This is a collection of all the challenge threads I have made, covering over 6 months, dozens of tanks, and 1500+ replays. The threads have generated well over 100k views, thousands of posts, and over 30k replays downloaded.

Links to the replays can be found in the specific thread. Look it up in the spreadsheet or search on this forum for them. Note that older challenges may be incompatible or have broken links.

About the Tanks:

My sponsors picked the tanks, not me. Despite this, I got a wide selection -- from tier 3 to tier 10, every nation, at least two of every tank type, some crap tanks, some great tanks. Basically every major tank type is represented and every possible matchmaker combination. Some were picked specifically be to difficult to win in; others were picked because they are proven favorites; others, because they were new and people wanted to see them in action.

About Gold Rounds:

Before gold for silver, all the Challenges specified no gold and no platoons/cw/cb. But once gold rounds became available, those were incorporated into most challenges. Typically, gold rounds were limited to ~1/3 of capacity, although some tanks spammed gold full time (105mm derps). In general this just depended on what the sponsor wanted. Like it or not, gold rounds are standard equipment in a well equipped tank, and the challenges reflect that.

What this says about me Platooning:

I am ~21% over the server mean in this set of tanks. This is about 3% lower than my account average. However, this doesn't tell the whole story as I win more now than my account overall.

During this stretch of games, I averaged about 78.5% win rate. The breaks into a 84.7% win rate excluding the challenge games. This would include a small amount of cw/cb (probably less than 250 games), some random solopub to do my doubles, but the vast majority would be standard doubles in a standard platoon + progression grinding. I think this fits my norm -- 75%+ is expected in a platoon and with good tanks/mates 90%+ is not uncommon.

This suggests that my win rate in platoons is about ~15% because of good platoons and about ~20% because of superior skill. This can be debated to some degree (as the tanks I platoon in tend to be the better ones, which are more like 75% win rate solopub than 69%) but I think this is a decent approximation.

My Personal Performance:

70% win rate speaks for itself. I think I just shattered the last myth of solopub play. Not only can a good player get unicum stats, he can get DEEP into unicum land. These stats on a new account would be me in the top ~25 players on the server. And with 1500 games played, luck is simply no longer a factor.

My other stats -- exp/game, dpg, kpg -- do pretty well. However, with a few exceptions my DPG is not so crushingly overwhelming it will shock you. Instead I think it fits what I have claimed all along -- good DPG + good tactics are the key to winning, NOT massive DPG/Wn6/etc. Watching my replays will demonstrate my thinking -- aggressive, tactics oriented, unselfish play with an eye towards doing whatever I can to maximize my chances of winning. I sometimes fail hard, or simply can't do enough...but even in a 10 game stretch you can consistently watch me tilt the odds in my favor in small ways, both my tactics and by combat skill. When I have gone head to head with other unicums, this has been evident as well -- multiple times other unis have gotten more DPG than I...but lost the challenge because I won more. I believe this demonstrates the value of high activity in the right place rather than just trying to maximize DPG/WN7/whatever.

Thoughts on Specific Tanks:

I think I over performed in the KV-5 gold challenge, the T110E5, and the Conq. In each I had a good string of games (for example, 3 of my first 5 T110 games were over 7k damage). I think each would stabilize closer to 75%. This is reflected in my T29, Type 59, and Tet which are all mostly solopub but undocumented. The chaffee was a surprise. Who would have predicted a 76% win rate in a baby tank with terrible matchmaking? Yet it seems that solopub in lights (for me) is significantly better than platoons, and since the average pubby does nothing in lights a scout who can be productive tilts a lot more games than you would think.

Of course, its also plain to me I underestimated gold spam. In the past I thought it would give a very minor increase to DPG if the player aims well. That was clearly wrong. In my regular play, I virtually never spam gold, but when I did, I can usually see a ~25% increase in DPG. That would jump my average t8 from 2000 DPG to 2500 DPG, which would probably jump my win rates from ~75% to 80% with ease. That's huge, and has certainly pushed back the maximum solopub win rate. But even without gold, I attained 69% over 300 games in my KV-5. Gold spam is certainly an issues that needs to be addressed (imo, the solution is a cap -- 10% of capacity or 5 rounds, whichever is less).

On the flip side, I feel like I dropped the ball in the FCM. It was by far my worst challenge tank. It was the perfect storm of a weak tank in a weak role with a bad run of luck. I feel that my 704, churchhill, super pershing, and locust were a bit low as well. I think with more games played they would each normalize up a bit (possibly as high as 75%+). Some may think my M3Lee is a failure, but frankly, I think 58% in a gimped, crap tank is great. Even that is near unicum performance.

Conclusions:

So what's the peak of solopub?  I don't know. But its a lot higher than people thought. I can maintain ~75% in ideal conditions over long stretches...and even under standard conditions I expect 65%+. Others might do more. But regardless, I'm pretty sure I just proved every denier and stat pad accusation false.

I will finish up existing challenges (batchat, dickermax, and leopard1) but I don't plan on doing any more, nor do I plan on continuing to upload replays/commentary/guides. Thanks for your support, interest, and thanks to my sponsors for paying for all this.

Also, fun fact. In 1550 games I got exactly one draw. Here it is:

A true heart breaker, and a worthy note to close on.

Very impressive numbers.

I see win rate as 50% of won games being the average player. I have 51%, so I am personally able to prevent 2% of loses based of my play level.

With a 70% win rate, that means you are able to prevent 40% of games that would normally be loses based of your skill - very impressive!

I'm genuinely sad. My wife (who just started playing, talk about a long fight to get that to happen) knows how much I looked up to you Garbad, and she's going to be the only one to understand why I look like someone just ran over my cat all day. All my coworkers will just be like, "What the hell is a Garbad?".

Regardless, thanks for all the great info and dedication. Your guides and replays have been some of the greatest things in helping me understand this game better.

Awesome work and information.  Your threads have helped me drag myself up from sub 50% hell and become a better @ tanks.  Way to show the deniers.

That's an interesting perspective.  Makes sense though.  It's far easier to over-perform from a spot in which nothing is expected, than from a spot where ~.75 kpg/~ .8 DD:DR is expected.

I'm a little disappointed to see the challenges come to an end.  Perhaps another uni will pick up the torch.  Your legion of dedicated followers need new threads to post in, just so we can know how little they care.
