Thanks for the Port info and other performance tips. The only thing im stuck at is
"Please open the directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" (Windows XP) or open the directory "c:\Windows\winsxs\" and search for "hosts" (Windows Vista/7), choose the "hosts" file, open it with the notepad and type manually: 174.34.231.143 login-master.worldoftanks.com"
I have permissions issues in saving the file after the edit.
I have tried changing permissions as the following link suggests : http://www.w7forums....ler-t11424.html
but it pops up an error. still saying access denied.
Is there anyone who could walk through it? I think I may be trying a complicated solution for a simple problem.
Do you have problems getting the game installed? Or, maybe you have the game installed, but the launcher does nothing. Maybe you get the picture of gears turning without ever getting into your garage. Ping stays at 999? If so, try these things out first.
Update your drivers
If the game crashes in the garage, or in one guy's case, when you select email or password box at the title screen, then you might need to update your drivers. You might even get a small FPS boost even if you are playing just fine right now. Thankfully, merig00 has already done most of the work for me. Thanks merig00!
Ports
So, you are having trouble connecting. Maybe your ping jumps to 999. Maybe you get gears spinning and nothing else. This should help you out. Also, some of you other guys might get a lower ping and less lag by doing this. The community has helped a lot with what ports to open, but Vallter from tech support gave these ports and IP addresses. So thanks to you as well Vallter!
Spoiler
Open up your ports. If you aren't sure how to do it, you can go to http://portforward.com/. They have guides for almost any router or firewall out there. Just pick your particular router and follow their instructions. Just be sure to make a backup of your router's config file before you begin.
UDP range 3478, 3479, 5060, 5062, 12000-29999 and 32800-32901Allow WorldOfTanks.exe to use UDP and TCP protocols.As well as IPs: 174.34.231.0-174.34.231.255
If you use Proxifier, please open the following ports: 3128,80,8080,20000-25000,32801,32803, and crucially - 443. Please open the directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" (Windows XP) or open the directory "c:\Windows\winsxs\" and search for "hosts" (Windows Vista/7), choose the "hosts" file, open it with the notepad and type manually: 174.34.231.143 login-master.worldoftanks.com
Performance
Okay. You have the game installed and its connecting fine, but its unplayable. You are getting 2 FPS!? Don't uninstall yet!! There are many things you can do. This game is fun for the gameplay, the graphics is just pretty stuff. Turn them down and enjoy a really fun, albeit less pretty now, game.
Spoiler
First, turneverything all the way down in the settings menu. If you are happywith the FPS, keep bumping up what you like to be pretty until your FPS dropstoo low for you to enjoy. Then you bump it back down onenotch. Just remember, your FPS will be better when less action isgoing on or you are scoped in (fix for that, but that islater). This process will take a while, but will get you where youneed to be.
So, either you are looking for a little more FPS,or setting everything to minimum still has you at 5 FPS. Try thesethings that merig00 suggested. They may or may not beoutdated. Someone let me know if you know for sure. And,thanks again merig00! http://forum.worldof...e__hl__graphics
Another HUGE boost for a lot of people has beenthe smaller packs. Your game will get progressively more like anSNES title, but your FPS will skyrocket! SiberianExpress hastranslated Minoson's compressed packs. These guys have really helpedout a lot for the guys on laptops or older computers. ThanksSiberianExpress and Minoson! http://forum.worldof...-pack-and-more/
You can set the core affinityso World of Tanks uses something other than the main core. I havefound that this only marginally helps me, but YMMV. (BTW I personally run mineon core 2 or 3. My first 2 cores are used by other programs.) Go to the task manager(Ctrl + Alt + Del for Windows XP and Vista, Ctrl + Shift + Esc forWindows 7) and under the processes tab, right click worldoftanks.exe Click on set affinity Uncheck the first core (or2). Thats it.
And finally the FPS boost that some people areraving about. Thanks garyoppolis! http://forum.worldof...opsolder-comps/
Special note for laptop users
Most laptops do not have dedicated graphics cards. Those that do, usually do the same thing with memory. Either way, it is likely that the video memory is shared with your system. You may be able to get some more out of your graphics card or chipset if you change how much memory is for graphics in your BIOS. Unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing in BIOS, I would not recommend this. However, if you feel comfortable and promise not to hold me responsible in any way, max out what your BIOS will let you allocate to your video card / chipset as long as you have enough RAM left for your OS (usually 2 GBs for Windows 7, 1 GB for other Windows OSs).
Installation
I know this should be first, but seems to be less likely than the rest. Plus with all the spoiler tags, you didn't have to read too far. Suck it up. If you have problems installing or running the game, here are a few suggestions.
Spoiler
If you are using chrome, especially on a a 64bit system, it sometimes corrupts downloads. I love chrome to death and use it almost exclusively, but if it is something important I need to download, I will fire up the old Firefox. Also, if you have only downloaded it once, try downloading it again. I know its a hassle, but computers aren't perfect. Corruption happens. (Wasn't that on a T-shirt or something?)
Next, make sure you are running the installer as administrator.
Windows XP
login to the administrator account, or someone with administrator privileges. Or
Hold shift and right click the installer exe and select run as and pick a user with administrator privileges and password. Or
Go to run box in the start menu and type runas /user:usernamecmd (Replace username with a user with administrator privileges and cmd with the installer's path and filename)
Windows Vista / 7
Right click on installer file and choose "Run as administrator". Or
Hold Ctrl + Shift keys while opening the program.
Alright everything is installed, but the launcher never does anything when you hit play. What now?
You can launch the game directly and see if that helps. Everyone had to do this for a few days last fall. Just search for WorldOfTanks.exe and run that.
If that doesn't work, try updating drivers (Thats why they are at the top) as it is the problem I have seen the most of on the forums.
What now?
So, you have done all of these things and you are still stuck. It could be a lot of things. You could have a computer that just can't play this game. Maybe your specs are too low. Maybe it is something you are going to facepalm over. Any way you look at it, you need to post for help on the forums. But before you do that, you need to get some information ready.

Get a dxdiag printout.
Under the start bar, click on run. Type dxdiag and hit enter. On the first page that is up choose "Save All Information...". Then either attach that file to your post when you make it, or better yet, copy and paste it with a spoiler tag. Highlight what you just pasted. Click on Other styles in the post editor. Select Spoiler. Then click Add. It will make it a lot easier for other people who care about the comments and not so much about your info.
Be friendly in your post and be very specific about your problem
When it happens. (Laucher, garage, game)
List all errors word for word
If you don't speak english very well, you proper grammar and spelling in your own language and run it through a translator (http://translate.google.com/#). This will usually get your message through clearer. Don't forget to to mention you don't speak english very well and people will usually go the extra step to use simpler words that translate better.
After you post, don't just go off and do something else. Check your post. People are pretty quick to help. They might need some more information from you. If they wait for a little while and you don't get back to them, they usually forget about you and move on.
If all this doesn't work, use technical support. http://support.worldoftanks.com/
I personally haven't used them, or know of anyone that has, but they pop in the forums from time to time and seem very knowledgeable.
Again, thanks goes out to all the helpful people on the forums. I tried to mention names where credit is due. If you know of any more good tips or guides that fit in with this post, feel free to list them below and I will add it, credit them and the referrer. Mods, feel free to edit this post or move it as you see fit. I am online a lot, but never know when I will have to be gone for months at a time. I would hate to see good information not get included.
Thanks a ton! I had an issure with my launcher where i had to update WoT externally, and the Port Forwarding method fixed it! Thanks
why in the middle of a battle or anywhere, for that fact, all of a sudden on the top it says W.oT.Client(Not responding) Why does it do that? It also for some weird reason just quits for no good fricking reason. Could you help me out?
