I'm about 1/4 the way there to the BP from the Church 7, and a lot of people says it's not worth it, while others say it is... I mean the cannon doesn't really upgrade, and neither does the armor. Should I still go for it?

884 battles, will this be your first Tier 7??  I never played it, but it has a high rate of fire, good armor, but it is slow.

Most of my mates, say they liked the BP.  Go ahead and get it, find out for yourself.  If your goal is the Tier X, You may want to pick a different line.

The choice is yours.

Loved the Black Prince, effectively the turret is 250+, and a well angled front can bounce the biggest of Tier VIII guns. Can even troll some Tier IX's with smart play. I would recommend the Black Prince to anyone.

I mostly want the FV (T10) but the grind is a struggle so far

Black Prince is a huge step up from Church VII. You will love it and it has the potential to own the battle if MM is kind. And YES - it even eats T29's if played well.

The Brit tanks have amazing damage output. The black prince is amazing. It's basically a church 7 but with tougher armor and the mobility is amazing. It's not fast but you ALWAYS go top speed. You will never be flanked in this tank because it turns so fast you can keep your front to the tanks always. The armor is great as well and I don't recall much about the gun but I believe it's very fast firing with pretty decent penetration. Penetration means you can fire quicker be wise you don't need to aim as carefully. Thus giving you the ability to expose yourself for less time. Get this tank

Loved the Church I, hated the Church VII, Black Prince was pretty decent though.  I felt that the Black Prince has good survivability, but the major drawback is the alpha on the gun as it has similar characteristics to the guns prevalent on all the Churchills.

Honestly, it's my guilty pleasure tank.  116 battles, 66% win rate.  If you play it smart, angle your armor, use your low damage / high RoF gun properly, you can tear apart pretty much any tier VII tank (and quite a few Tier VIII's) in a face to face brawl.  It's a great sniper too, if you so chose.  The only huge downsize is top speed.  So once you actually ARRIVE at the battle, you'll love it.

My W/R with the BP was less than my average, but I still enjoyed playing the tank.  The Conquerer is worth grinding to as well.

I love the Black Prince. It is very nimble for a big slow tank.  The gun has low alpha but a great rate of fire allowing you to constantly put damage down range. The pen is also not bad , but not great. The Armor is the best thing about this tank. Just make sure to angle it and you can soak up damage like a boss.

I've only played about 5 battles in the BP and don't have it fully upgraded, but it's a large step up from the Churchill VII.  Even w/o the top tracks (but with top engine) it's much more agile.  Not to mention you have some gun depression.  Armor is the same.

I'm trying to grind the rest of the Comet really fast so I can get the top gun.  It's every bit as slow as the Churchill VII though.

Slow, but shockingly agile and a really good hill climber I find the BP to be alot of fun. Still got mine in the garage as a matter of fact. As for firepower and armor it is one of the best tier 7's, the only thing this beasty actually lacks is Alpha.

But what is truly worth it is the Cearn (The best all around tier 8 I have played yet) and then my favorite Heavy... the Conq.
And the armor isn't really "the same" as the Church as BP carries that huge armor even undernieth the front idler wheel.

This tank is all about soft stats...the turning power is unrivaled everywhere, soft or hard grounds.

The slowness give the stability to fire on the move at top speed, reaches top speed quickly and turns swiftly with the help of top engine, the top gun's penetration is comparable to its peers, the armor has been fixed and strengthened even further, and to top it off, it gained gun depression - a trait that  the earlier Churchill models sorely lack.

If you cannot handle lumbering at 20kph and deflecting/enduring shots, this tank is not for you. Only after the Prince you can go faster than 25kph...

BP is an interesting tank.
It has very tough frontal turret that only a few tier 9 tanks can penetrate without using gold round, however due to its height hull-down is difficult to perform. BP also shines when sidescraping because of its side armor because overmatching is impossible due to currently available gun caliber.
Its gun is a two-sided sword, while it has incredible rof and accuracy, its alpha and pen are lackluster. Against tier 7 or lower tank your gun is a beast, but against tier 8 or higher it becomes a pea shooter. It is recommended to bring some gold rounds.

Overall a nice upgrade from Churchill VII.

The BP is hands down a better tank, in nearly every regard, than the Church 7.  Agree with the above posters about soft-stats, once fully upgraded the BP can be a bag of pain for any opfor you run into and even mediums will fear you as this things ability to outturn them will leave them with a nasty surprise...

I'm a huge fan of the BP and enjoy the stuffing out of it. You will enjoy it as well.  If you are not enjoying your Church 7, then I would consider moving your Church 7 crew into your BP.

I'm a fan of the Conq as well, and I just got the FV (but cannot say I know what I"m doing with it.. turret is in the wrong place. <grin>)

Pros:
1. The top gun gives you 32mm more penetration power for a slight drop in dpm. This is definitely worth it.
2. Unlike the Churchill VII, the BP has very few weakspots on the front of the hull.
3. Pretty much turns like a medium. Can't remember how many scouts thought that they could circle me to death and pretty much regretted it.
4. You can mount a Vertical Stabilizer, making the BP a massively accurate mobile gun platform.

Cons:
1. Gun only does 150 average damage. This will never cause your opponents to fear you.
2. Never breaks 20kph.
3. While you receive a great buff to armor when moving on from the Churchill 7, remember that you can only bounce things if you are angled.
4. A lot wider than the Churchill 7.

BP is a godsend from the Church VII since the armour actually works and you get an actual gun upgrade this time.  From the other tier 7s I've played, the BP was 'okay'.  It was a beast in its tier, but it seemed completely useless in games with too many tier 8s and 9s; which is kind of a recurring issue with the entire British heavy line from what I've seen.

The only thing wrong with the BP is alpha damage is150 points on the top gun that means if your fighting some thing with a huge health point pool your pretty much screwed. Ya great pen poor alpha still means something with a huge health point pool is usually packing something big enough to kill you. For god sake there a few guns tier 7 that are hands down a better gun then what this tank has to offer. The Russian 100mm comes to mind, not to say it doesn't have its draw backs. But for the most part the B.P is a pretty good joke on the battle field when 75% of the players spamming gold ammo and a tier or two higher. People love fighting BP's they know that they will kill you before you kill them. As far as being in top tier games mm doesn't seem to do that much anymore and usually find yourself in tier 8 and 9 battles. So to answer your question is it worth it no plain and simple, there are much better heavy tanks to run the T29 for one the IS and tiger p just to name a few.
