I have been looking for mods and everyone says I should get them from curse.com. I downloaded one and it became a folder. I didn't know what to do then. :amazed:
All advice will be appreciated.

Okay. (I'm not sure what folder your mod is currently in, but... )

1. Find your World of Tanks folder --> res_mods --> 0,8.6 --> place your mod
2. Typically you will now have a Gui folder with a flash folder inside. When you add new mods, just merge the new files within them.

P.S. If it's an audio mod - then acquire your entire audio folder, and place it within res_mod 0,8.6. Then merge the audio mod with this folder.

this is not always the case ... depending on the folder you get mods start in res_mods (new 4.0 xvm) not res_mods 0.8.6

Will the mods still work if they're for earlier versions?

He's most likely just getting a cross-hair mod or the like. Specifics would definitely help though.

Sometimes they will, but some will not. If they don't work several things can happen:
1. Your game won't load = broken mod
2. The mod doesn't work in game = broken mod
3. The mod isn't working properly = broken mod

I recommend simply reading the comments on Curse about the mod, and more often than not - people say it's or if isn't working for X patch.

depends on the mod, but most will still work just by changing the version folder

For the most part just follow the instructions that I've laid out for you. It's all about putting the downloaded files in the right place, so the client can fetch them for you.

Also, most mods come with a Read Me folder, which outlines installation and use. I would definitely read them to make sure they're installed correctly.

Download the curse client mod installer and then choose what mod you want and the curse installer does all the work for you,
just make sure the mods are for 8.6 which will be with the info for each mod.

you should get an aiomod then, not just a mod.. you dont know what conflicts with what so going one at a time will just cause error and headache.. get an aiomod..

heres mine http://forum.worldof...52-86-new-6-26/

there is a link at the very bottom of it for the hitskins

it conflicts with aiomods though... i have my stuff there and dont use the client for that reason

Unless it involves XVM, installing most mods is easy. You just take the res_mods folder you downloaded and drop it into your World of Tanks folder and it will merge your existing res_mods folder with the one you downloaded. Don't drop the new res_mods folder directly on top of your old one. If you do that, you will wind up with the new folder inside of your old folder. It needs to be dropped one level up at the World Of Tanks folder level.

Curse has a tool that is supposed to allow you to turn installed mods on and off, but I was never able to get it to work.

One thing you should do before installing any mod is back up your existing res_mods folder. To do that just copy it with a different name.
