so i just started playing world of tanks, im enjoying it, but on my laptop i'm having a bit of difficulty. all of my drivers are up to date, i more than meet the requirements, in fact i can play the game quite fine at highest settings with no lag or problems, over 100 fps, about 80 ping, etc.

but then after the first match, i get back to the lobby and everything starts running really slow. loading screens to even open the tech tree.. and if i go into another match (even with the game on all minimum settings) it takes about 3 minutes to load, so i load in 2 minutes after the match has started, then i'm stuck sitting there for another minute or two while the game catches up (shows 0 ping and 0 fps and the players start teleporting 50 feet at a time until the game catches up)

after this the game picks back up to 4-5 fps (laughable but i can still try to be useful, pretend to be a bush and spot or something) then, usually about 5 minutes later (or after the match if it ends before then) the game will freeze altogether and usually crash.

any ideas?

also, if i rerun the game, it persists, but if i restart my machine, it starts over (good for a game, then crap again), task manager resource manager doesnt show RAM issues or anything, so im not certain what the problem is, at a loss here.

system specs -
i5mobile 2.3 dual core model - I5 - 2410M,
6 gigs of ram,
nvidia 540M

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com shows i should be able to run the game at optimal settings, so i doubt my machine is too bad, unless the game has a dislike for laptop cards or something like this.

Do you have ANY mods running  ?? The game does not like SOME mods and will just run VERY slowly before CTD.

ah yes, reinstall.. i would love to do this, but i was one of the many getting the install issue. i downloaded the file, (which is like 4.8gigs) and installed and then it goes to update, gets to 4% and gave me an error.. ended up having to copy the file from a friends computer and move it over with a thumbstick, what i find funny is that his game folder is about 12gigs [edit] - its 14.8gigs, which i find to be odd considering how much less the websites download is. it would make sense that this was the problem if it wasnt for us having copied it onto several machines and only mine is the issue.

how big SHOULD the folder be? also, no addons that i know of, and the guy i copied from says he didnt have any either.

thanks for the quick replies! let me know! ill get on redownloading today, but 4 downloads and 4 install attempts failed (all from http://worldoftanks....nt/docs/update/) havent worked for me, but i'll try again. :P

p.s. laptops are stupid? thats not really a helpful comment contributing to the conversation, but i'd like to point out that i have the opportunity to go to many LAN parties and play sometimes at my job (lol) so a laptop was the best solution for me.

A 2.3 duel core is most likely the problem.  The game doesn't utilize hyperthreading so you are only running at 2.3G.  While I do not know the min. requirements off the top of my head I think your processor may not be up to speed.

i get that it cant use multicores, or hyperthreading, or anything fancy,
but why would it run great, and get well over 100 fps, no lag, no problems at all for an entire match, then just die off after that if it was a processor issue?

as stated above, i have tried quite a few times, max settings, minimum settings, anywhere in between, problem happens no matter what.

anyone able to tell me why the game is 14+gigs on my friends machines (unmodded) but the download from the site is only 4.8 gigs? (the site says its the newest version with all the updates included, so should be full size, right?)

I am not sure but I reckon its prob cos of patches- It updates and fails to dump out the old files. Mine is about 12 gig and I haven't done a clean re-install in quite a while. Maybe that's y cos I downloaded it on my new laptop so I can play on the move yesterday and that is 4.something gig

Do have a program that searches for updates (ie.windows or security)? I have a laptop, and when one of these programs starts (usually 5 to 10 min. after startup) I would lag really bad. I have to disable these programs when I play the game.

It sounds like you have some program coming on and taxing out your RAM.

i thought it was ram too, but when i tab out during the slowdown, resource manager shows over 80% of my 6 gigs of ram is available.

i do have a virus protection program, but i have turned it off (ended the task even) as well as steam, origin, etc, anything else running just to make sure WoT was dedicated all of my resources as needed.

whats funny is i can run BF3 just fine for long periods of time with 0 problems, which is a much more taxing game...

I found that on my laptop, I had to open nVidia, find WoT and manually select WoT.exe to run using the dedicated graphics card (not the integrated one). Make sure it's not running off the Intel one, and then select settings to run at maximum performance. Also I think nVidia's new program optimises the best settings for WoT, it's one of the options out there atm.

yea, thats actually what i did the last test using the new geforce experience, and that was when i came to find out i could run the game on effectively max settings and still run the game fine, i had actually thought this fixed it, until i left the first game and bam, sudden slowdown back on the main screen again (mouse lag etc), started the next match and never even loaded in before it was over... >.< thats when i finally got fed-up and came here.

its a i5 2410M processor. its above the minimum requirements  and can run at full setting. even a core 2 duo can run this game at max.

1- you are pushing your laptop to the edge, it will overheat.

2-when overheated a laptop stop giving 100%, falls down to about 20%

3- your trouble sir, is that you do not consider the materials of your laptop.

solution?
Minimize effects, and try again.

Does you fan sound stupidly loud? As one guy said earlier, you could be overheating. On my old laptop, I took the back off and realised that I couldn't spin my fan. At first I thought, ah, must only work when switched on, until I pressed too much and it started grating. As I turned it more a load of dust and other disgusting crap came out of it and it span so freely. I took a vacuum cleaner to it and "hoovered" the entire thing. It didn't overheat for another 3/4 months and it's what I've done on all my laptops ever since. Try vacuuming them.

Otherwise, it sounds like your laptop can't handle top specs even if it says it does. I didn't read the comments earlier, did you try reducing the visuals?

yes, i have reduced to minimum settings and tried, GPUz is coming up with acceptable temperature numbers, no worse than bf3 anyways, which doesnt experience any similar problems.

one thing to note is that, if it was overheating and throttling the video card due to heat, i would experience these problems in any video intensive program, not just world of tanks. i have verified i can go into WoT's, play, then encounter the problem, and immediately open bf3 and it runs fine, but if i open WoT again, its still running like crap, even given an hour of sitting doing nothing (and cooling back down) then starting WoT doesnt remove the problem, it still persists, until i restart the PC, at which time it's fine again for one game... which, if its happening later, after the card has cooled back to running temperature, it shouldnt be a heat thing.

i dunno, im starting to think i just cant play WoT >.<
