After some very painful matches in which matchmaker kept insisting on putting my Ram II as the middle or bottom tier tank, I find I'm having some real trouble figuring out what the Ram II does best. Here are some notes I made:
- The QF 6-pdr Mk. IIIA has a ridiculously high DPM, the highest of any Tier 5, if I recall correctly. It also has poor accuracy, quite a lot of dispersion, and mediocre aim time and penetration.
- Heavy armour with a lot of HP for a Tier 5 medium tank, but some very obvious weakspots, as well as a weak turret. This, along with poor gun depression eliminates hull down as an option.
- Mediocre mobility, low top speed, decent agility.
Obviously the nature of the gun precludes sniping with the Ram. But the mobility seems a little on the low side for flanking, and circling can be difficult sometimes.
I'm fairly certain that the idea is to get fairly close so that you can leverage your superior DPM to overwhelm your target, which works fine at Tier 5 (unless you run into a HEAT spammer), but I'm not quite sure how to play the Ram in a Tier 7 game. It does bear some similarities to the T-34, but the T-34 has much better mobility, and a more accurate gun with higher penetration, which helps a lot more than the Ram's thicker armour in higher tier games.
I'd appreciate some advice and thoughts from better Ram players. I really want to like the Ram II, and am quite determined to make it work for me.

I am not going to lie, you made a bad choice choosing the RAM II. Sure, it gets in only up to Tier VI matches but that 6 Pounder is just not that great. If I were you, the best way to play this tank would be to get around the enemy and use the 6 Pounder's high RoF to inflict massive rear damage quickly and then retreat. The RAM is pretty fast so getting away won't be that bad but its armor and gun are not good for a head on assault. Get around the enemy and also engage light skinned targets to disperse them quickly. Happy hunting!

The Ram gets regular Tier 5 matchmaking, unfortunately. It's also not that fast...38 km/h top speed, although the acceleration and turning are good enough.
Also, as someone living in Canada, it is my duty to have one. Besides, I like the design of the tank. :)

That sounds like fun! i'll ask you for a platoon sometime so you can show me how to play those two tanks as SerB intended.

I love my Ram II - trade the Sherman M4 crew back and forth and they've gained significant experience. It pretty much demands premium rounds unless you are top four by matchmaker. Get a mate to coordinate with and it can be very fun. Not the best tank of all, but considering the 30 or so in my garage I play it almost every time I log on. It's not expensive to operate, certainly not compared to the VI's and VII's I'm into now. Cheers.

I usually stick near majority of arty or TD's at the start of the match and intercept the scouts on their suicide run. That quick rate of fire is great at getting aggro from opponents to distract them from going after intended targets (ie force the enemy to make mistakes), plus your armor is good from far away at bouncing shots. That 6 pounder can snipe fine if you let it aim, it just shoots 3 x's faster then it can aim but wait for it at you'll see it really is pretty accurate but the pen is terrible so do not do this all match.
Once you know what the map looks like now is the time to find a few targets hull down and holding off your team mates.
This is your cue to go flank them, make them turn their turrets with the 6 pounder (get aggro) and watch your team mates (formerly pinned down) kill them while you take cover but only long enough till the enemy loose interest & point their guns away from you again, then just go back at them if needed till their dead, then repeat till their all dead.

my opinion the RamII is not a credit earner so much as it's a crew trainer. I play mine to a decent w/r but I also played the M7 with the 6pdr gun to an above average w/r too. (note it wasn't particularly fun, but I seemed to win a lot in each compared to he average joe)
while it's not a true sniper it obviously can't brawl against derpers so there's a sweet spot of say 200m away where it does ok. try to time derpers you face, with a rammer and skilled crew you should be able to get 2 or 3 shots off vs the average derper's one.
track your enemy first if possible then fling a couple shots, back away - even retreat from that enemy if someone nearby can't finish them off or harass them for you. much like the much faster/more agile cromwell you have to get out of the mindset that you are going to be on average the killing machine. your kills typically will only come from finishing off targets and the longer you survive the better the chances of doing that.

ram 2 is fine it has good armor unlike the guys said above.
you get top tier you will dominate everyone that isnt a heavy or a 105 derper

I have great fun in the Ram II. Generally speaking I try and flank distracted targets and/or go after the thinner skinned vehicles. I carry APCR in case I run across a wounded KV or Churchill. Basically keep moving and keep shooting.
I use my Ram primarily as a crew trainer, but it always makes money if I am frugal with the premium ammo.

Ram II is an excellent crew trainer and support tank. Don't rush on the front line unless u know the map and a good place to snipe. It doesn't have good pen and it struggles against heavies on its own tier and most of the tanks on tier 6, so it's good to have some premium rounds for that occasions.
