Hi guys,
For everyone experiencing problems trying to install the 8.8 manual update, and then having to re-download the whole 5 gig game client after anyway, this might help you. I've seen many posts and questions about this on the forums with no detailed answers. I hope this may help a few people.
So, you download the 8.7 to 8.8 update, and then copy the update into your WOT update folder: Does not work
You then extract the update and copy the contents into your WOT folder, overwrite everything: Does not work
You then get desperate and extract the update in your WOT update folder as well: Does not work
You then start using four letter words: Does not work
You then try re-naming the 8.7 to 8.8 update to .patch, as to change it to a patch file like the other patch files in your updates folder, but it clearly doesn't work as you can still see by the icon that its still a zipped file.
So at the moment you still have WOT version 8.7 and every time you launch it, it wants to start downloading the 1 gig update, even though you've just downloaded it manually.
Try this:
You currently have WOT version 8.7, and have downloaded the 8.8 manual update.
Go to Start - Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Show hidden files and folders, and then make sure there is NO check mark next to "hide extensions for known file types" Click apply and OK (See attached image)
Now rename the 8.7 to 8.8 update you downloaded from, wot_88.3118_87.2912_client.7z or wot_88.3118_87.2912_client.patch.7z to...
A window will pop up asking you if you are sure that you want to rename and change the file extension name as it might become unusable, click yes.
Now put the 8.7 to 8.8 update you have just renamed into your wot update folder. You will now see that the icon now looks the same as the other past updates in the folder, and indeed says .PATCH like the other updates as well.
You may have to overwrite the file as there may be an update there already with the same name.
Run the launcher, WOT will now see that the update it wants to download in now in correct folder and is indeed the correct file, it should now extract it and let you play.
