Dance, we have an issue.

I am on the team A Potential Disaster. We were matched against CYA in the playoffs for the Bronze League.

We played a total of 5 games, winning 2 each and drawing 1. After that, there were no more special battles to join.

Could you kindly tell us what is going on? We did not expect that the maximum number of battles would be 5. This is not stated in any of the tournament rules or in any of the forum threads.

We won our match, made it into the bronze league. How do we register for the bronze league? Or what do we have to do to make sure we are registered? How muh time do we have to register? When does the bronze league start?

Congrats on making it to Bronze!

They will move your team into Bronze League automatically.  You can't change the roster until next week.  The first week's roster will remain the same. See this thread:

Yes. You and the other 7 teams that lost will be in open along with the other 48 teams that qualified into open already is my understanding.

First of all, great games all around.

Second of all, "first to 3" means that the first team to achieve 3 victories, wins the round. The actual case, was, it was a best of 5. The next time, you can attempt to let us know the correct round schedule beforehand, instead of [edited]over anyone who bothers to read. That would be nice.

Tie-breaker rules:

  • Winner is determined as the first to 3 victories, out of a maximum of 5 battles
  • If teams are tied, neither team moves on
  • For the Bronze League berth, there will be one round tonight
    • The tie-breaker will take place at 6:30 pm PDT
  • For the Open League Tie-breaker, there will be two rounds tonight.
    • The first round will take place at 6:30 pm PDT
    • The second round will take place at 7:50 pm PDT
    • The team with a bye the first round MUST show for the second round

Thanks, I have read that post by Dance, which appears 2 pages earlier.

The problem with the section you have quoted is that it (1) is clearly labelled "tie-breaker rules", (2) follows a list of the teams playing the tie-breakers, (3) deals specifically with details for the 2 sets of tie-breakers, and (4) makes no mention of the play-off matches at all.

Contrast that approach with what is found on the tournament page, which was careful to state that certain rules apply to both the play-offs and the tie-breakers.

Block Quote

Playoff & Tie Breaker

• The winner of each round is determined as the first to 3 victories.
• Each battle will last 10 minutes max. with a 2 minute break between battles.
• The standard battle mode will be used.

Given the obvious lack of reference to the play-offs in Dance's list of additional rules, and the care with which all the rules had been detailed on the tournament page and in the relevant forum threads, I could only infer that the play-offs were not subject to the additional tie-breaker rules. This is not an unreasonable conclusion, and I am confident that I am not alone in reaching the same.

It was definitely a little confusing. The rules quoted (including the language about ties meaning neither team moves on) were also in the special battles text, so we proceeded under that assumption just to be safe (even as we were surpirsed by it), but we weren't sure at all, and I have a hard time imagining WG would carefully set up the number of teams going into each league, only to suddenly allow fewer to make it. Seven teams going through to Bronze instead of eight, for example, would leave an odd number of teams in Bronze and mean byes all over the place.

Then again, who knows?

I saw 2 of the battles show up as overall draws and yah I was confused by what would happen there. Honestly in any WGLNA game play especially a playoff there should be something made for draws like this. Honestly it would have been easier if it would have just stated First to 3 Victories and just let the teams play until someone wins 3.  I dont know but something should be adjusted.

Correct. First to 3 does not mean you have 5 battles, and the overall winner goes on. First to 3 means you play until someone wins 3 matches. This was not just confusing, it was downright incorrect. We were told one thing, then the reality was another thing. This was a best of 5, and should have been labeled as such.

Open league (well, Open, bronze and silver) starts tomorrow, June 9th at 6:30 pm PDT!!

Matches take place on Mondays and Fridays. As a reminder, there are two rounds each night starting at 6:30 pm and 7:33 pm PDT.
