let's not forget they nerfed the RoF down to around 11rpm...

In history the gun was used until the barrel wore out and then replaced, due to the German shortage of wolfram, which is the ore frm which tungsten is made. The desicion was made (in '43 from memory) to allocate all tungsten supplies to machine tooling rather than tank rounds as tools could be resharpened but once you fired off your tungsten round it was lost for good. So this is a case of actual 'gold rounds' from history.
On a related note, the British 17 pounder gun usually used HVAP rounds almost exclusively against German armour which is why the SOMUA S-35 CA is so lack lustre with standard rounds, when in history it was a killer.
