I love watching these videos. It would be so cool to go inside one of these tanks.

Its funny how he couldn't get in the driver's seat. I bet The Chieftain doesn't want to drive an IS4.

Nice video, very good series, keep them coming!
Soviet designs of the era share the driver compartment issues(among others). Tankers were expendable just like their tanks, resources to a war.

I was getting claustrophobic just watching the Chief in that drivers seat!   Hey Chief...I'm picking up a slight 'British Isles/Irish' accent in your voice...? Spend any time there...in your youth..?
Nice video...thanks for that, and keep'em coming!

I really enjoy watching these videos, i am highly intrigued on how these tanks really worked in real life. If i ever were to be a tanker, i wouldn't want to be the driver (That rhymes haha.) Its too hard to get out.

No wonder why they stopped building IS-4s. Not sure if even the entire soviet union had that many midgets to drive them...

Hey Chief, sorry if it's an ignorant question (in case they haven't survived nowadays), but any SLIGHT chance you could do a video like this about the experimental US heavy tanks? I'm REALLY interested into the T32. Would be good for you for a change, as it has American Superior Comfort™

unfortunately, Chieftain has stated before that no T32's survived to the present day, but there are relatively lots of the T29 series lying around in various states of disrepair. AFAIK there is a T95/96 sitting in some display lot somewhere.

Similarly got claustrophobia with the driver compartment. As with the Maus, kind of a shame to see the disrepair, but at least its indoor, unlike the T29 etc. in the US.

If I remember correctly most Soviet tankers were not very tall. I heard the tallest was about 5'5".

Btw, should we hope for a Tiger or an ISU any time soon?

Yep. Actually, a man should (and the situation is similar now AFAIK) have small enough height to join tank forces.

5'5" is overstating it somewhat, I fit as well as can be expected in an armoured vehicle in the RU tanks I've been in and I'm 5'10"-11"ish. That master power switch is a neat little thing, it's used on BTR-60 and BRDM-1 as well. Very pleasingly russian, turning power on takes a concerted effort but it cuts power with a satisfying thunk

Now feel kind of bad shooting the IS-4 in the drivers slot, that poor guy had suffered enough.
