So I always found it odd the rear of the panther M10 turret was modeled as open for the area that was supposed to represent the counter weight on the M10.

http://jtrowbridge5....ised-as-M10-in/

5 sheets of metal used for the turret. 1 for the front, two for the sides and 2 for the rear. "one sheet to represent the bottom slant surface and one to represent the counter weight"

wouldn't it end up looking like this then?

Also missing the muzzle brake.

Maybe when it gets the HD treatment it will get the missing sheet of metal and the muzzle brake.

Nice work! I had gone with the assumption that the sheetmetal was left off so as not to block the rear turret hatch, but it was just a guess. It would look better with it in place tho.

Seems not.

There's a Canadian/British report on it as well confirming the rear plate was removed for examination on it. (plate 2, plate 4)

I wonder if there was any changes to the armor values after going HD such as spaced armor ect..

IIRC, per the pantherfibel, you don't want to fire the gun without the brake on.  Too much recoil for the buffers to handle.

IMO the m10 in this game should really have a special camo allowance just for this vehicle because of it's special nature that requires other tanks to get much closer to identify it as hostile or friendly tank. .

It should be able to be seen but identified as FRIENDLY until one gets much closer to it then other vehicles.

and if you don't identify it as friendly first and "shoot first and ask questions later" you be docked for a team kill of course. :)

Wouldn't it be crazy if this tank showed up as a green tank at long range & turned into a red tank as the distance closed.  That would drive most players crazy!

sure it would but it would be GREAT !   That would make this tank special like it really deserves.

Now if it FIRES on you then it instantly turns to a enemy identification of course.

I would really love to hear the team chat from this tank... !!

IMO this tank was used as a secret "scout tank" primarily as the GI clothing in them shows and maybe even needs special scout status.

Gotta admit, the Germans did a pretty good job making this look like The M10, but it was encountered at the wrong time.

They really did. Very clever indeed. Even the bogies on the panther/m-10 looked like the ones on the m-18 apparently !

From the Panther/M10's perspective, it would need to show its true colors before entering combat. This is because entering combat against enemy units while disguised as one of them is a war crime.

Somehow, I don't think they were too worried about that ...

Their main concern would have been about the higher probability of Friendly Fire, so there would have been some other signal by which to ID each other - like a secret handshake.

So if I get a M10 again somehow, I have to fly a Pirate flag on my insignia before going into battle? :)

So only players who use the "warpack" mods could use the Panther M10?

The funny thing is that of the 5 or so Panther/M10 tanks they were all easily identified and quickly disabled or destroyed.  It was a stupid idea and a waste of materials.  War crimes are a fickle thing.  Dress up one of your own tanks like the enemy and everyone throws a fit.  Steal an enemy vehicle and use it against them and they don't bat an eye.

I don't believe it was so much the tank's disguise that gave it away whatsoever as much that the German/Gi soldiers following these tanks were often in very easily identified German halftracks and even Polish and Russian equipment !  I read about the complaints Otto_Skorzeny had that in operation Greif  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Greif His fake American soldiers didn't have nearly enough captured American transport to pull it off successfully.  So much so they were considering making a fake American jeep even like the tank ! There was also a problem that there was hardly enough English speaking Germans to pull it off and the ones that did knew very few common American idioms.

Wish they would get around to doing the StuG III similar treatment as a Premium vehicle.
