Howdy folks, due to a suspected security incident we're asking that all players update their Wargaming ID password.

Make sure you sign into the World of Tanks portal and use the Account Management tools to get that ol' password changed.

The longer your password is, the more secure the account. Keep those tanks safe!

You can find the announcement for this request here.

Update/Clarification:

We have no proof at this time that any North American accounts were affected; however, we would still recommend that everyone make the change.

You know WGNA, great job handling this; you gave us a proactive warning, you made sure to post to both forums and Homepage and you even gave us 300 gold for doing so. That was really sweet of you guys. :D

I'd love you, but your system won't let me use stars.

Hard to have an effective password with so little variety.

WTH? You had a security breach that puts our accounts in danger? You realize some players have invested hundreds of dollars into their accounts to get to the garage up to their current status?

Working as intended? I guess you better block all accounts right now, and let people verify they are the actual users of that account via their e-mail account, cause this is a huge screw up that could cost your player base their money.

Stars....Stars.....do you mean "asterisks".....an effective password can be built by just using letters and numbers, combined with upper and lower case characters......and by changing your password every 30-60 days as well should be enough...really.

Have a nice day.

It appears your published standards may be incorrect, it says you can use 8 characters, but will not accept it until you have 10

Changed.

Serial numbers of an old Ipod work as great passwords.

Why don't we get the same event as the EU server does?  :teethhappy:

We are launching a “Change Your Password” event. During this event, every player that changes their password will receive 300(gold) for their account.

This why WG has decided to WARN its player/customer community that such an event has occurred....and that we all should take appropriate action.  This decision to alert us in this manner was not made lightly.  Think..just how embarrassing and damaging this can be to them.  By letting us know that our passwords may have been compromised..they are giving us the opportunity to help them and OURSELVES by changing our passwords correctly.

Just think about how many times companies get compromised and we never hear anything about it....hmm....tell me this does not happen......cause it does.  Especially with CEO's of companies either being lawyers or accountants.....they don't want to jeopardize the bottom line.

I for one salute WG for letting us know about the incident...and I have quickly changed my passwords on both of my WG accounts...ty WG.....now lets go shoot some tanks.

:)

Why does EU server get 300 gold with this and we don't get anything?

And what about the people that are on holiday, or have no internet for a week or 2 or a month, or are serving their country abroad for half a year? This is just a screw up that puts millions of dollars at stake. If you are going to warn people,  you don't reach the people that are currently not capable of changing it, cause they currently have no clue about what is going on....
