This thread is for the dedicated.  For the brave.  For the iron-willed souls who dare to conquer the month-long tier VI grind with a free IS-6 at the end of the rainbow.  And most importantly, this thread is dedicated to those who would rather sit inside and play WoT than go out and try to mow lawns in the middle of the winter.

If you aren't attempting this mission, or trying to encourage others that are - I kindly ask that you please do not post in here.

Mission details:  http://worldoftanks.com/en/news/22/holiday-specials-2013/#3

This mission will require a lot of your time.  Thanks to Flashram for a good breakdown here.  Please check your stats and understand what this will require of you before you get started.  For example, I average about 770 xp in my Hellcat and SU-100, they are two of my better tanks, for some of the others I'm assuming I will average closer to 500xp.  For me that means between 1100 and 1200 battles in tier 6 tanks over the next month.  Over the past 30 days I have played about 1200 battles, so this is within the realm of possibility for me.  If you are going to have to play 2 or more times as many battles this month as you have the previous month, then you might want to think twice about attempting this challenge.

Just a reminder for those of you that already have an IS-6 and are still doing this challenge - if you are close to finishing, WAIT!  You don't want to finish while the IS-6 is on sale and get less equivalent gold - wait until after the 8th.

All right, I'll go first......

My plan:

I currently have the Hellcat, SU-100, and AMX 12t in my garage.  Hellcat is elite with a 3-skill crew, SU-100 has all guns and a 2 skill crew, and AMX is stock with a 75% crew.  I will start by playing these 3 tanks until I have enough free xp to unlock the AT 8 (need about 5000 xp), the Nashorn (need about 8,000), Type 58 (need 20,000), and the Japanese line (at least 50,000 for tanks alone, not yet sure of required modules yet).  I don't think I have enough free xp to get through the entire Japanese line, but I have about 60k I can convert if I decide it is worth spending 2,400 gold converting to earn 11,800 gold completing this mission (I already have an IS-6).

My progress thus far (update 1/9):

American line: 100,000 / 100,000

USSR line: 100,000 / 100,000

French line: 100,000 / 100.000

German line: 100,000 / 100,000

British line: 100,000 / 100,000

Chinese line: 100,000 / 100,000

Japanese line: 100,000 / 100.000

Total: 700,000 / 700,000

I'll continue to update my progress as the mission goes on, and encourage others to post their progress as well.

Remember, this game is meant to be fun.  If this sounds like work, if it sounds like a chore, if it sounds like too much of a grind - DON'T DO IT!  It's the holidays, if this challenge is going to cause you to spend time playing tanks that should be spent with your family - DON'T DO IT!  But if you don't have anything better to do, join me.  Let's do this.

Good luck.  Happy tanking.  Have fun!

Congratulations to those who have completed the challenge:

Spoiler

:honoring:

Get a job, go outside. Spend 3 or 4 hours working and just buy it... Even 3 days of prem isn't worth having to grind 100k exp.  on tier 6.

Why someone would grind tier 6 for hours probably weeks to get the IS-6 is beyond my comprehension.  I can work for just over an hour and buy the damn thing rather then spend that much time in my life that I would never get back, only to get a free tank.

War gaming this is one of the stupidest missions you have listed to date!  You truly must think that your player base is retarded.

Finally. I figured we'd need a dedicated "support group" thread. Good place to get tips and advice.

I am tempted to just play my tier sixes over the holidays and see how close I get without really trying.  As if I need to prove to myself that I have no life.

My tanks of choice (moreso meaning tanks I'll end up driving to get through anyway):

59-16

T21 only on doubles

darn france I hate you die in a fire you ruined my chances or 12t if I end up grinding that line

and the tanks I will actually enjoy:

Hellcat

KV-1S

VK 28.01

possibly nashorn if I get over my stupidly OP tier 5 toaster

Am I a masochist with that many scouts on my lineup?

You think this was by accident? WG would never offer an easy to get $50 tank. It's by design. They don't want more than a small minority completing the mission.

Besides, why spend all that time grinding credits and XP for tanks that could get nerfed when you can buy gold and credits equal to far fewer work hours of pay? Same principle in effect. You're playing a game you enjoy and getting rewarded in the process. I have a feeling some players will just see the mission as nothing out of the ordinary for the time required, but I'm not one of them.

Still at work (and yes, I have a job and I will attempt the mission, 'cause accomplishing missions is cool), so I have a question:

- Does xp count on only 1 tank, or does it stack up from multiple tier 6 tanks from the same nation. In other words, if I run doubles on my Nashorn, Vk 3002M and VK 3601, will all of the xp count towards the mission for Germany?

If so, my strategy would be to finish the mission for Germany and the Soviet Union first, so that I can get those days of premium to help with the other nations, where I will have a single tier 6 tank.

This is a real challenge quite possibly not doable for most. Its going to be tough especially for my harder to love tanks like the type 58.

I can assure you WG doesn't give a shit if you & many other noobs don't complete the mission...its OPTIONAL and designed to make you happy if you would really want an IS-6

OP  -- you're either crazy or a masochist. Or your days are 100 hours long (mine are 24).

Best of luck though.

This really isn't all that difficult. With daily x2, x3, x5. Plus the three days of all battles x2exp. Seriously not going to take as much effort as people think. I'll be doing it and will try to remember to post my update logs as I go. Also, I'm married, have three kids and a fourth on the way. I support my family myself and enable my wife to be stay at home mom. So obviously I work... 55 hours a week actually. So, if I'm able to do it then so should everyone else for the most part. There's always exceptions.

So far I've got:

USSR:       5107/100k

Germany:  7271/100k

US:            4770/100k

France:     3088/100k

Britain:      5521/100k

China:       4269/100k

Japan:       0000/100k

All Total:    30026/700,000

Avg/Day:    30026

On Pace to complete 700k in roughly 23.3 days
