i have realized that some tanks are fast, and could be used as scouts, but some tanks just shouldn't. I will list a few

M18 Hellcat- yes i understand that this tank is fast (i have played it) but it is a TD not a scout tank. so please play it like a TD hide in bushes snipe, etc.

T49- again this tank is very fast, ( i love mine) but its not a scout tank. i play mine more like a fast medium, get behind people etc. and then the occasional sniping

Crusader- yes i understand that this tank is a light tank, but it simply is not fast enough to fulfill the scout tank roll. i tend to play it more like a medium tank with no armor. (flanking side shots etc.) and as a anti scout

ELC AMX- ok i do understand that this tank is very fast and can scout, but it does not fulfill this roll to its fullest. its more of a vulture tank/anti scout. what i mean by this is to go spot tanks at the begining of the game and run away to a sniper position and wait for a spot to open up then go in and create havok. this tank is also very good at jousting( driving towards somebody then shooting them at close distance and running away while reloading then rinse and repeat)

Cromwell- yes, this is in fact a medium tank! it is very fast and agile, but play it like a medium plz! this tank is very good. again flank shots etc...

i guess what im trying to get across is just because you are a fast tank doesnt mean you need to rush in and suiscout. it doesnt help if you rushing in and die, while lighting up the whole enemy team just so they can disappear 30 seconds later. learn the tanks advantages, disadvantages etc.

some game replays of what i am talking about

I dont get why people dont consider passive scouting a valid scouting role, all of which fast tanks can excel in.

The ELC can't climb at all. Which is why I try to engage them on steep hills.

Also, I agree on all except the ELC and Crusader. While I agree the ELC is a good vulture, most people will TK you if you don't scout.

And the Crusader is more of a passive scout.

More to the point nobody should suiscout at all.  Very few tanks have the moves to get away with it.

this is a valid way of scouting yes, but some tanks are better at it than others.

If you think the only thing the hellcat can do is sit in a bush and snipe, you're not using it to its fullest.

ok, im not an expert in the hellcat (i prefer the M36 Jackson actually) but what i am trying to say is just because it is a fast tank, doesnt mean it should be a scout

It's not suiscouting when people know what they are doing

passive scouting is when you hide someplace  this usually requires a good view range and camo. fast tanks can get further afield faster and start spotting sooner or from a deeper location, but if you are in an ELC for instance, you start with a crap radio and view range and can be spotted by the tier 9 crowd running 400m or higher spotting ranges on non-light tanks.

The way I kinda look at it, is that even if some tanks aren't technically scouts, if all the other scouts are dead and you're the fastest tank left, you're the new scout.

The Cromwell is a medium, but has the speed and agility of a light. This obviously means it's a scout, silly OP. Anything that handles even remotely similar to a light tank; in contrast to theory, IS a scout -Public Players

I noticed that as well. Having watched all of those replays, it's pretty apparent that his understanding of basic gameplay mechanics are... lacking.

ELC not a scout??? I think in the hands in a good scout/light player, it could be one of the best scouts in game

i beg to differ, it is an amazing scout if you use it right. isaw one get scout from spotting 14 people. so it is an amazing scout and only ok with other roles

At this point I am forced to assume that people just refuse to spell the word " role" correctly.

Anyway: yes, the ELC can scout very well.  The only thing seriously hindering it is it's radio range, and that's only sometimes applicable, and even then only an issue with arty parked in the extreme rear.

T49 and Hellcat especially should not scout unless they reaaally have to. With that turret speed, they can basically get circled by a real scout.
