Penetration wise, the KwK 36 L/56 isn't the "best" gun for the VK3601 (H). That honor goes to the L/70 75mm. For sheer damage though, yes, but the KwK 36 L/56 will have difficulty penetrating the front of higher tier tanks. The other drawback is that the L/56 only fires 10 rounds a minute, compared to the L/70's 15 rounds a minute.

Use a mixture of HE and AP rounds with either gun, seeing that a majority of the players in WoT have high tier heavies and mediums. Using HE is especially true with the L/56 because of the 132mm penetration.

When I had my VK3601, I never had problems with it catching fire. Instead of the CO2 tanks, use a fire extinguisher.

Every gun has pros and cons. You lose pen with some, but gain with others. You gotta choose your weapon that matches your style.

The difference between the 88 and L70 in DPS is minimal.  The 88 DPS is slightly higher, but the L70 is slightly more accurate and has slightly better penetration.

Also I think you can mount the L70 in the original turret. Which rotates nearly twice as fast as the upgrade turret, but only gives up 10mm of front armor.

I prefer the 88, but you need to find what works better for you, as for CO2 or Toolbox, I prefer the toolbox just because 1) you can take it with you if you sell tank and 2) fire is more uncommon than other damage and you can always buy extinguishers.

EDIT: I was wrong, you can't mount the L70 in the quick turret.  So the 88 is the go.

I used the 88, spall liner, ventilation and gun rammer. I like the 88 a lot more than any other gun available to the VK3601. This is still one of my favorite tanks, I've only liked the T-44 more.

Personally, I can't stand the 88mm. I have tried to like it, many times. Really worked on it, but nope. Can't stand the bloody thing. I stick with the trusty old 105mm. Nothing that can't damaged (almost) with it, and many times one shot kills on the med and low tier opponents. I even snipe with it...hehe...not looong range perhaps, but up to a good medium range you can still do good damage, or more. Just be patient and go for their weak spots. Medium range is perfect for this setup. CCQ is a little harder unless you are really prepared and on top of things thanks to the slower speed and much slower traverse of the turret. I came from the PzIV with it's fantastic 75mm and thought for myself, the 3601H with the 88mm, more of the same but much bigger and better. Well, yeah, the tank is. The gun, not so much. I just hope the late 88mm on the Tiger is better once I get there in a not too distant future.

I run with the rammer (of course, this is a no brainer) + periscope + camouflage net.

What do you guys train your crew in?

If u want to use your VK36 crew in your tiger, take firecombat at first, repair in second choice.
the problem with the 75L70 mounted on VK36 is dmg. This gun is a peashooter. The lack of alphastrike will kill your tank in several occasions. The 88 is less accurate, reload is quite slower but it deal almost twice damage and it's relayy helpfull to finish ASAP an ennemy who can mess your tank.

Periscope = useless, you will lose your view range bonus at the first movement if you want view range boost choose coated optic.
instead camo net I would advise you to take a spall liner or gun laying drive or toolbox if your crew don't have repair skill.

I couldn't stand the 88.  I got to it first in the german td line and it was a big disappointment in the JgdPz IV.  It's hard to justify getting it over the 7.5 L/70, the damage is nice but you actually sacrifice a bit for it.  Haven't even used it with the 3601.  The 7.5 Konisch is a great gun:  great accuracy, high ROF, good Pen, low DMG.  Of course the 10.5 is a photon torpedo launcher that still works well in this tier.
I always use camo net until I get 100 camo skill with my crew, ventilation, gun laying drive or toolbox (usually toolbox replaces camo net).

While I can see why the short 88 can feel a bit underwhelming on a tier 6 TD it really isn't that bad on a tier 6 medium since you can compensate the penetration and accuracy if you make use of the tank's mobility and armor.

This tank is probably one of the best tank in the game. The 88/L56 is a monster of a gun for its tier. It's not the most accurate gun but with your mobility you shouldn't have any problems going up close and flank any heavies and stick one up their ass. I think this tank is what the tiger I should have been (they have the same armor), maybe with a bit less mobility.

Currently I have 100% crew, 2 with camo skills and 3 with repair. I have the vent and rammer and haven't decided which module to put in the 3rd slot (either the gun laying or optic for more view range). IMHO the 88 is not as bad in accuracy as people say. I could still snipe from 300-400 m pretty accurately and the difference in damage between the 88 and 75 is big enough to favor the 88 over 75.

The key to playing this tank is mobility and timing. Try to hang back behind your heavies and once they engage the enemy try to flank and get some side shot on enemy tanks.

Play it right and you'll love this tank :)

It's the T6 medium with the best stats (E8 being the second). Also, drop this camo net. It's a medium, move and shoot things, have fun !
