Hello Clan Wars players,

The time has come for April's Clan Wars Map Exhibition, and this time we feature 3 maps - Serene Coast, Severogorsk, and Malinovka - all of which were re-worked for the 9.0 update (you can see our recent article detailing some of these changes here).

Changes since previous Exhibitions:

  • The battles on the final day will now begin at 4:30 PM instead of 4PM
  • The battles on the final day will now be played using the built-in tournament system, rather than training battles.

Register for this tournament!

Each Clan is ONLY allowed to submit ONE team.

All players on each team MUST be in the Clan represented by the tournament team.

3rd/4th: 20,000 Gold

In addition, all teams that make it to Day 2 (the top 40) will receive 1,000 Gold.

Note: All prizes are awarded to the Clan Treasury.

How the "Captain's Choice" works:

Each captain of the 4 semi-finalist teams will submit their map choices to Hypnotik via PM in a way similar to the example below:

Spoiler

  • If both teams eliminate different maps, the remaining one will be played.
  • If both teams eliminate the same map, a coin toss will determine the map played between the two remaining.

You also may have seen in the recent article that togood2222 created a series of videos about the changes in each of these maps between version 8.11 and 9.0. Here they are if you didn't get a chance to see them yet:

Severogorsk

Serene Coast

Malinovka

Is this under the assumption that 9.0 will be released at least a week before April 19th? Because it would seem rather mean to the teams if they have little to no time practicing on the reworked maps.

The 9.0 patch was released to members of the better clans last week, so it should be fine.

I wonder, how is it going to stay the release of 9.0, will occur before the event? why we have to train right.

Part of the challenge of this tournament series is the fact that these maps are new (or recently re-worked), and clans have to try multiple ideas to see what works. Maps that are brand new will have more lead-in time than re-worked maps, since you should already have a pretty solid strategic foundation to work from with re-worked maps.

That can be part of the strategy of map picking. If both teams don't like a map, and know that the other will likely vote it off, you can pick a different one to veto, and get the exact map you want. Or maybe both will get do this strategy and get stuck on that map they don't want. It's the esports equivalent to the Prisoner's Dilemma.

This is why we've had it for a while in [WGA-A]. We haven't found another clan close enough to our level yet to give it to (not even WGA-B), but you guys in OTTER always have the test server, right?

If 9.0 is not released in time for this tournament, the tournament will get pushed back by a week at a time until 9.0 is available.

Wait... I am confused... I thought Pearl river was making its new debut on patch 9.0 too. Is it not finished or is it just not included?

Now that registration is complete, here's the look ahead at the tournament:

There are 50 teams which met the entry requirements. Since 40 teams move on to round 2, that means that 10 teams will be eliminated tonight (and the other 40 will earn 1,000). Tonight's matches will be used in seeding the groups for tomorrow night, when only the top 2 in each division will make it through to the playoffs, so play your best to get the easiest road to success tomorrow night.

Tonight's matches begin at 5:00 PM PST (8:00 PM EST)

Here are your groups for Round 2. There was another tie for the last few spots in, and each of these 41 teams has earned the 1,000. The map this round will be Severogorsk. Only the top 2 teams in each group will move on to the next round, the playoffs.

Apologies to Otter last night for letting you run rampant through the group. We had to go lose to reddit's 13th subclan.

Good fights to everyone today. Hilariously fun map tbh. Props to Winchester, after yesterday we didn't really take the battle seriously, you guys pulled it off well.

Congrats to the top 8 clans, you guys are guaranteed at least 10,000. The tournament bracket has been updated at the top of this topic, and battles will be scheduled tomorrow morning. Battles begin at 5:00 PM PST, and they will be played on Malinovka.

I've heard map selections from all teams except TTIME. The map for the NTR/TMPLR battle will be Malinovka, the others will be determined either when I hear from the captains of TTIME or at 3PM PST when their time runs out.

The OTTER/TTIME battle will take place on Serene Coast.

OTTER/TTIME: 4:30 PM PST

NTR/TMPLR: 5:00 PM PST

Good luck.
