Just unlocked the T29 heavy tank. Decided to mount the "Enhanced Torsion Bars" equipment since the suspension was already at its limits as stock. Already have the 90mm M3 from the M6 heavy, and I got the top radio off the M7 medium, so that's good to go.

Decided to load a 60% AP to 40% APCR ammo load; bad idea? I understand that the guns the Soviet heavies get at this level get only 10% more penetration on standard AP, but the T29 isn't meant to brawl like the Soviets, so I figure I'd be better off a bit back.

Already have "Enhanced Torsion Bars", decided to mount Vents and a Vertical Stabilizer since I had the capacity; is this a good setup for the T29? Or should I have fitted a Shell Rammer, or Enhanced Gun Laying Drive?

Also, what should be my top priority after I upgrade the suspension(so I can take these enhanced torsion bars off and mount something more useful in their place): 105mm gun, or engines?

go hull down, its gun is epic, get the gun first and then the engines (its quite sluggish until you get the 2nd best engine at least and even then get the top engine)

Yeah, okay, I understand the part about "hull down", I understand that's the strength of the US heavies. [sarcasm]Any other obvious tips?[/sarcasm]

What about my ammo load, or my equipment fit?

you'll want the rammer & gun laying drive - anything to make shooting faster.  I also went with coated optics so I could see farther.

well first off,

your ammo load I think is a little prem dependant for a tank with very good pen (but then I again I usually carry like 4,5 shells).

rammer might benefit since the reload is quite long especially without the upgraded turret.

Def gun first, the 105 is just brutal at T7,and you should never really worry to much about mobility in the 29,your a fortress when you find a good hull down spot.
Equipment wise I like Rammer(obv)vents,3rd slot is always dealers choice.70/30 ap aprc split on ammo.

You have to understand that this is an otherwise stock tank. I decided to mount the Torsion Bars equipment so as to allow me to mount useful things: I already have Vents and a Vertical Stabilizer.

I'm running the 90mm gun, I don't have the 105mm yet, I just unlocked this tank.

Mystarting experience with the T29 was rough, even with the 90mm and knowing weakspots. I got it right after 8.6 and my match making in it has been crazy. I've gotten 75% tier 9 battles in it so far as I estimate. That means get the 105mm ASAP, even using free XP would be my recommendation.

My win rate is horrid in it right now, mainly due to using the 90mm against tier 9's. I did the same as you, moving up the heavy line (never ever get the T29 from the Jumbo, I can only imagine the horrors of using the 76mm...). If I had to start over, I'd get a gold package at the same time as I bought the T29 and free XP everything on it, would've made my starting point much more enjoyable. Now that mine is mostly upgraded (only need the top engine now) its much better, and my win rate will start to improve. I played 4 battles in mine last night and won 3, had been the other way around to start with.

Why on earth did you buy enhanced suspension for it? You don't need the tracks to mount anything so it was kinda pointless to do that.

But anyways, I don't run any APCR on mine, and I run with a rammer, Vert-stab and vents.

Get the gun, the turret, then everything else.

[sarcasm]the stock gun is good[/sarcasm]

[sarcasm]the reload is so fast on the stock gun you don't need a rammer[/sarcasm]

[sarcasm]sarcasm isn't funny most of the time on forums[/sarcasm]

Do whatever you have to do to take the shortest route to the 105. After that, go half and half on your loadout, NO HE. Then you just blaze away.

If the torsion bars are absolutely required for you to be able to mount your current equipment without the upgraded tracks, then I would suggest your other two slots be Rammer and Vert Stabs.

Vents offer a miniscule boost across all abilities, but the bonuses are tiny compared to what Vert Stabs and Rammer can offer to your tank.

Here's a site you should go to in order to see exactly what your tank does given certain elements such as different equipment slots and crew skills:

http://tanknumbers.c...lc.php?tank=T29

Click on that to take you to the T29 loadout, then on the left-hand side, click on "Crew and Equipment" and it should load up a sheet that allows you to see how different layouts effect your tank.

Notice the miniscule bump that Vents give across the board, but then when you stick on the Rammer in its place, your DPM jump up almost 200 damage and your reload timer drops by almost a whole second, as opposed to the 25 damage boost and .1 second drop that the Vents give you.

This is by far one of my favorite sites to use in order to figure out how to best utilize specific tank layouts and to see exactly how much of a benefit I can receive by choosing one equipment slot or skill slot over another.

Hope this helps >^.^<

No HE? Always carry at least a couple HE, even just for cap resets. To reset your don't need to do major damage, just any at all. That's where a few HE are always useful. Just 2 or 3, that's it.

Run Suspension, Rammer and Vert.Stab.

Once you research the upgraded suspension, Rammer, Vert, and Optics or toolbox IMO.

Free XP to elite. Rammer Vstab & GLD or Vents. 60%/40% ammo loadout sounds good. Crew: 6th Sense, Snap Shot, Smooth Ride Repair.

Win.

My T29 carries 5 rounds of HE, 5 rounds of APCR and the rest is AP.  I use VSTAB, Rammer and GLD but since you have the one slot filled, use either the GLD or VSTAB, your choice.  Get the suspension upgrade as soon as possible so you can use that third slot.

Had an absolutely horrible X2 for this tank for today, 450 points after the "Double EXP" effect. I never got a single shot in against any enemy, no spotting damage, nothing. All this because I was running on the stock engine.
Have I ever described how much I hate slow tanks? No? Well, lemme just put it like this: I love my Soviet T-28 medium to death; but I generally don't like driving my KV-1, KV-1S or KV-3. I'm kinda used to how sluggish the IS-6 is, and I'm coming to like the tier 7 IS (though I run that with stock turret and 100mm gun). But this American heavy might give me fits and drive me insane before I can upgrade the engines.
In short, I think I'm going to Free EXP my way out of this one. Unless someone here can convince me not to.

Simple answer: T32 uses the same best gun, and has a very similar play style. You gonna free Xp through that too?

Get out of the US Heavy Tank line then, cause that 35kph is going to be your top speed from here till the 110E5 (37kph).
