"The Thread is dead! Long live The Thread!" :- Starne

Welcome, seekers of the Truth, to this most holy shrine. You have entered the arena of the disciples of comfort. I yield to the words of great disciple Lostwingman your introduction.

We are from a time you might not understand, a frightful period of KV-107s fighting T-46's and PzIIIA's, of Paper American Heavies with Big Boom Sticks, of pre-anyartynerfs, of HE being a useful shell choice for tanks, of the best late light tanks being T-50-2's and Chaffee's. We are from the before time, in the long long ago. Sit here forum-dweller, and listen to tales spun from minds long past sane

It is probably simplest to let veteran disciple Minibolo provide the history. A reading from the Book of Comfort. (Not to be confused with the Books of Comfort, by his Supreme Comfortableness in Perpetuity, R.P. Hunnicutt).

In the beginning Wargaming created the World of Tanks. Now the World of Tanks was was a brutal and uncomfortable place, with great gray boxes and sleek green triangles struggling to shoot down hills to mindlessly kill each other. As the melee continued the Spirit of Madokami hovered over the battlefield.

And Madokami said, “Let there be a tank,” and there was a tank. Madokami saw that the tank was good, and she separated the new tank from the ones that had come before. Madokami called the tank “T1 Cunningham” and she called the others "Germans" and "Russians"”. And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

And Madokami said, “Let there be a statistic to separate my tank from the others.” So Madokami made soft stats, and gave the soft stats to her tank, to differentiate her blessed tank from the others. And it was so. And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
And Madokami said, “Let the T1 Cunningham have companions, other Americans, so it will not be alone in this world.” And it was so. The World of Tanks produced Americans. Then Madokami said, let the Americans be grouped together, with the T1 Cunningham leading to lights and mediums and heavies and tank destroyers and artillery, each grouped according to their kinds. And Madokami saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

And in those days, the chosen of Madokami was known as "T30". "T30" lacked armor and survivability, but the Goddess' gift of "soft stats" made the tank a fearsome master of the battlefield. And the T30 became prideful, and said "Behold! No one can stand against me, for I have a cannon that makes the Gods themselves quake in fear. And Madokami looked on in disapproval as T30 blasphemed. In order to punish T30 for his pride, Madokami took her gift of Soft Stats from T30.

In the land there was a vicious Russian lord in the World of Tanks, who said "look upon the T30. Look how it rules over our IS7, despite not having armor or mobility. Madokami has withheld her gift from T30, so let us banish T30 to the desolate wastes of Tier 9, where it will languish in obscurity as a second-rate tank destroyer." And so it came to pass. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

And the Russian Lord said, “Let us replace the T30 with a creation of our own, so we can manage the creations of Madokami. We shall call it "T110" Let us announce the coming of this tank, but continually push back the day of release so the followers of Madokami lose hope and flock to our IS7. And the minions of the Russian lord loudly exalted the name of their false god, saying "Mighty is the IS7, for who can stand against it?

In these dark days, a small group of true believers gathered. They said "truly the chosen one will come. Madokami will not let her blessed line be tainted by the touch of the Russian lord. She will truly bring unto us a savior, who will lead her people out of the darkness and into the promised land. This group called themselves "T110's armor", and they spoke amongst themselves, debating what form Madokami's chosen would take. The Russian Lord's second-in-command brought news to the lord, saying "Behold, the followers of Madokami have foretold the coming of a savior that will lead them out of the IS7's mighty shadow and into the promised land." And the Russian Lord said "Let us spread doubt upon them. Release information of our creation." And information was released. The Russian Lord's false prophet spread words of blaspheme, calling the savior inferior to the IS7, and mocking Madokami's savior with faint praise of "comfort." And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

While the Russian Lord plotted and schemed, the spirit of Madokami hovered over the still form of T110. And Madokami said, "My son, though you are not of my own design, I shall bless you as if you were my own." And Madokami held out her radiant hand and touched the T110 on its soft cupola. And the Goddess' blessing of Soft Stats flowed into T110. Blessed by Soft Stats, T110 led the believers out from the shadow of IS7 and into the Promised Land.

And Madokami said "It is not good for T110 to be alone, for being alone is lonely. Let us create companions for T110, so he will not be alone." And so Madokami caused T110 to fall into a deep slumber. And she took from him a part of his glacis, and fashioned it together with her own hair.

So Madokami created sisters for T110 from his glacis and her blessed hair,
from the body of the Goddess she created them;
in E3, E4, T57, and M48 she created them.

Madokami blessed the T110 family and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the Russians in the field and the Germans in the hills, and over every machine that moves on the ground.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Madokami looked up all that she had created, and saw that it was good. Despite the meddling from the Russian Lord, her beloved children became fruitful and multiplied, and subdued the World of Tanks. With her work done, Madokami rested. And there was evening, and there was morning—the seventh day.

Amen.

So what was this foundation upon which this, new shrine is built? The Thread, of which the celebratory disciple Starne made mention?
"It was the best of threads, it was the worst of threads. In a world where pubtatoes ran in circles and threatened all that was good, where general discussion threads were a blight on the human soul, and where Tea Mold Mill sought nothing less than the subjugation of tankers everywhere beneath the breakdown-prone-tracks of the Great Tiger... there was one place that stood for hope and reason and balance, one sacred place that fought back the tides of stupid.

There was... The Epic Thread." :- Killjoycutter.

Sadly, in the words of bespectacled disciple DerViktim:
The T110E5 Armor Thread. A thread that was so full of EPIC WIN, information sharing, and general awesomeness that it threatened to break the forums.

But take not only DerViktim's word for it. According to Russophilic Disciple EnsignExpendable, it was "so comfortable, it broke the forums." EnsignExpendable was perhaps a bit premature, but his heart was in the right place.

Forces of evil ranged against the thread. Despite the failings of various prior attempts, and occasional drive-by-moderations, the strength of The Thread would redouble. As was stated by the redoubtable disciple Misfire42 so many moons ago: And if you strike this thread down it will become more powerful then you can possibly imagine.

Eventually, though, the time came, and The Thread was stepped down. For most threads, there is only death in obscurity. The Thread, though, took the Long Lock. In the Cursed Archives, outside this active page, it serves its remaining days, it continues to bring comfort to the comfortless to those who encounter it. (Or who click the link of Starne above)

However, light in the darkenss. A void calls out to be filled.

Even though the Thread died, it lives on in comforts name:- T__A
Like the majestic Phoenix, so the Thread rises anew from the ashes to proclaim the glory of Comfort once more. :- Tvanderhart

No longer a mere thread, this home to all who are gudpoasters (or at least, those willing to try) shall start strong and rejuvenated. All those who seek knowledge and truth with an open mind, and comfy sofa, are welcome. Thick skin is helpful.

From Metal to Metal has come forth the Great Epic Thread. May a new Great Comfort Thread rise once more.
These are the words of Miko Daigensui.

As we, be we veteran disciples and or new acolytes yet to come, continue to face the challenges posed by the Uncomfortable, it is only right to pay tribute to the glory of The Thread Past.

The following Threaddites have expressed their feelings. Raise your glass, and drink, as you lounge comfortably, upon the words of each disciple.
- Sadly, we were never compensated by Wargaming.net for stress testing the servers. But we were compensated by one another: we are a group of tank experts, unicums, and friends. :- WarriorOsprey
- I really could go for a Philly Cheese Steak right about now:- Haides
Disciple-Down-Under Potoroo has expressed his feelings by composing a song.
Epic Thread
(a lament; to the tune of "Danny Boy")Oh, Epic Thread, the mods, the mods are calling
Your time at end, our hearts they would deprive
Ten times ten thousand posts and now the thread is dying
They're moving you, moving to the Locked Archive.
.
Their corp'rate souls cannot, cannot abide your glory
They cannot see, your beauty burns their eyes
And all they do they do because of jealousy
Heeding not, heeding not our plaintive cries.
.
And so we weep, our tears, our tears are drowning
This world we know and countless worlds besides
There is no end, no limit to our bearing
The needless pain brought by these evil tides.
.
But you shall live, shall live on in our memories
No mod can kill these the sacred truthes we know
The Chieftain reigns and Comfort rules forever
Oh, Epic Thread, oh, Epic Thread, we love you so.

Celestial Alicorn Disciple Goldmountain has wished to express his feelings, on the other hand, by imagery.

- We only hit the five thousand page mark guys; give it another go! :- Agentice
-Through days dark and stormy where great Storm led us,
our eyes saw the bright sun of comfort above!
And Chieftain our leader with faith in the people,
inspired us to build up the thread that we loved!
:- Dominatus.
-I came, I saw, I Comforted:- Cmd_Storm, the progenitor.
-I was here at the start of this thread. I persisted well into the first 2000 pages before finally growing weary of this fantastic game known as Internet Tanks. While, by this time, my contributions shall long have been forgotten, I shall always remember The Thread™ in all its glory.
Fly off into the wild blue yonder, old girl. Be free, and may you know a lasting peace for all the debates, tangents, and discussions you have started over the years. You shall be missed.
Maybe. :- Onyx
Dear friends. May your journey to Ultimate Comfort be found through the guidance, wisdom, and salvation of this thread.

That journey may take fhe form of this map.

I close, with the unarguable sentiments of culinary disciple godofdun
FOR BACON!

The service has ended. Go forth, in peace, harmony, and general comfortableness.

See, he's just being American and knows that 5499 seems like 500 pages less than 5500. A big trick played on the server people.
edit: Anyways, I can't believe that the T110E5 is going to get an eggshell. That's entirely unhistorical. What it really needs is a nice angled, flat glacis with at least 300mm of siliceous composite armor.

No T110E2 thread? Awww, I thought it was witty enough for an internet forum

it's weird having low post numbers, it will take a while to get comfortable here.

Finished with a Top Gear reference. I feel like I did something right there.
Also, I guess I am reaping the reward of refusing to eulogize the Thread, for I have not been deemed worthy of a Chieftain quote box.
Also, I go down as +1 number 2.

Two questions, both unrelated. First, will the old thread be archived for all to bask in its comfortableness?

And second, when does NA get patch 8.8?

There's a comfort-ized version of the narration in The Thread That Came Before somewhere.

I helped.    Of course, I think you (and thus The Thread That Came Before, which is what I nominate as the name for the T110's Armor Thread, since this is The Thread now) introduced me to it, so you can claim that. The Top Gear reference was definitely good, though.
Also, while we were switching threads, I was doing this:

Aaaand you did it in a not-so-comfort tank. Disappointed.
Question. If The Thread Part 1: Armor disappears from the servers, do we lose our postcounts?
