Sure thing! I've got school from 10:00a.m. to 10:00p.m. (-7:00 GMT) Monday and Wednesday, so I should have some time tonight or tomorrow.

Mods oh mods... please please pin this.

As a matter of fact, why don't you remove the manual that comes with the game and replace it with this instead.

Nice work to you and yours MD.

Cheers

Why can't any of our NA players do this.

One of them is.  Me. I'll be looking for alpha readers for "World of Tanks, The Missing Manual," sometime after this weekend.  PM me if you're interested helping to edit it and scan it for errors.

I just took a quick look.  First impression: Very nice.

He spends farm more time explaining individual tank lines, and specific tanks, than I do, but less on specific tactics.  We have similar layouts, but different approaches to explaining things.  I think there's room for both of us.

He does have the advantage of being there first, but I'm not too far behind.

Why don't you collaborate, so you can make the ultimate guide. :P

Posting here since I'm one post short and probably a couple weeks shy of being able to PM people. :sceptic:
Currently editing and marking areas which may need revision. I'm on page 25 and have about 91 editorial/revisory notes; hopefully I can get it finished tonight.

Update: 11:38pm. PDT (-7:00 GMT). I'm on page 60 with 212 editorial/revisory notes. It's starting to look like I'll have to finish this up in the morning, but I'll see how far I get by 2:00am. :glasses:

Actually the tank descriptions are rather of an addendum. The emphasis of the guide is to help beginners get an overview of what is there in WoT and how to use it, so my guide mainly covers the basic game mechanics and related gui elements in some depth.

An in depth tactics guide imo goes far beyond a beginner's guide to the game, so I constrained myself to giving the most basic ideas of what to do and not to do in WoT and explaining popular techniques like hull down or side scraping. If you really wanted to go into detailled tactics, you'd have to explain them almost on a per map and partially even on a per tank or at least per tank class base. I also believe that a beginner would be absolutely overwhelmed by such a guide and not even capable to understand it. You need to see and feel a lot of these things to understand them. You cannot explain a piano novice how to interpret a piece by Chopin or piano concert by Mozart when he is stil struggling to understand why there are white and black keys and what the heck the pedals are good for.

Look at Tazilon's Pro Scout Guide, and you'll understand what I mean.

On the other side I found that many WoT beginners wanted to know what tank lines to research, and the brief overview really seemed to help them in that regard.

So I just gave a few basic rules a player can keep in the back of his head and when playing the game can say "Ah! That's what he was writing about."

Lots of advice in the guide that addresses exactly the stuff asked by newcomers over and over, and almost nobody seems to care ... least the mods.
The guide is really useful and informative - please spread the word about it.
