I love my PZIV with the long gun (L70) as a sniper tank and a TD 'with turret' tank however I have researched the PZIV tech line as well as the PZIII/IV line and wondering what's the best path since I like to SNIPE as well as support and kill tanks when I can.

Panther, tiger, tiger 2, panther 2, vk4502 are all decent snipers. Vk3001p and vk3002db less so.

VK3601H can mount the same 75mm gun that the Panzer IV carries, in addition to having a 75mm conical gun that has even more accuracy (pin point accuracy) and better penetration at the cost of damage.  With the conical you can easily place rounds into whatever part of the tank you want and rack up disabling critical hits.

The VK3601H also leads to the Tiger, another excellent sniping platform with the long 88 gun option.  On the medium tank side, you won't really get into great sniping tanks until you hit the VK3002DB which can also mount the 75mm that the Panzer IV has.  Then the Panther afterward has the long 88, like the Tiger, and the Panther II has an equally accurate 10.5mm.

However, the short 88 guns are acceptably accurate and dish out more damage than the 75mm.  Really, if you're playing German, all of the tanks past the Panzer IV can be played very well in a sniping role.

The 3001P is pretty good at sniping. Fully upgraded, it's reasonably mobile (even though it turns like a boat) and gets the 88mm L/56 and 75mm L/70, both with acceptable accuracy. It does fine with a mobile-sniper strategy.
The III/IV can't snipe at all. I loved it, but I played it pre-US patch when the combination of mobility and good sloped armor let it use its relatively inaccurate, lowish-penetration gun well. I don't know how good it is now. I'm sure stock PzIII/IV is still much better than stock PzIV, but eliting the III/IV just doesn't do too much.

Ok thanks for the thoughts. I just have to build more credits since the VK3601 and even the VK3001 series are MUCHO expensive LOL I got a cheap KV for 300K LOL But nothing drives like a German tank much less like the PZIV :)

Every tank past the Pz IV in the German tree has a sniping gun option - all of the mediums have the same 7.5cm L/70, all of the heavies and some mediums have the 8.8cm L/71, and the KT and 4502 have the 10.5cm L/68, not to mention the PaK equivalents on the Tank Destroyers plus the JT's fearsome 12.8cm L/61

You won't find yourself short of a weapon that can reach out and touch someone playing German vehicles  :Smile-hiding:

With the addition of the Panther 2 comes two sniping weapons, the 7.5cm L/100 and the 10.5cm L/52.

The 7.5cm outperforms the Konisch in terms of penetration and DPM while maintaining the ridiculous 0.27 accuracy, and the 10.5cm L/52... well.

390 damage per shot, 0.3 accuracy, and 7 rounds per minute. It makes the 10.5 L/68 on the KT and the VK45 seem obsolete in comparison.

That 7.5cm L/100 is realy joke for tier 8 gun,it isnt a sniping weapon. It can hit but cant harm. But should be great at DB or good as pantherII stock gun.

75L100 should be a stock gun on Panther II of course, but could be worse at T8 gun it could be the Könisch 75

Tiger with the long 88. It's slow, next to no armor but packs a punch at range.

Tiger with the Long 88 is basically the pz4 redux. Too bad the module damage is more than crippling on that thing :(

Got my VK3601 by selling the dreadful KV-1S. I like it do far and it behaves likes fast and sturdy PZIV :) No wonder it gets paired up with the KV-3.  I am just waiting for the 8.8cm gun to be unlocked :) I need 4K XP for it :)  So far no regrets and its a fun tank to drive :)

VK3601H is the way to go. When the game goes live I'm not going to go down the PzIII/IV > VK3001P line again, I'd rather have the VK3001H from the PzIV.

VK3601H with the 88 mm gun is what i opted for after the PZlV and its a great med tank capable of taking on tanks at great ranges and the 88mm gun has more than enough stopping power to take out tanks much larger than you are. :Smile_great:
