This is a post in a series of posts different facts about the game.  Here is a link to the "table of contents" of the series: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/337049-sask-outriders-want-to-win-more-series/

I compared what I spend on World of Tanks in a month with other entertainment options I enjoy.  I will be going into where gold should be used later in this series.

First off.  If you do not consider world of tanks entertainment then you should probably quit the game.

I spend about $50 on this game a month.  I play for approximately 2 hours a day give or take which means I am getting approximately 60 hours of entertainment for my $50 or $0.83 per hour.

Now lets compare this to other forms of entertainment:

  • Skiing - I think I lift ticket goes for around $50 to $100 per day which is approximately $6.25 to $12.50 per hour.
  • Airsoft - Not including the thousands of dollars I own in equipment a day will cost me $30 which is $3.75 per hour.
  • Movie - A movie from where I am from costs about $15 if I don't buy popcorn or take my wife which is about $7.50 per hour.

So from my point of view World of Tanks is a very cheep form of entertainment which I have the ability to do anytime I want.

Has anybody else looked at paying to play in this way?

Well, add in internet costs, electricity, and the computer costs, it will add up to be a bit more, but still, incredibly cheap entertainment.

I spend about the same  $ month for WoT.  When compared to the rest of my hobbies, and the things I like to do, it is relatively cheap entertainment.

Not too long ago, you bought a game for $50, installed, and then played it for 2 years not paying a penny more.

That was then this is now.

Don't get me wrong, I give as little money to our overlords in Minsk as possible.  However, playing without a premium account or sometimes freeing up XP is just too painful.

Never mind just spending some real money to upgrade my computer after having persevered for far too long with a mediocre video card.

Hey bud sorry to burst your bubble but this is a free to play game. Why should you waste money on something you get no benefit out of? Now I bought a couple tanks when I started as money makers but that is it.

His benefit is entertainment to be fair. How much money do you spend on your pay television service or your smart phone (if you have one). If he values the entertainment gained from the game then the price he is willing to pay is not a waste to him.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but spending money on premium yields lots of benefits in this game.

Correct but I just don't understand spending hundreds of dollars on an internet game(luckly he only spends $50) sorry I just don't understand it.

But just because you dont understand it does not make it wrong or a waste. To me gambling is a waste of money, to some smoking is. However if you find joy in something, what price is too high for something you find fun?

I haven't tracked my costs but off the cuff I think it probably averages out to that.    I use it for Free XP to get tanks I find interesting without having to play the others int he line (Like the AT2)  I also use Free XP to get my Equipment upgraded faster.  Yeah Id probably be a better player if I spent time grinding on each tank but then Id have gotten bored and quit playing.  So I have something like 75 tanks and I get to have a large variety of game play.  and oh yeah I defintiely reccomend a premium accout.

Keep in mind when you bought the game for $50 you did not have the all the wonderful people to play with and against.

Effectively you were playing with yourself.

Entertainment is entertainment, be it computer games, or drinking or going to NASCAR evens to Concerts....On a Dollar Cost Average basis over time computer gaming is cheap.

I spent more money on this game when I was grinding a lot of high-tier tanks at once, and I was converting a lot of free XP.  Now that I've run all of those lines up to tier 10 and started just a small number of new ones, I'm spending money far more slowly, and I'm taking my time grinding new lines because I've gotten over the feeling of wanting to move up quickly.  Thanks to my rather profitable IS-6 and KV-2, I also have 25 million credits sitting around, so the benefit of a premium account is somewhat academic at this point.

Last year, I spent $5000 on a fishing trip.  News flash: some people don't mind spending money for entertainment.

The money spent by players in this game boils down to profit for WG which correlates to their ability to improve WOT for the entire community.  Free to play yes, but all of us who choose to purchase added content do so in the enjoyment of the game.  To each their own I guess, just don't troll those who wish to get what they want out of this game.  After all this is a game and we all play for the enjoyment of blasting tanks.  GLHF!
