My scout tanks are almost on their fourth perks and I was thinking about taking this perk.

Now how exactly does the game know which spotted vehicle is your target? Or do you have to use the auto targeting for this to work?

Designated Target... hence the title
All tanks that are within 10 degrees of your reticle

from the wiki:

The Designated Target Perk enables the Gunner to make targeted enemy vehicles within 10 degrees of your reticle remain visible for two more seconds than they normally would remain visible. This Perk works only while in arcade view or sniper view and not in SPG strategic view. However, any allied vehicle will benefit from a team mate's use of this Perk, including SPGs using strategic view. If two Gunners on the vehicle have the Perk, the effect is not cumulative.

Primarily helpful for snipers and in some cases for scouts.

If you are using your scout as a passive scout & don't fire much, this would be the best perk for the gunner.  However, if you flank, shoot & active scout I would suggest:  1.  BOA, 2. Camo, 3. Snap shoot.

Keep your gun aimed at 10 degrees of the tank. I'm pretty sure it's 15 degrees, but it says 10 degrees in the wiki.

Thanks for your info.

Sorry Xiantom, ran out of +1s, lol

I just wanted to know exactly how the perk worked BEFORE I went and got it.

The designated target also works at annoying your teammates with useless spam messages.

So and so is targeting M4 Pantyrobber69 *beep beep*

So and so is targeting Crusader XXx_Knobgobbler_xXX *beep beep*

So and so is targeting Matilda MyCreepyUnclesGravyguzzler *beep beep*

And so on. Unless you are an arty, I don't need to know who you are targeting. And certainly not for whatever tertiary value keeping the target lit for 2 seconds longer brings.

Pick a different skill for your gunner.

Use it on the SU100Y gunner, that extra 2 seconds is very useful for me to shoot at targets.

Right my whole job is spotting targets. I should skip the perk that actually helps me do my job. All based on some claim about message spam, which I have NEVER seen in almost 14k battles.

Then you suggest using it on artillery after other people posted it does NOT work for artillery because it does NOT work in sniper mode.

Shush before I neg rep you :P

*sigh*

Any vehicle can "target" an enemy tank by aiming at it and pressing the correct hot-key. Even arty.

"Designated target" comes into effect AFTER you "target" the enemy tank by pressing the correct hot-key, giving you the 2 second bonus (unless you're arty).

It is a confusing bit of terminology that isn't explained very well by WoT (being the developers don't speak English).

On the battle, it is distracting for your team to constantly hear BoredPeon is targeting vehicle, BoredPeon is targeting vehicle, BoredPeon is targeting vehicle in addition to the guy who keeps pressing "Help", "Help", Help" and dinging random squares on the map.

Just imagine if everyone on the team targeted an enemy vehicle?

With all of this going on, IMPORTANT messages get drowned out. "Hey guys, I'm  pushing the A1 line". "We're flanked, go back to base". "That tier X Td was hiding here last time". See what I mean?

If you're in a scout vehicle, I don't care if you're targeting that enemy tank because I know you're not going to attack him (or if you do, you're dead). The only vehicle on the map that I do care about  who is targeting whom it the arty since it is handy to know if it is pointing on your side of  the map.

It is unfortunate that WoT's game mechanic has that as a feature (not the 2 second extra which is cool) but the spammy nature of alerting everyone on your team who you are "targeting" even when you have no intention of shooting.

Oh, and as one last caveat, I've been gone over the summer and just got back a couple of weeks ago. If WoT actually fixed Designated Target to make it less spammy, I stand very humbly corrected.

Holy crap dude, did you even read this topic?

If actually read the topic you would know to go brush your teeth because it kinda smells from talking out your exit hole.

You are talking about pressing the T button for calling fore fire or if you are arty then saying you are attacking that target. That has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this topic.

I warned you about shushing. Hope you like seeing red.
