For instance, I had an enemy target all lined up, pulled the trigger and a team mate pulled in front of me. Fortunately, the round just missed him. But, if it had connected, what's the punishment? Penalty box, what?

Apologize immediately to them. Your name may turn blue if you do enough damage, in that case you'll be fair game to both teams. If you do enough damage in multiple games you'll get a ban for a while.

You can be fined XP and credits for damaging a player on your team. This will be noted in the game stats box at the end of the game.

Also, damage many players and the auto system that WoT uses will pick it up, usually a percentage of team damage compared to actual damage, and could lead to your tank turning blue for a couple of games.

Worse case, if you continue to do team damage, you could possibly have your account suspended for a short time.

You lose money and xp for the damage you did. It is really annoying as arty when you fire then someone decides to jump in front of your shell. The rule of arty goes that you will never penetrate, unless you are hitting an ally.

I don't think I've accidentally shot a teammate for a while now. I HAVE pumped shots into them for being destructive to my play, like pulling up behind me when I'm playing peek-a-boo with an IS-6. Not smart thing to do, but fits of anger gets to me sometimes.

If you do too much team damage, or team damage into cap circle, you will turn blue, and they will incur no penalty from killing you.

I once got shot in the back of the turret by a tank I didn't even know was behind me. Guess what happened next? He and his toonmate said I was the one to blame for the accident!  :teethhappy:
Yeah, cause that seems legit...

here is how I can play out and wot is clueless to know how to fix it.   you ready to snipe  and waiting the circle to aim down when all of a sudden you shoot and one of you team mates run into the line of site like he is running a console game and you take the hit for killing him. your fault?  as far as they see it yes even though the retard was at fault.  don't run in front of you teammates and wot fix it.  I hate everyone else crying and getting somewhere but I along with others get jack yak squeeze.

I just had the exact same thing happen last night, but I was in my T18 with the big gun, and the guy who pulled in front of me was in a tier II light tank, so when I accidentally shot him once, thats all it took and he was dead. But I was actually late getting to my bush , and I was right up against that bush firing at enemy tanks, yet this guy for some reason thought it was a good idea to try and drive by right in front of me at the same exact time I was pulling the trigger on another enemy tank. Its not a good idea to drive right through a bush in front of someone who is camped there shooting enemy tanks!

What happened was on the scoreboard at the top left, they scored me -1 for killing a team mate. in other words, I had to kill 1 enemy tank just to get back to 0, and a second enemy tank to get 1 kill.

you turn blue and feel shame for several days ;)
I've been on both ends and ultimately it amounts to being aware what is going on around you.
In one case, I was zoomed in shooting at enemy, dip behind cover, do it again. Apparently while I was making my 3rd shot, an allied tank came up to my position such that he could get behind me, but more accurately he was parallel to me, so he could also shoot the enemy (with me in between him and the enemy). I failed to notice he had rolled up (I consider that my bad) and as I reloaded fairly quickly, I pull RIGHT in front of his shot when he fired.
The other situation has been me hitting an ally. I was locked on to enemy from about 3-400m away thru a narrow little alley and just as I shot, a friendly raced right in front of my target and took the shot. It sucked, but at least it didnt kill him outright.

Apologize and move on.   If you turned blue, expect to be blown up by your team (with no penalty to them).

Shooting your teammates happens.  Especially in lower tiers, or with auto-cannons, or arty shots/splashes, or with slow moving (howitzer type) shells. Teammates will move to intercept your shell in all these cases. It happens. If it becomes habitual, you may want to see what you are doing wrong before you anger the powers that be.
