There are several big changes coming up to our Clan Wars map. If you haven't read the news article, we'd recommend doing that first, and then reading the posts below for further details, where you can see some statistics and even some of the design documents.

New Provinces

With this update, there are 50 new provinces being added to the Clan Wars map. Introduced are Mexico, which consists of 38 provinces, and 12 other countries, which consist of 1 province each. The values of the provinces range from 96-4080 Gold per day, for a total of 34896 per day.

Map Distribution

Luckily, the area that is covered by these new provinces is very diverse, and that has made a wide variety of maps easily justifiable. The 50 new provinces will be represented by 28 new maps. We'd especially like to thank members of the Council of Armored Forces for their input regarding the choices of maps to be used.

Overall Map Distribution

What Happens to the Landing Zones?

There are two provinces along the US-Mexico border which are being removed; Pecos, Texas and Coronado National Forest. While we do have the ability to utilize inland landing provinces (such as Cheyenne, Wyoming), it was decided that these provinces being landing provinces would be redundant after the new ones become available, as the time it takes to reach them would be LZ+2 days and LZ+1 day, respectively.

There was an area that did suffer along the Gulf Coast after this change, and the worst province became Little Rock, Arkansas at LZ+5 days. In order to counteract this, we have changed New Orleans, Louisiana into a landing province and redistributed part of it's income to San Antonio, Texas in order to make it more in-line with other landing provinces. This change resulted in the most accessible map we've had yet on the NA server (including our old Europe/North Africa setup).

At the bottom of this post, you can see how long it takes to reach each province in the mainland USA and the new provinces.

Design of the Map

We also decided that the layout of the map needed a few improvements from what has been visible in the past. There were 5 connection lines added to improve the accessibility of the new provinces from their original design. These can be seen in the image below represented by pink lines.

New Prime Times

The NA region has seen impressive growth within the past year, and while there has been a presence of South American clans for a long time, this area has grown significantly recently. We have also heard many others requesting earlier prime times as well, and now we have them.

Below are our current prime times:

U.S. Pacific Time

U.S. Eastern Time

Argentina/Brazil

5:00 PM

8:00 PM

9:00 PM

6:00 PM

9:00 PM

10:00 PM

7:00 PM

10:00 PM

11:00 PM

Since the first hour after prime times is for encounter battles, the battles for provinces don't start until 10:30 PM at the earliest for clans in South America (and that's 9:30 in the Eastern Time Zone). When you consider the fact that we represent 9.5 time zones (yes, Newfoundland is off by 1/2 hour), you can see why we needed to make this change to make Clan Wars easier for people to participate in.

Initially, there will be 15 provinces in the earliest prime time and 12 in the second prime time. Based on the success/usage of these prime times, we will consider their further use in the future.

Training Area

In an effort to more clearly define an area for clans to learn and gain a foundation of experience to work from, we have made a few adjustments to the gold income of some provinces. The area in the Arctic Circle region received a decrease in total gold income, while the other region, North America, received an increase. There are still a few gold pots scattered around the Arctic Circle region, but there is now less incentive for the more experienced clans to hang around and beat up on the little guy.

The Arctic Circle - This area, which includes Greenland and the northern territories of Canada, is most suited to clans which are just starting out, or are trying to develop their skills in a competitive environment. You will see an occasional medium-income province, however the gold income is typically lower than the majority of the map.

Mexico/Central America/Caribbean - This area is a sort of middle ground between The Arctic Circle and the highest level. Clans that have built up experience and cohesion should have some success here, however due to the province layout and easy accessiblity of this region, it will be more difficult to hold large swathes of land here. The gold income is an improvement from The Arctic Circle, but not the highest on the map.

Mainland USA and Southern Canada - This is where the big guys will usually be playing. Being the highest income area, it is the most attractive region for clans with a thirst for Gold, and the difficulty of success will be much higher than normal.

Rebalancing Prime Times

In addition to adding provinces and prime times, we're also doing a little bit of work on balancing a few things wihtin the prime times.

Here is our current layout of provinces:

There are several notable differences, however here are a few key ones:

  • More landing provinces in the west (currently the central) prime time
  • A more equal distribution in the total # of provinces in each prime time
  • A more equal gold distribution between prime times

Will the training areas of the Arctic Circle and Mexico/Central America/Caribbean be tier 8 or X?

this is the Sand People:

they migrated from Africa to the Arctic Circle where many of their tribesmen died due to the harsh environments, now with the exploration of the Third World the Sand People have a new and less hospitable place to call their home.

Tier X. The only time Clan Wars is not Tier X is during special events.

Block Quote

Since the first hour after prime times is for encounter battles, the battles for provinces don't start until 10:30 PM at the earliest for clans in South America (and that's 9:30 in the Eastern Time Zone). When you consider the fact that we represent 9.5 time zones (yes, Newfoundland is off by 1/2 hour), you can see why we needed to make this change to make Clan Wars easier for people to participate in.

Has there been any discussion internally about trying to shorten the time involved with a typical Clan Wars night?

It's great that you want to include more timezones, except that many clans have people from multiple timezones.  This does nothing to make it easier to appease the East, Central, and West Coast players that are found scattered throughout clans.  Yes, the Brazilian and other clans are usually in 1 to 2 zones, but many American/Canadian clans have people all across the NA zones and even people across the pond.

1. Decreasing the "down time" between battles on LZs... reduce to 20 min battle to battle to reduce the overall LZ time.

2. How about making whatever is the first battle on a province take place at 30 (+- 10 min) after PT no matter whether Encounter or something else.  Get the battles started and get them over with in a shorter period of time so no one has to invest "all night" in the clan's battles.  If you can't do that, at least once again change the "delay" between the Encounter and the other battle that takes place an hour later.

There wouldn't be as big a need to have so many zones outside what is considered "North American Prime Time" (for live sporting events that is usually 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific) if the amount of time spent in battle/wait was drastically reduced.

You have listed the gold income per province, but could we see visually (i.e. on a map) the distribution of the gold?

step in the right direction, but I don't think they made a drastic enough change to AC to make it a real "training ground" area.  Africa, had most of its land at 240 or below, with landings being even 24 gold.  You can still get a pretty good payout holding the the right provinces in the north.

Edit: Besides the gold pots in Mexico, which looks like they are pretty spread out, it appears at first glance that the rest of the provinces are about the same as AC.  So this "more defined" training ground doesn't seem more defined at all really.
