I've played Wow, Guild Wars, and Rift. WoT is the only place where i read people saying "derp" frequently. What does it mean? Is it some new thing the kiddies say to be cool? Thanks.

more than likely referring to the powerful guns on a few vehicles...the large howitzer (152mm?) on the KV is referred to as the derp gun or lol cannon.

This is an Eve Term from Eve-Online. What it means is you have the Big Gun that is overpowered for the tank. There are a few that just really do some major damage. I think the Top Gun on the KV and the IS come to mind.

It also mean expressing a stupid response after doing something stupid.
Derp is similar to "D'oh" from the Simpson as D'oh is to indicate that Homer did something stupid. Derp literally means the same thing.
Usually, it's called a "Derp" gun simply because a tank gets an OP gun (Very big gun)

The 75mm gun on the M2 and M5 counts as a derp gun as well. The KV's 152mm gun is a good example. The Sherman's 105mm and the M7's 75mm guns are lol cannons, too. Those guns dish out a lot of damage, as long as they don't miss, which they do a lot. I think the whole Bison might count as a derp gun/ lol cannon.

Derp is slang for "Retard".
It's a variation of "Herp Derp" or "Hurr Durr", which is (according to them)the only thing a mentally retarded person can say.
I wish the dumbasses would stop using it.
I don't give a shit if the term has new meaning.

I am so glad you aaked that question! I have been playing now for about 2 months, had never heard the term before, and was too shy about asking what it meant for fear of being ridiculed for not knowing. Thanks.

It actually comes from South Park, describing Rob Schneiders comedies, ie. 'something so unbearably, idiotically, painstakingly stupid that there are no words.' It starts with a running gag of fictional comidies ala 'The Animal'-
Rob Schneider is... a carrot!
Rob Schneider is... a stapler!

There you go, guys.

In game it's about the large caliber howitzer that some tanks get, which are only useful with HE shells. No idea how it came to be tho'.

It's a combination of fear and loathing...you kill me with that 152mm HE howitzer (that I didn't realize hit so hard) so it must be overpowered, and you must be a retard for using it. You become a 'derp' and that cannon is a 'derp gun'.
The implication is that it takes no skill to win with it (except of course it has awful accuracy, it reloads 5x slower than everything else in its tier, which means if you miss you die while waiting for the reload).
Same for the 105mm on the Hetzer, etc.

as many others have said, it basically means a short barreled, possibly inaccurate cannon that has a good chance of dealing 1shot kills. Guns such as the m2 medium's howitzer, the hetzer's 10.5 cm StuH, or pretty much anything loaded onto the kv line that isn't stock.
i think there is also a clan dedicated to the kv's lol.

I'm old school, for me there is only one, the 152mm for the KV, even I laugh when that kills me, because I know just how long the other guy had to wait to take that shot!

Derp guns are guns like the short 75mm, 76mm, 105s, and 152 on the KV that dish out damage way out of proportion to the tier.

Any howizter that uses HE for damage far beyond what tanks in its tier are capable of. (Ie: Kv 152mm, sherman and hezter/stug 105mm, su-152's stock gun, m2 75mm)
