much rather support my team with some kind of covering fire. I know that this was the German "Heavy Tank" doctrine, essentially but I also know this isn't WWII.

one thing about sniper tanks, the german one are huge so you get spotted too
the best sniper are the ones that can continue to snipe without being shot back or require to reposition
and those are the ussr td line, the camo are great, the accuracy is not good as the german, but it will get you through, plus obj 263 and obj 268 has the highest accuracy of tier 10 td
t62a is great too, but the whole line before it are not 'really' snipers, more like brawlers
dont worry about the tiger, the tiger 2 will be much better

Stug is fun becuase of its excellent camo rating, you can sit back and pop people and they'll never see you if you play your tank right. Panther is, for the most part, a dedicated sniper. The 75mm L100 has good pen, excellent RoF, but low alpha. The Jagdpanther might be what your looking for. Its got two top guns that fit different play styles. The 88 L71 is wonderful if you prefer a good RoF, the 105 is just flat out a great gun. Good reload, aim time, good alpha, and its accurate. Its got a decent camo rating too so you can stay out of sight pretty easily

I get the feeling you would enjoy German mediums you keep speed and have some of the best accuracy in game in exchange for high alpha shots.
Even the panther with it's 7.5cm long barrel can hit a fly off a tank at 300 meters and pen anything it goes against.

I have pretty decent success with my Jagdpanther. Best to stay at long range with it though.

Download install and run the test server if you can accept the 4.5 gig of updates.
you will then get enough XP Credits and Gold to buy whole lines of tanks and can try out any tanks TDs etc that seem likely

German medium line would be my recommendation if you want to snipe.  Panther II and up can also get up close if needed.

Not out yet. Leopard 1's gonna be the premier sniper of the game, but it's still in beta.
