Is using consumables such as strong coffee etc.. really useful ?  I mean what you gain in experience vs. cost  per battle?

All depends on how good you do, Personally I don't use the food normally because Repair, Medi and Fire Ext. are more important.

The MOST useful is when used on vehicles with long reloads and that do not need that slot for something important like repair/first aid. Arty gets maybe the highest benefit from use with really no downside. Now is it worth it? That depends on the player.

On specific tanks, such as the waffle, I'd run Rep, Med, and Chocolate. Cause who's dumb enough to shoot at the hull of a waffle to start a fire? XD

I like using the food consumables on SPG's instead of a fire extinguisher-- the 10% improvement to reload/aim time/accuracy really helps, and besides, I can't remember the last time I used a Fire Ext. on a SPG.

I basically only use it for tourneys because like others have said, its not very useful in a regular pub.

I only use it on arty with long reload time and then only on the x2 xp or better battles. I think it gives u a slight edge. I will trade silver for xp any day. Arty don't really need fire extinguisher anyway because you die real quick once spotted.

I use food on certain tanks/TD's/SPG's.  Key point, I only purchase these items on sale.  So, food only costs me 10,000 per game (still expensive).  I normally run food when try to complete bonus games (2x, 3x, 5x).  I use food in my KV-2 (lower the reload time), Hellcat, T49, ELC AMX & my French premium arty (only arty I use).  The Hellcat & T49 often get premium fuel instead of food.  During 3x or 5x weekends, I will sometimes run the cola, 105 premium fuel, repair kit on my T49, Hellcat.  You can really tell the difference with a food, fuel setup on the Hellcat...the turret turns pretty quickly & it drops the reload to 6.6 seconds.

The only tank I use food on each game is the KV-2.  I also use a gun rammer, vents, BIA.  Everything possible to lower that crazy reload time.  The KV-2 with a 100% crew has a 24 second reload.  The rammer takes this down to 21.6.  The BIA, vents & food reduce this to 19.79.  For the KV-2 a 1.81 reduction is reload is massive.  Food alone saves you 0.905 seconds.  Just under 1 second.  That doesn't seem like much but, I'm normally firing with the KV-2 the moment it reloads so, it helps.  Also, the 10% increase for the gunner means I can wait longer to pull out & still get accurate fire.  Less exposure equals less damage.  So, for the KV-2 I consider food required equipment.  Of course, the drawback is dropping the fire ext.  Sometimes that hurts.

I'm going to reply even though much time has passed, in case this information helps others:

I'm just gonna add this because it doesn't seem to be explained anywhere else.

I was in battle with someone who commented how nice it is to have a short reload because he was running a food consumable.

I've earned a bunch, but never used one, and got curious. So I equipped my AMX 13 F3 and M40/M43 arties.

I DID experience an improvement in that shots I thought may not hit or splash did hit or splash, but my reload time hadn't improved 10%.

Here's the rundown:

NO FOOD -
                     Training (loader)              Reload
M40/M43          93+9 = 102                  41.00sec
AMX13F3        100+16=116                  26.92sec

WITH FOOD -
               Training (loader)              %Increase        Reload             %Drop
M40/M43        93+20 = 113                  10.7%          39.16sec           4.6%
AMX13F3     100+27=127                      9.4%          25.77sec           4.4%

So, a 10% increase in TRAINING/SKILL doesn't translate to 10% drop in reload time. I got similar results for things like dispersion, traverse, and the like.

I won't be using the food perks much, if at all. They cost a lot and if I can't reasonably expect to get 10K more silver (that's their cost as of 9/2018), then I have no need to use them.

If, however, you're trying to mark your tank or something, it DID provide an increase both mathematically and in my game experience.
