Step into my Psych office and lay on the couch. So, You want the BEST? OK, Answer the following questions:

Are you active or lazy? Do you have ADD? Would you rather beat the other guy to a bloody pulp, or just head shot him and move on? Do you like being GOD or looking though spotting scopes? etc.

Every vehicle in the game falls into certain personality types.
Snipers - The low armored TD's. You hide, You sit, You wait. You go for the perfect shot. Not for people wanting to DO stuff. Often saves the game.
Chargers - The high armored TD's and the Heaviest Tanks on the board. In a tier 1 match this can be a simple med tank. These guys go for the throat and pound on stuff.
Scouts - Fast, agile, loves to kill big boys by running circle around them while pouring in the fire. for guys with ADD.
Artillery - GOD, Rarely "wins" the game outright. Often gets slaughtered when found. BUT when you hit that shift key and look DOWN on the world it is Godlike. Also Critical for your team. YOU can drop stuff BEHIND the building (not always but often). YOU can knock off the track or skin off the armor to make those heavies sitting ducks.

So, my advice: Analyze YOURSELF first. Find a category that appeals and FOLLOW it all the way up the Tech Tree to Tier 8 at least. THEN pick another category and do the same. ENJOY first. Don't "grind" a tank or tree you find to be against your personality or it will be too much like WORK.

I like my PzII, it's 20mm reloads its 10 shots in under 4 seconds and with 40mm of pen it can get through pretty much anything it comes up against. Also it has decent mobility and decent armor.

Tiers 3 and 4 are tricky and stressful because they can be thrown into matches with 2 or even 3 tiers above them and they cannot handle it. (Not meaning scouts) and even some of those don't always belong in some of the matchups they can get ...

My experience has been that if I get into a tier 5 match with some tier 3 tanks I usually never win those battles. Which stinks because I really like playing the t-46 ... except when I get several tier 5 matches.

Nice post. But it has to be the T18, it's the most OP low tier tank. I mean, when a tank can easily 1-shot a tank above it's tier from range it's pretty damn OP

Matilda. Tier 4 British medium tank. The 2 pounder gun is good for t4, and can pen tier 6's has a good rate of fire and decent accuracy. Also has some of the best armor in its tier. It is slow but that will keep a newbie from over extending. I quite enjoy the Matilda personally

Perhaps, but the Tetrarch is no longer available so your point is mute.  T18 is awesome.  I use a loltraktor for tier 1.  I regularly have multiple kill tier 2 battles in it.

First of all - good players don't use derp on T18. You'll be much more effective with the regular gun.
Secondly, T18 is not OP. Its just like AT1 and other TDs. And if you're talking best tier 2 tank - its the Tetrarch.

Having played both T-18 and AT-1, I disagree.  The T-18 has thick armor and is much harder to kill than an AT-1.
The AT-1 isn't bad, but it doesn't have the survivability.

Don't know the specs on the Tetrach, but I've played against it many times. It's a good little tank. But it isn't invincible. It's also no longer available, so that's a moot point.

Hmm, nice low tier tanks...there are some. Su-76, T-28, Chi-ha...PzC, Hetzer, Amx38, Alecto...but really, what line do you want to play.

moot point ?!? - tetrarch was available two weeks ago, so there is no reason to assume that it wont be available again. And although not invincible, with its tier IV gun, and up to 150mm penetration(in comparison tier X batchat has 50mm armor and T62A has 102mm armor) with gold rounds, add to that its speed (i'd say top  5 tank out of all tier 2/3 tanks) its an absolute monster.

I'd personally go with any artillery. Yeah I may not get the kills but 70% of the time I either hit the person (if they're lucky) or I take out their tracks (if they're very unlucky) and let my team bombard them.

And i would suggest to everyone to avoid artillery all together until you have at least 1000 battles under your belt. You should learn the maps, learn physics, learn tactics and mechanics of the game. Once you're comfortable with that your arty performance will benefit drasticly.

It depends, do you want the easiest tank to play, or do you want to learn how to play the game. If you want easy go for the T18. But be carefull, this will give you a false sense of security with its armour that will take a lot of time to unlearn when you advance. If you want to learn get a light, eg BT2. This tank is hard to play, has thin armour and an average gun. Learn to play this well and you'll be set up for the later tiers.
