Tier 4: the German premium tank, limited MM

Tier 5: KV-1, good gun selection and useable armor trumps speed, especially at this tier

Tier 6: KV-1S, and M6 are both good choices, and the American heavy line is actually viable at Tier 10

Tier 7: T29 and the new Tiger I

Tier 8: 110, IS-3, T-32. All the T8 prems are fabulous at making money, though the FCM is probably best at that given the limited MM and useable silver round

Tier 9: E-75 is the best overall, the Conq, M103, and WZ are all good too

I think a list of tanks to AVOID might be more useful:

T9: VK4502 ausf B, IS-8, ST-I

T8: KV-4

T7: none really, they're all semi-useful except maybe the Black Prince

T6: T-150

Basically, avoid the IS-4 line.

Wait a minute... why is the IS-3 so popular? Its a very clear downgrade from the 110 amongst other things.

For tier 10: If you want a heavy, you have three options:

1. Defensive heavy, i.e. the traditional "tanking" heavy that soaks fire and attention. In that case, go with the E-100. The best effective armor on the front and sides, with the exception of the lower frontal plate. Good alpha/DPM. Excellent at side-scraping. The Maus has worse armor and a horrible gun, and anything else has shitty side armor.

2. Offensive heavy, i.e. leading a push or holding a choke point at the front while also contributing good damage. Choose a T110E4, it has over twice the alpha and similar speed/armor compared to the next choice, the T110E5. The IS-7/IS-4/215b/113 are all inferior in most practical situations. The T57/50b are fabulous support tank, but you can't take any shots or put out continuous suppressive firepower. Plus the 57 is slow.

3. Fast heavy, which is really a special category for the 50M, and it trades staying power for speed. As you can see, the only actual heavy that performs the best in one of these given roles is the E-100. The E4 basically outdoes the E5, and the rest are worse than that. Welcome to World of TDs.

Please explain why you put the ST-I on your 'to avoid-list'. I don't have that tank but i know it has a really good gun with very high penetration (esp. gold but also ap). Its armor is among the best in tier IX and it still doesn't appear exeptionally slow.

It is really slow, which means it is inflexible and is an arty magnet.

I will never understand the near-obsessive worship of the KV-1 and KV-1S. I love my 1S and don't want it touched, but neither is the best heavy in their tiers. People are simply drinking the Kool-Aid and asking for seconds.

No one understands your obsesion with the T1 and M6...

I think that this poll is unbalanced just by the fact that people think the russians are the best in the game when they are clearly not.  For example; Tier 5- Kv-1 is best?  How so?  Church, Vk, and t1 can all rape the kv-1 if they are fully upgrade because of their fire rate, the kv-1's 122 or 85 is not gonna matter if you got a church or t1 heavy that know where to shoot.  Tier 6-Ya the kv-1s has the "big" 122 but that doesn't matter if you have any tier 6 shooting at it because of their faster reload.  Tier 7-Depends on how you play because the IS and t29 can be the best if they know how to go hull down and angle.  That is an example of the inaccuracy of the poll.

it is difficult to say on lots of these.  I haven't played most of the stuff in a long time, grind and gone.  I have gold tanks at tier 8 that are my money makers, well I kept my AMX 50 100 because it is the Fonz.

Poll flawed.  Doesn't include Matilda at tier 4. :-P. Haven't played enough higher tiers to say, but at t5 kv-1 is a solid all arounder with workable armor on front, sides, and turret. Churchill with top gun is dangerous, but earlier guns range from sad to meh. T1 is a beast if you can avoid being flanked though the gun seems underwhelming at times, perhaps due to less accuracy and rof than on the t49/m10.  BDR and vk don't seem to compete as closely, but aren't horrible. Tbh, t5 heavies seem pretty well balanced with strengths and weaknesses.

High rof and dpm on paper doesn't mean that you're actually able to make use of it. Most tanks only leave their cover to shoot the rest of the time their oponents high dpm means nothing. it's not like a kv-1s will face a churchill VII head on where it can fully utilize it's firepower in a realistic combat situation.

Let's say the churchill manages to shoot twice while the kv-1s is out of his cover to shoot thats still 2x140dmg vs 1x390dmg (plus the churchill must penetrate with both shots while the kv-1s driver only has to make sure that his one shot penetrates.)

No one thinks the Russians completely dominate the poll.  They only win out in 5, 6, and 8.  In tier 8 there's a lot of close choices too, so while the IS-3's good at everything status made it the popular choice, the high number of votes for the others shows it's not actually that clear-cut.  The IS-3 is no match for a T32 that can work terrain, no match to 50-100's bursting prowess, not as capable a sniper as the KT, and not as armored as the 110 - but the IS-3 is mobile, hits hard, and doesn't have any notable weaknesses, thus it is chosen as the best tier 8 heavy.  Tier 5 KV-1 is by far the most armored that can actually bounce a lot of Churchill and T1 shots, and it does hit hard.  The KV-1 doesn't really need to aim against the Churchill or the T1, yet those 2 tanks need to aim against the KV-1.  The KV-1 eats shots like crazy in tier 3-5 matches, especially considering that half the player base in mid-tiers have no clue how to shoot KV-1s.  I don't care how fast firing you are, when the KV-1S can pop half your health in one shot you're not going to make up that difference.  Smart KV-1S players don't let you return more than 1 shot anyways, and it's faster than all other tier 6 heavies so it can dictate the flow of the battle.  I rarely seen a player harping about "you can out DPM it" actually do more damage in a DPM tier 6 tank vs. another similar level player playing a KV-1S.  I don't know what you are talking about an IS hulldowning, or angling, since it's not going to be very effective the way a T29 is.  The IS isn't bad, but the things that made the KV-1S great isn't as amazing in tier 7 when the alpha-HP ratio changed.  T29s simply has the highest carrying ability simply because of its usable armor and respectable firepower.  The Tiger I is close because it has almost TD class firepower with nearly twice the HP of an average tier 7 TD.

There's nothing inaccurate about the poll.  It's just a popularity contest of what the general player base thinks.

British HT's at tier 5 & 6 are sub-par I'll give ya that but you still want them leading pushes when appropriate. The British line begins to shine with the BP and they excel at leading pushes when given support. The Tier 8 Caernarvon at stock is the worst thing I have ever driven but I hear it gets better.

The Tiger I line is also pretty good in my experience.

Those are the only two HT lines I have gone down so far.

4) only played the B1, PoS.

5, 6, and 7) all great heavies (no comment on VK3001H or VK3601H), well balanced in respect to each other in-tier.

tier 6 and 7 are VERY hard for me to pin down but here goes.

tier 5, I vote the KV1 narrowly edging out the T1, and BDR, but the church is too situational in my eyes. Churchill. ranking these tanks, Churchill < BDR =T1 = KV1

have played all 4 of these, loved them all.

tier 6, I voted the M6 as that's the only one I have played as a heavy other than the KV2 and Church 7. VK3601 was sold right as it turned into a heavy. KV2 is just for the s***s and giggles. Church 7 is too slow and situational.

tier 7, only played the Tiger, IS, KV3, closing in on the T29 now. I withhold choosing a winner.

8) KT or IS3, again, only ones I have played, so cant comment on the others. from others comments, a lot of these are excellent as well.

9) E75. even with the 105mm, this thing is EPIC. but see above: though I chose the E75, the other tier 9 heavies are still forces to be reckoned with.

10) no comment.

My choices-

4) Neither

5) KV-1

6) KV-1S

7) T29

8) AMX50-100

9) E-75

10) T57

I didn't include premiums as the limited MM makes them more an apple to oranges deal. Both Tier 4 heavies are awful and should be avoided. Tier 5 is dominated by the KV-1, with the T1 as an honorable mention. Tier 6 is dominated by the KV-1S and the 122mm doom cannon. Tier 7 is dominated by the hull down T29, which at that Tier has a very good gun and (imo) trollish hull armor that still bounces stuff.

Tier 8 is when there finally isn't a clear winner. I picked the 50-100 for the autoloader & its dumping, but TBH almost every Tier 8 heavy is a good tank and has something to offer. Personally I dislike the VK and the KV4.

Tier 9 is another Tier with plentiful selections. I picked the E-75 for its excellent armor and my familiarity with it, but I hear the WZ-111 is devastating. I also really enjoyed the M103 and Conquerer. I find the 50-120 to be a bit big/slow for my liking and the ST-I to be too slow.

Tier 10 I have no comment on. Conventional logic says the T57 or E100, but most of the Tier 10's have positive attributes and it really boils down to the driver.

Everyone seems to think the T29 is still the king of tier 7, but the new Tiger I is probably better.
