I'm working towards the leopard and not to long ago bought a luchs. Its a nightmare to get experiance for. I haven't killed a single tank with it and I die pretty much immediately upon contact with pretty much any enemy. Even with suspension, engine, turret and gun upgrades its still totally useless. >:( I'm trying to build enough experience to get its final gun upgrade, please tell me that one actually can do some damage. My current one(flak cannon) is so useless I could go into battle with no ammo and do just as good. :/

Sir! how dare you insult one of my favorite tank  :Smile-izmena:

But honestly, if you're not having fun with the Luchs, stop now you will not like the Leo.

Actually, get a Leopard. But then again matchmaking hates it.

oh! blashemy!

haha

i do feel your pain, it does feel abit paperlight some times, however fully upgraded its lovely. (had an elite luchs in beta and working my to it agian)
and yes the last gun upgrade will allow you start getting you own back.

also be carefull how you use it, i used to charge off trying to use it as light tank but against some of the tanks nought was happening, try to stay close to other tanks especaily medium tanks, or try to spot for your TDS and spgs. of course the flaw in that is reling on your team mates to work with you.

and of course use the terrain to your benefit and speed, you can run circles around most other tanks.

Your doing it wrong. :)
The Luchs is a great tank, but it is a light tank and now you'll be playing with "real" tanks, most of which will be able to swat you away with 2-3 shots.
How are you playing with the tank? Rushing? Camping?
I echo with other comments, you may want to select a different tree, light tank scouting may not be for you

Bought the final gun still felt it was completely useless so I sold it, using the money to buy a Marder II. maybe I'll come back and try it again some day. I tried a lot of stratagies with it, camping, rushing to spot for arty, sticking with bigger tanks and every single time it ended with me dying. When camping I did so little damage that they didn't bother running just stopping in their tracks aiming at me and killing me in 2-3 shots. Rushing I wasn't fast enough to out run turrets swiveling so I just got nailed from the side and died faster, often having me tracks shot out. When I spotted for arty I died the second I came across the enemy, often times getting killed by the very arty I was trying to uncover. When I worked with bigger tanks it seemed like groups we came across focused on me first to get some easy points. :/

This is an insult.  The Luchs is mighter than the King Tiger!  I mean I knocked a King Tiger down to 60% before with a Luchs, and he wasted 30,000 worth of shells trying to hit my tiny chibi tank at a full rush, and then ring around the Tiger moment.  A Benny Hill theme music moment would of fit well when I took on a Tiger II on training mode... it was just so funny, definitely after I ran out of shells and made a dash for their flag, and dodged 8.8cm shells for a while as he slowly came after me.   I have so many Luchs war stories which make me smile and only for the short time I've been playing WoTs.  My greatest joy is many more future stories to be made.

My greatest joy on this game has been using the Luchs, not for it's epicness but the thrill and joy knowing half the time you will... always be out gunned, and out armored....    :Smile_harp:

Kinda like on Navyfield using a FFX Frigate in a Gun fight vs DDX and Z99 destroyers, they had 2-3 times your firepower and almost twice the HP.  You had to be leet to beat them... and so many Z99/DDX fell to my FFX frigate.   So good with the FFX I'd take on Light Cruisers and even Heavy/Battle Cruisers.  I had no fear!!!  With every light cruiser/battle cruiser kill marker on my crews record, I felt a bit of pride, definitely since I used NO torpedos... only cowards use torpedos.  B)

After I got my Luchs I played only for a few hours and I have almost everything fully upgraded but the radios.  Been working at the radios for a while almost have the final radio, but my PzIIIA distracts me at the moment for the few hours I have available to play, no hours today sadly.  xD

I just had a good game with the luchs. I only have the 5cm gun, the turret needed for it, and the better suspension. I got 4 kills with it and I was the last tank alive. I did not like it at first since I could do nothing with it, I was just saving up the credits for the leopard, but once I got those few upgrades, I fell in love. So well I was thinking of even buying all the other upgrades for it. But I cannot wait for the leopard, so I will try and hold myself back.

Leopard is great though personally the Luchs is just all around more fun, you're less likely to run into enemies whom are indistructable vs your gun with the Luchs.  Leopard can be a nightmare, if not useless when you get into battles too high in the tier ladder for it.

To be honest i ended up going TD too, i preferred the game play a lot more. But every now and then i jumped in the luchs and had fun.
tactics wise, during my limited experience with the luchs during OB, rushing nor camping is the thing to do, (which is what i was guessing you were doing, because that was the first thing i did) you basically protect arty then mid game scouting to the enemy camp to destroy arty, at least thats i found worked. Granted i still wasn't getting great scores, but some of my most trilling memories were running behind enemy lines mid game.

Luchs is a Porche 911 of tanks. manouverable, speedy and fun to drive.

Load 50-50 AP and HE, do module damage to stuff you cant pen, make a T6 rage when you light him on fire and 1 shot him with a 50mm, and profit.

I like the luchs better than the leopard in several ways, but I like the leopard better than the luchs in others.

Luchs is a fast tank that can turn on a dime, but has very weak tracks and slow turret traverse times.

With a 5cm, you can crush most light tanks and even some lower tier TDs head on (I've killed 3 marder IIs head on with one, abiet they missing most their shots)

Just rush in and keep moving thats whats going to increase its survivability. Or, sit far back and snipe with the 5cm (although it wont work the best.)

Luch is my favorite tank and I get plenty kills in it.  I think the reason some folks have hard time in it is due to not having fully trained crew, not fully researched tank, and not using proper tactics.  I use mine as a scout/ambusher for other light tanks and spg's mainly or operate in a pack with other scouts/medium tanks to run interference.  Also if you look at the stealth values Luch is the best "hiding" light tank.  If equiped with cammo and binos/optics its a very good scout.

I had 187 battles with a 54% win rate in beta so it's not that bad. If you hate the Luchs you'll really not like the Leo simply because of the matchmaking and these tanks being dedicated scout vehicles.

Nothing worse than a scout vehicle which won't scout. Look at the Russian Heavy and the Scout hiding in the bushes holding hands and making plans.

should we fully upgrade the Luchs or is some of the other equipment better?

Fixed that's for ya lol! (but honestly, there's something really telling about the sheer number of people playing heavies, and not all of the people are playing them because they historically like them, but rather to be "competitive" on the leaderboard).

Honestly, they need to make a customizable matchmaking system if they want light tanks to have any purpose in the game, as even the leopard gets owned with the quickness.  Make a mode which eliminates heavy tanks from the match and maybe-maybe I'll come back to the light ranks.

You guys know what sucks more than the Luchs? It's my PzIII A. I can't penetrate well. I ahve all the upgrades. All I pretty much do is go BANZAI! whenever everyone is camping when artillery are available.

only problem with Luchs is his slow turret
